I think you do an excellent job of filming, understanding, asking good questions, and editing this all together as an informative story. As an avid watcher of every one of your videos, I come back for you more than any of your stars.
I love when you get to know people really well to the extent that you can predict what they will be thinking as a result of something that's happened or been said. It takes years but I'm at the stage with some of my friends and family members where I can impress them by telling them what they are thinking :)
I'm really liking the new channel. I briefly considered taking a psychology major a while back, and I still find the topic extremely interesting. Hopefully this channel gets up there with your others, I'd very much like to see more!
I'm so glad youtube evolved to have this much quality content when it comes to education. I could always do with more obviously, but it's nice to have video's like these.
I knew it was just a matter of time before Brady started roaming the hallways, looking for footage and more vict...subjects to interview. Good job dude! Keep it up.
Please Brady, work on that volume levelling. I love your videos, but they are often very quiet and then BOOM RUclips hits me with a blasting ad. Do it for our ears! :)
Economics is actually a science, since you are using the scientific process. Ask a company like Intech, which invests based entirely on mathematical algorithms. You can change variables (by investing, shorting, etc), you have a control group (any economic base which you are not involved in) etc. Most successful economists are actually mathematicians, computer programmers, statisticians, etc., so the overlap is pretty prevalent.
Glad you did this so early. I'm just a Psychology major in my third year, and it's become the most bothersome question I've had to pretend to answer frequently. In most people who ask it, you can see the insecurity or fear of what they are really thinking, which makes me all the more turned off to the actual person. -.-
I find it very strange watching people I interact with on a daily basis on one of Brady's youtube channels. Makes me proud to be a psychology student at manchester :)
It's not a barrage at all. Very valid questions. I'm not sure I follow what you mean by deeper meaning, but yes we have to define what makes science a "science". I would think that math and economics are types of science. I'm not saying human behavior is independent of the chemicals in our brains. However, I believe that is exactly what Psychology aims to study; our brain chemistry, how our brain affects our body and how our environment affects both. These are measurable things.
Love your vids, Brady! But do people really ask a psychologist, "Do you know what I'm thinking?" I'm curious, not trolling. Such an odd question to a person that's trained/taught to be perceptive beyond normal, so to speak. I've never asked my psychologist this - but instead asked, "What do you think about what I've said, can you offer an unobjective perspective?" LOVE psychology! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
If someone asks "Can you tell what I'm thinking about right now?", the response is easy. You are thinking about whether or not I know what you are thinking about.
Question Brady, Are you trying to break some kind of record? Most channels or most subjects or something :þ but seriously I really enjoy your channels, keep up the good work.
How would you define "What I'm thinking"? Yes, there are times (especially when talking or writing) when there are well defined words, but most of the time it's a jumble of emotions and complex images that are too abstract to really be defined.
Well, I can't tell who she is by the hair. Funny question though, I've never thought to ask one if they did. Interesting subject however, one that has always interested me. Look forward to more, so thanks for broadening things up Brady. Good Job!
I vote for computer science. Sure some of it falls under Numberphile, but algorithms and such would be interesting topics, even some basics of computational complexity. Cellular automata, Turing machines being universal, how search engines work so fast, lots of good topics there.
It would never ever occur to me to ask "Do you know what I'm thinking?". If I was going to ask a pointlessly impossible question it would be "So how does consciousness happen?"
It is a "Cargo Cult Science" or is it? By the way I am referring to a chapter of Feynman's "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" book. It would be nice to ask them for their opinion on the matter.
It could be. There's a lot of people who think that 'empathy' is some kind of supernatural ESP. I had someone scoff at me for even mentioning it as part of an explanation for why yawning is contagious. There is a prevailing ignorance about psychology that is mixed up with pop culture mythology. It probably doesn't help that people like Darren Brown (despite being a skeptic himself) give people the impression that psychology is capable of apparently magical feats.
To all psychologists: If you have no idea what im thinking, please, do not act like you have this knowledge. You cannot analyze me if you do not know my thought processes. You observe the outside, and the outside often does not reflect the inside.
Hey Brady :) ! I don't know if you want suggestions on this channel or if you have something planned out but I was wondering if you'd be interested in making a video about lucid dreaming :) In any case your doing a fantastic job with all these channels thanks a lot :) !
Quoting the description, "This video features in order of appearance: Deborah Talmi, Penny Lewis, Luke Jones, Warren Mansell, Ellen Poliakoff and Daniela Montaldi."
“I know what you're thinking. I know what everyone's thinking. They're thinking, 'I want to be face down on a cushion, with a mouth full of chocolate, and something lovely happening to my lower half'” ~Dylan Moran
Of course it's a science. There is still a scientific method involved in Psychology; the only difference is that the conclusions reached aren't 100% accurate. You can't quantify human experience into an equation like you can with other sciences. The results are statistical probabilities. It has to be one of the more difficult sciences too. In Chemistry when you add specific things together you'll get the same chemical every time - Psychology is Chemistry + human behavior.
Saying psychology is not a science may not be entirely accurate, we do know of psychological phenomenon like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder. There are case studies which show definitively people with a crippling disability that affirm that there is an illness. No one really disputes that. Psychology is a science, in my opinion. In that they try different methods and see what works. The problem is they have bad metrics, nothing is reliable to determine if a patient is successful.
Psychoanalytically - *shifts up glasses* - the very phrasing of the question suggests that the inquirer was quite confident that the picture was in fact of a winged rabbit - a confidence that contradicts that obvious ambiguity of the picture, thus proving that the inquirer meant it sarcastically. On a side note, I wonder what most psychologists (esp. people who strongly identify with the field of "cognitive neuroscience") feel about the validity of Freudian psych. :P
Anyone else that came here specifically for Ellen's hair and slightly disappointed at the normalcy of it?
I think you do an excellent job of filming, understanding, asking good questions, and editing this all together as an informative story. As an avid watcher of every one of your videos, I come back for you more than any of your stars.
Thank you Brady! Your channels are great and they make a significant part of my education.
I love when you get to know people really well to the extent that you can predict what they will be thinking as a result of something that's happened or been said.
It takes years but I'm at the stage with some of my friends and family members where I can impress them by telling them what they are thinking :)
I'm a psychology student so I get this question a lot. It is very interesting to see these answers. Thank you for making this video!!
im glad if found a channel like this because i want to go into physiological profiling and i feel like it will help in the long run. thanks guys
Awesome topic, excellent handling, per usual. Love your work.
I'm really liking the new channel. I briefly considered taking a psychology major a while back, and I still find the topic extremely interesting.

