After more than 30 years, we finally get to know how the story continues.. So many implications, Ragnar's betrayal, a lot of possible links to other expansions.. wow, can't wait to get this new expansion... Thank you very much Amalgamash!! 🙏 and take care! I wish you all the best in this new week
Ragnar!!!! This looks like a well made expansion. Like the best of the previous ones being joined like Avengers Endgame. I hope we get a large boss figurine
Bit of a side-step, but I'd like to see miniature blocked wall plastic pieces and secret door pieces included for use generally in the game added in an expansion. Meantime, great video Ash, stay well, will look out for more from you.
Yes, indeed. In the conclusion of the UK/Europe Return of the Witch Lord quest book, it was pointed out that Sir Ragnar has betrayed us! Wonderful to see this little sentence used to good effect here in this new expansion 30 years later.
awesome video! can't wait to see what content this expansion holds! I'm still trying to get my family and friends through the core box...I have a LOT to get through, haha.
Gods me too, in fact I think HQ players fall into two camps, "I haven't finished the base game yet" and "I've completed everything plus all of Giles expacs plus eight homebrew packs and I am starved for MORE!!!"
I always thought the Sir Ragnar betrayal was wasted in the original quest book for Return of the Witch Lord - he was revealed as a traitor and executed for it in the same sentence. Especially with the Dark Company quest released later - could have been the story of us hunting him down, instead they threw in some other named traitorous knight. I do wonder if Skulmar will turn up in this or if this is a whole new type of betrayal (I think the new Return of the Witch Lord still has Skulmar escaping at the end)?
Given the definition of "cadre", I'm thinking that these are the Elven equivilant to the Guardian Knights. I still think it would be cool to see more hireable characters. On the note about Prince Magnus being upset about spending the gold. If he is turning out to be a traitor as well, maybe he's upset from realizing that he could have waited and gotten his chests back after allying with Zargon. Who knows, we'll have to wait and see I guess. Great content. Sorry to hear about your car, been there, it's not fun. Hope everything's working out for you.
I was hyper fixated on the 240 referring to quest 4, but it could also be much simpler, referring to the same gold reward in quest 2, and magnus being regretful that ragnar was rescued at all! The "fun" is still happening, but slowly getting under control. Thanks for the support. :)
They're really nailing it if they decided to make their own expansion to weave the NA/EU expansions narratives as well as old lore with new (Ogres now officially are in reboot with MoM, seems the natural next expansion). HOWEVER as far as I know they're in fact teasing one of the mythic quest books as a full expansion next after Dread Moon... Having never played that I've no idea where it fits in but I'm gonna consider full expansion retail release means it will become canon to the HQ lore. Maybe Avalon have big plans to marry all these still looming expansions (2 EU classics and 2 other mythic tier quest books) and perhaps even the other mythic tier heroes as this clearly signifies the character expansions are canon not just flavour releases (Guardian Knight is here, you referenced Rouge tie here as well) so maybe we will see Bard etc return as alternate sculpt character expansions (unless theyre planned to come with mythic expansions). Then there is the never released Wizard and Dwarf expansions. Much to ponder and be excited about.
If anything, a relatively fast undead since most of the undead are quite slow. As for the 240 gold coin quest hint, I wonder if Sir Ragnor ended up stealing those three chests during his betrayal.
Thanks for this video. SPOILER below : About Sir Ragnar, it's only in the conclusion of the UK Return of the Witch lord quest book. For exemple in the French quest book, It only says that Skulmar escaped, nothing about Ragnar. In the UK, he helps Skullmar to escape, but Ragnar has been captured and executed, after.
I wish they would rework the game to make it more modern. Every charakter should have some skills to make the game more tactical and interesting. Darkest dungeon could be an inspiration.
Was thinking about why those elven knights are against the heroes. In the picture the heroes seem to storm out of a temple or something, palace maybe. So i think they could have been framed for a fell deed, ragnar did to the elven queen. That would explain the scores of fighter in the background. Or.. the traitors attack the elven court openly after sinestras plot was foiled, and the heroes race to chop the head of this serpent once and for all. The question should probably be: from when during the campaign are the events on the cover art from?
I think your assumption about the 240g is wrong. Read the introduction to q2 again. Prince Magnus offers 240g for the rescue of Sir Ragnar. The message implies that Sir Ragnar should never have been rescued. That would make Magnus the good guy. At least that is my working theorie 😂😂
240 gold coins was also the reward for retrieving his own gold, which is as fixated on - but hah, it's probably only as simple as you've pointed out after all. Having missed that detail, I've really overthought it. Guess I should have taken another week before talking about this LOL
Quest 2 When you rescue Sir ragnar, you are rewarded 240 gold, which is literally what he is referencing . Great vid still amazed you missed that one and jumped to quest 4 🤷♂️
That had everything to do with Prince Magnus being the leading (first) clue lol. But I realized it pretty quickly after the upload. There's some extra discussion in the comments!
I’ll buy this one, but what about the Dwarf, and the Wizards’ solo adventure? I missed the Knight Protector, there’s no way I’m paying $300.00 on E-Bay for it.
If the Prince wished he had not paid 240g to heroes. Then the heroes must be betraying the Prince. Or no longer alined. It could be, "I wish I never had employed the heroes.", or that caravan raid was a cover to buy off Gulthor or the Dread Knights without the Princes' knowledge. This could have been the king's order. Could be Ragnar's. It could be Magnus is working for Zargon J. Morcar (the J stands for Jay) to take his father's thrown and did not know Ragnar is also playing both sides. So he caused more damage by hiring heroes to retrieve it. Perhaps he's been kicked from the kingdom? Or didn't get some figgy pudding because of it. (Another commenter, Stefan Rueckstiess, pointed out that the heroes also got 240 for saving Ragnar. That's a simpler answer.) The Elven kingdom is in upheaval because they sent Elf warriors to help the king. The base and Mythic Tier Elf sculpts and card art (M and F) have a dark purple (black?) feather decor and capes. There is also an image on the loincloth that I thought was a dragon. But it could be a profile of a bird flying. Admittedly, it looks more like an owl than a raven. If the Ravens are good, they must have supported the Elf crown to send a warrior to Magnus. If the Ravens are bad, then they sent an agent to infiltrate. And the solo Elf is either that same champion, or a new champion. Solo Elf doesn't have any bird iconography on it. He has stars (not Triforces). So is this new Elf champion from a different faction? His he a patsy? Sinsestra has wolf iconography ( her hair is very bird feather like which ties her to the royal family and the Ravens). But a wolf clan, that's a third group. The Elf mercenaries have no distinct symbols. The Archer has a crest, but it's covered in the sculpt and artwork. They could be a fourth group. Or it could be that same symbol on the default and MT elves' loincloths. The Rogue is royalty that left the kingdom and is summoned back. Showing possible family strife. And has bird symbology on the sculpt. The gold lining makes a bird on their white shirt. Is this a white raven? A different bird faction? Or is the color irrelevant? The box art. We have a Ka-ni-gant front and center. The 'beefy armor guy' on the left background _could_ be the alt gender sculpt. They have a helm with the red feathery thing like the knight. The monster on the bottom right also has that red thingy, but that could just be an orc's mohawk. The heroes could be running out to fight Ragnar's invading horde of dread and Raven elves. Figures clear in the background could be their support army of guardian knights and... others. Or maybe the heroes are surrounded as everyone thinks. The ghost shapes could be turning back to attack the heroes. Or they could be fighting along with them. This is called Rise of the Dread Moon. Moon and wolves go hand in hand. What if Sinsestra has taken over the heroes, or, convinced them the Ravens are plotting with Ragnar to overthrow the king. Leaving Prince Magnus the new, easily manipulated king? Maybe that's why she stole the princess? To protect her from the Dread Chaos influenced Ravens. After all, isn't it the common staple in current story telling of "Wait, we're the bad guys?" And if the heroes are now taking out traitors to the Crown, the Prince would be upset he put them on retainer, oh so long ago. And what if you read this whole thing and went, "Huh, I bet this guy is currently painting his minis and that's the only reason he's noticed those bird details." Because that, I guarantee, is the only true thing that I can back up in this whole rant.
Replace "bird details" with "loin cloth details" and you've basically read my mind 🤣 Wonderfully worded, great to read. Thanks so much for sharing. And for diving deep with me into quest 4 instead of the very much more obvious and simpler quest 2. Looking forward to this one for sure - it looks to have potential of breaking new ground, free of the chains of tradition.
Sir Ragnar betrays Prince Magnus and the Empire? That is quite a bold accusation you make.... scandalous if you will. For your own sake, I'd watch your tongue. Such talk is traitorous.
It's good to have your opinion on it all, even if it's a little later, already had seen everyone else's views but having the time between gave us time to think aswell. I'm currently in a not thinking mu h about heroquest phase as literally only a few weeks ago finished getting my core warhammer quest ready and not had time to think of any other games very much since
After more than 30 years, we finally get to know how the story continues.. So many implications, Ragnar's betrayal, a lot of possible links to other expansions.. wow, can't wait to get this new expansion... Thank you very much Amalgamash!! 🙏 and take care! I wish you all the best in this new week
I was just rebooting my career as Zargon and homebrewing a questpack in which Ragnar betrays the emperor...I guess I should rework that quest hook :-)
Ragnar!!!! This looks like a well made expansion. Like the best of the previous ones being joined like Avengers Endgame. I hope we get a large boss figurine

