Two towers, one hole.
They already have a crew working on the new one - 0:25
@@carlsaganlives4036that’s only one tower. 😂
So many jokes can come of this
Nice. Nasty, but nice.
Whats gonna happen ? 😅
Chicago Spire design kinda reminds me of Lakhta Centre in Saint Petersburg, the tallest building in Europe now -- completed 5 years ago and still not filled with tenants and clerks.
Hmmm, I guess the grift & kick-back amounts were finally met.
GREAT ! In such a lovely HOLE of a city
😂😂😂💩⭕
Yes! More apartments most of us will not be able to afford!
Could be worse Could New York City where they are trying to force a rent cap and "good reason evictions even after the lease is up" forcing landlords to jack up rents now literally trapping people into slum apartments as the taxes on landlords and banks keep going up the city just started unknowingly kicking out the population.
Work smarter then you will be able to afford it.
Work smarter and try harder. Good luck!
They dodged a bullet with the decline of commercial real estate.
All that bullshit luxury invesments will go south in a few years.
the hole is there, two towers one hole, the foundation is easy to make. Once its drained. yeah it could work.
@@carlosrivas1629 Chicago has lost population for almost a decade so no.
How will decline in business create demand for expensive apartments?
@@MilwaukeeF40C Not many live in these kinds of places. They are invesment pieces. Sometimes the engineering in the aparment themselves isn't good at all.
I can almost guarantee you that these other towers will NOT be built. Mark my words.
but not before millions are spent on "studies" enriching a few politicians and cronies in the family construction business.
imagine recession hitting this project too. cursed land lol
More like - neither will ever be built and this 'news' piece was a signal that 2008 is about to happen again rn.......
haha... all talk and next thing you know it, there will be 2 giant holes instead of one.
It is a bullshit luxury invesment piece, like we need it?
Nobody will ever live there and the assets will go south in next drop in assets... The Zombie apocolipse is apon us.
@@urrywest Yea Chicago has had a decade of continuous population decline.
Goodbye pit, hello lot!
‘If the economy stays correct?’
So depressing, the Sears Tower is not even one of the top 10 tallest skyscrapers anymore, and Chicago won't build a building taller than the Sears😢
😂😂😂
@@californiamade5608 we need to be more like you guys with homeless tents in garbage all on the streets LOL stay jealous
For what it's worth the Sears Tower is still the second tallest building in the country by highest point !!
No one wants to live in chicago
What if you measure it from the bottom of the hole?
Sooooo disappointed the Spire wasn’t built 😤
They put in Dubai. Chicago architects 🤙
@@jimoconnor6382 🤣 Chicago couldn’t do it
😂Chicago is a crime city
Why would they even invest into a dying city?
I grantee those 2 towers most citizen won’t be able to go inside.
But only Gov employees
that thing was so ugly
@@californiamade5608Commifornian🤡🤡🤡
Dude said people walking by it, lol. No one walks down there, and anyone on the bridge can plainly see it, lol
I walk by it almost everyday walking my dog. Don't see many other people there besides people who live next to it .
wonder what they find at the bottom when they drain it
Bodies no doubt.
@@nathanbradleyf777they’ve already drained it. No bodies were found
Two towers huh? That always works out
I absolutely love that they did this segment and with such passion and gave it a good amount of time for us architecture lovers and Chicago lovers
The spire looked like a huge joint for Willy Nelson to smoke
I love that Lee Bey thinks that the economy is correct and hopes it stays that way. 😅😅😅
When are they going to start construction on the Tribune East Tower skyscraper? It's been approved for quite some time, but no construction yet to begin??
Not happening
@@Chosen1Crown I hope it does, they built the st Regis
@@Chosen1CrownIt wasn’t cancelled tho there is still hope it’s just delayed ig
The real question is how much is this going to cost the taxpayers, we know the hole cost us at least $93 million not including grift.
The broke ass taxpayers running to Michigan every weekend 😂
What’s grift?
@@CharlesBrewer-k8u grift is what they skim off the top for themselves and friends.
@@CharlesBrewer-k8ugrift is graft and vice-versa.
It’s just an office building😂😂
In a crime city😂
These news outlets are stupid talking about building
Most citizens won’t be able to go inside😂
Chicago is a failed city
That Spire looked great. Thats very disappointing that they didnt proceed with it now.
Sweet hole bro!
OKC building taller than Chicago soon anyways 🥱
Some dude from Chicago must have smashed a girl you like, because they hate you have for Chicago is really weird
What's the tallest building in the homeless capital of San Francisco LOL
I don’t think it’s ever gonna be Bill no sane investors going to throw their money away. I had a project that’s not gonna bring a good ROI.
@@KeepTheKeishasAway Salesforce Tower which would be 6th tallest in all of Chicago and its 140 skyscrapers 🙌🏼👏🏼 I wouldn’t talk so much with your migrant issues rising 😂

Fill the hole with money . Tax payer MONEY .
Two more boring glass boxes.