Great uploads, please keep doing more of these. Psychology is a very interesting field!
I knew it was just a matter of time before Brady started roaming the hallways, looking for footage and more vict...subjects to interview. Good job dude! Keep it up.
Yay a new channel from Brady Haran!
Please Brady, work on that volume levelling. I love your videos, but they are often very quiet and then BOOM RUclips hits me with a blasting ad. Do it for our ears! :)
When ever someone asks ME if I can read their minds, I say:
"Well of course… cant you?"
Did you promote this channel? It's (like all your other channels) great!
Thanks!
did anyone notice how perfect the older lady's teeth were?
Oh, cool. Lie to Me was referenced!
Lie to Me is one of my all-time favorite shows - it needs to be brought back.

I have that, and I've only watched it once, so you're probably right as well.
Great video. Hey Brady, just in case you were unsure, I definitely am interested in this channel and really look forward to more PsyFile videos.
I find it very strange watching people I interact with on a daily basis on one of Brady's youtube channels. Makes me proud to be a psychology student at manchester :)
I would like to know more about the block diagram on the board behind Dr. Mansell. I thought block diagrams were mainly used for dynamic systems.
God yes. I'm so excited for these videos.
It's not a barrage at all. Very valid questions.

I love this channel Brady.
@ksr112 thank you. I was surprised because I remember Martin saying that his wife was a physicist.
Love your vids, Brady! But do people really ask a psychologist, "Do you know what I'm thinking?"