What Fun...the mystery continues....Can't wait!

Heroquest really is art to me
Outdoor tiles or overlays??? Looks like they may be outside in front of a fortress. Great video!!!

Ash nailed it on the elven warriors predictions
Excited for this expansion! Glad you’re feeling better

First, 😮😮😮😱
Second, hope the QuestJam is still going well 👌
but Sir Manfred would never betray us... Schrödinger's Knight!
Sinestra's daemonic ghost is possessing Sir Ragnar?? who knows!
That ghost on the left has the spirit queen crown from the spirit queen tournament
Maybe this is a sequel or prequel

in the EU edition, heroes CAN keep the gold in the chests... becoming outlaws themselves in the process (and can never become champions)
If anything, a relatively fast undead since most of the undead are quite slow. As for the 240 gold coin quest hint, I wonder if Sir Ragnor ended up stealing those three chests during his betrayal.
That’s what I was thinking, maybe he was supposed to take them after the hero’s returned them and runs off with the gold.
Thanks for this video.

I already paid for my preorder

Won't have to! Knight in the box! Here's hoping for the wizard and dwarf in the future though!
Maybe Ragnar is fighting his own son/daughter in the knight costume, but he doesn't know. That would be mind blowing!
DUDE!
I want it to be that Ragnar was behind the sacking of grunburg or whatever AH calls it now and officially tie it in to battle masters
Haha! Nice one!
That would be awesome
Hope it comes in german to europe

@@AmalgamAsh Agreed. More game, and callbacks to build lore, what's not to love?
Oh so basically it's called rise of the chaos Moon LOL

Nothing wrong with switching gears. Keeps things fresh. Warhammer demands that kind of focus too, I imagine!