Leslie Knope is gonna build a park on top
its so annoying to keep hearing "dusable" lake shore drive. Just stop already. it's has and always has been LAKE SHORE DRIVE
Chicago needs to build a building taller than the Sears tower, New York is kicking our you know what with super talls
I think Chicago needs cheap stuff than expensive stuff
And next will be Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City is planning the next tallest building in the country
Oklahoma is very dumb to build something so tall when it has tornadoes all the damn time smh so many deaths I can see the news reports now
@@nathanwilliams6359is this representative of the year they were founded feet, Oklahoma City will never be a comparable metropolis like Chicago or New York
they're going to fill that hole with 2 big ones
How deep is the hole?
They stopped digging because they had he plans upside down.
Beautiful design.
Interesting design for a glass tower would be coll to see it glitsening in the sun with its upper slope.
Two gigantic holes will be excavated instead of one.
Well, the expense of replacing the batteries...
Chicago has greater needs than a new tower.
The teachers union “needs” $50 BILLION DOLLARS!! 🤯
Ooh luxury rentals! We need more of those.
Kinda dumb they can build the tallest building in America in some rundown city instead of Chicago
All cities are run down.
ANYONE KNOW IF THE NEW TOWER(s) WILL BE CONCRETE OR STEEL?
great, now there's going to be 2 holes 😂
Twin towers of Chicago
this is funny and wrong on so many levels i think you know what i mean smile giggle
I was in Chicago five years earlier
Where's sears Tower and former name Hancock building going to be I don't want those torn down they still strong mighty king buildings
The plan is to move them to Arlington Heights.
It's all about money
You would think after 9/11, we would stop building 2,000 ft buildings. I guess history has taught us nothing.
So you want us to stop building Skyscrapers because a bunch of lunatics hijacked planes & rammed into them once?
Or at least build them down below ground and not up.
I prefer the spire better
Who cares? Next.
Satire: My body count guess for the hole is four found when they drain it.
They are a thousand feet tall
No they aren’t
Yes we do
Nope. The replacement towers are scaled down even from their OH height of like 1100 and 800'... Now they are like 800 and 600... BOO!
All the money went to migrants 😂
Wow chicago is catching up with newyork whenit comes to skyscrapers. What i like in chicago is that cannal oh well we bought wish bought cities progress and prosper more together with its community
no
This will be similar in design to the Steinway tower on 57th street in New York, by Shop Architects. This appears to be a practical handsome solution for the site, both of these towers could offer a striking, sophisticated look for the skyline of Chicago.
Who’s the guy they’re interviewing? He doesn’t seem to know anything about the subject. DEI?
Well, it obviously won't be as exciting as if the Chicago Spire got built but those planned new towers and a nice park are still just as good in getting that location to be in good use.
Suuuure they will lol
We'll be watching a video in 15 years about two abandoned tower bases in Chicago... lol
Right before another economic collapse. 😂
Chicago dodged a bullet with that one. Calatrava designed another "swirling tower" in Malmoe (southern Sweden) "Turning Torso", that went over budget by so much it aint even funny (cost 900 dollars per square foot BACK in 2004) Even with todays apartmentprices (more than double in Malmoe compared to 2004) they couldn´t turn a profit...
Cool buildings - nice looking
Thank GOD the Chicago Spire never made it above ground level! The original design was quite nice (Fordham Spire!) but it evolved into a phallic Santiago Calatrava vanity project. The design was giving total “pick me” energy and did nothing to complement its surroundings. The new towers are classy and create a gateway to the city. SOM has given Chicago many great skyscrapers and I anticipate they will pull them off tastefully.
Sure. 2 similar towers beside each other, full of people in a huge city…. What could go wrong 🤷🏻♀️
The Spire design wouldn't have fit the city, it looks kinda goofy now. Bullet dodged with it being nixed.
Now those are much more attractive than most skyscrapers, which are just ugly square boxes. Although the proposed tower was also quite attractive. The site presently looks like a manmade sinkhole.
One ugly tower to be replaced by 2 ugly towers. Modern skyscrapers are the most boring style of architecture ever.
Lee Bey does not really have much of a architecture background at all...
The groundbreaking event is so corny lol “hey guys let’s put on hard hats and pretend we’re actually useful in society!”
Glad they scrapped that first design.
Only a fool would think those towers will be built.
good luck with that crazy incompetant mayor over there lol
Each condo apartment will be a mere 12 million dollars a year.
" America's new " Affordable housing "
Waste of money! Commercial real estate is collapsing!
It will be entertaining to watch in 10 years or thereabout, how one or both of the towers have started to lean at an alarming rate. Provided of course, they actually get built, not having fallen victim to the same dynamics that nixed the spire.
With so many moving out of violent Chicago because of all,the crime , who is really going to move there ? 🤭
detroit wants it make it happen Santiago Calavatra
Another waste of money and pointless project.
Shouldn't you guys focus on your crime rate first?
This is not an era for construction, this is an era for managing decline.
the insurance for tall building went up because of 9/11 and every one was worried that big building would be a bigger target and thats what cause the halt of that building
The meme potential speaking about this hole...
Right on the waterfront? Your asking for disaster.
Brilliant coffer dam. Filled with water.
>can not build one tower
>tries to build two at the same time
>its all money laundering
Cool. More housing for the rich, just what we need.
Who in their right mind would want to move to Chicago?
We couldn't build one tower, so lets build two...
They better take care of the gun violence first
That’s depressing, the fact this this would have been way bigger than the largest building on earth.
Chicago is gross