The woman with the blue pullover and brown hair is either French or French-Canadian. She has a slight accent :3

Do a video about consciousness
Awesome! There's a tardis on the book shelf at 3:30!
Did you notice that there is a spelling mistake in the logo screen at the end?
Well, I can't tell who she is by the hair. Funny question though, I've never thought to ask one if they did. Interesting subject however, one that has always interested me. Look forward to more, so thanks for broadening things up Brady. Good Job!
My prepared response: "No, and neither do you".
So are we up to 10-12 channels by now? How can you guys keep it all coming XD it is crazy!
I vote for computer science. Sure some of it falls under Numberphile, but algorithms and such would be interesting topics, even some basics of computational complexity. Cellular automata, Turing machines being universal, how search engines work so fast, lots of good topics there.
make a video about right and left handers pls.
I believe there is a way to read people's thoughts.
No worries. Most often I don't know what I'm thinking.
Doctor Who Time Machine ? 0:28
Next time you get asked that, you should say "You're thinking you want me to tell you what you're thinking."
two psychologist walk into a group therapy secession, the first one says "i know that, you know that, i know that, you know that........etc"
The order of apearance is listed in the discription so, the woman at 0:16 could be Ellen Poliakoff maybe? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Come out with a new video already!!!
Read the description before asking questions, she's at 0:20
It would never ever occur to me to ask "Do you know what I'm thinking?". If I was going to ask a pointlessly impossible question it would be "So how does consciousness happen?"
this situation happens a lot here in my country, when i say i study Psychologie , they ask do you know what I'm thinking right now?
It is a "Cargo Cult Science" or is it? By the way I am referring to a chapter of Feynman's "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" book. It would be nice to ask them for their opinion on the matter.
Yes it is his daughter I think, I came from another video where Brady mentioned that this channel featured her
I got a psy-kick out of that! Glad to have found the new channel and looking forward to more. ;¬)
You know what I was thinking while watching this? The slogan: "Are you thinking what we're thinking?" :P
Very interesting, thank you.
Subscribed for now.

odd, this video wont play with HTML5 mode on just get a black box - had to turn HTML5 mode off to watch
Lie to Me is an awesome show.
Would love to see a BioFile channel next!
0:20 She is Dr Ellen Poliakoff
Hey Brady :) ! I don't know if you want suggestions on this channel or if you have something planned out but I was wondering if you'd be interested in making a video about lucid dreaming :) In any case your doing a fantastic job with all these channels thanks a lot :) !
Same, and sucks that I have to do a project on it for Psych class :(
Here's a good question you could do a video on,
Are thoughts part of your body?
If I'm asked this question, I say that they are trying to predict what I am going to say.
Quoting the description, "This video features in order of appearance: Deborah Talmi, Penny Lewis, Luke Jones, Warren Mansell, Ellen Poliakoff and Daniela Montaldi."
Hey, do you know why Rorschach tests frighten me? It definitely has to do with the uncanny valley and fear of the unknown, but I don't know exactly.
“I know what you're thinking. I know what everyone's thinking. They're thinking, 'I want to be face down on a cushion, with a mouth full of chocolate, and something lovely happening to my lower half'”
~Dylan Moran
I like your channels Brady!!!
It's Ellen Poliakoff 0:20
What about music or a fine art? That would be nice, I think.
My guess is that she is the 2nd woman speaking (at apprx 0:06)
Every time i get, to go to the psychologist, i will ask him: "Do you know what i'm thinking?"
Next question to the staff: as a psychologist, what question or questions do you most often ask your patients and why?
oh yes you're absolutely right ! Thanks !
DANG it, That used to be my response, now I'm not the only one.

Asking a psychologist 'do you know what I'm thinking?' is a bit like asking an economist, 'do you know what I bought this afternoon?'
Question to Brady: Why did you pick the Rorschach blob of a blooming tulip as the logo for this channel?
I know what your thinking. Your thinking, "I wonder how you will respond to the question, do you know what I am thinking."
Just say "Yes," in a disappointed tone, and shake your head in disdain/disgust.
which one is Martin's daughter ?
The correct question on a first encounter of a psychologist in the wild is: Do you know what you're thinking?
If you can, Could you ask them how Derren Brown does it?
Their proper response should be: "I'm a psychiatrists... not a psychic"
You mean the mirrored image of a crocodile walking out from behind a bush?
something they touched on in the video - can you do a video about how magicians use psychology to perform "magic" tricks?
no its random, i don't have that. also its partially due to personal preferences over the course of your youtube life.
it'd be nice if we could all enjoy our jobs this much
I expected poofy hair, but got lured into watching intelligent discussion!
Is Ellen the daughter of Professor Poliakoff from Periodic videos?
who's professor's daughter?
Please do a video on why people hate certain noises, like chalk on a chalk board! LIKE so they can see this!!
i think the one at 1:00 she has the coolest hair

she is the lady at 0:17
i guess derren brown used the technique said at 2:28
Manchester?
