I met her at her tour after she won idol. In the back stage VIP line I waited to get her autograph. Security strictly told me one autograph each (Clay Aiken was with her). When I approached her I timidly said “can I get one more for my mom?” At that point I was scared of her response or the security’s reaction. But she was so gracious and lovely. She burst out “of course!!! As many as you want, I’m here because of you and your mom!” She is a really true and beautiful soul. God bless her.

I like Kelly's philosophy. I loved my aunt, I think she loved me but she was very complex. She always fed my kids and I carne as ada Spanish rice and Coca-Cola in the 70's. She was very generous with food and gifts 🎁. She liked to bring up unpleasant history and beat a dead horse 🐎. I got angry one time. She admitted, she was just trying to get my goat ! I distanced myself. I loved her from afar and I miss her. My cousin told me to stay away from people like that. They like to bring you down. RIP 🙏

She is the first celebrity that I can genuinely and completely relate to. I had a similar upbringing with scattered family members who had their own vices or reasons for not having relationships with whoever. I didn’t realize how damaging and relevant it was until I was an adult. But hearing Kelly speak like this about her experiences with toxic family and broken homes or relationships puts it in a positive tone for me. It really puts it in a different light and it’s nice to see it hasn’t made her into a woe-is-me, clout-seeking celebrity. It made her skin thick and her mind stronger. The way I wish I could adapt the same mentality and apply it in my own life so I could be less bitter. Kelly is truly a diamond in the rough.

Kelly is such a genuine, forthcoming woman and a huge talent! Love her!
As she spoke about her father, she described my mother to a T, however I made a different choice. My mom grew up in extremely abusive circumstances and was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder many years ago. She was never the kind of mother I needed her to be and I always say I raised myself. She now resides in a nursing home, wheelchair bound and suffering with a multitude of chronic illnesses. I have overseen the quality of her care for the past 12 years and will ensure that she is as well cared for as possible. I have compassion for her but I also have learned to set healthy boundaries for myself. I also ended the long cycle of dysfunction that runs thr' my family tree and raised my two children to always know how much they are loved and wanted. I couldn't have asked for better children!!!
I think each and every person has to decide what is best for them as no two circumstances or people are the same even if the similarities are strikingly familiar.

@@justin01144 Thank you, for the kind, supportive comment. Life's a learning experience, isn't it. We must support a society that creates vocational opportunities and affordable schooling for young people, so they become prepared for their future. I "missed the boat". At age 56 and a life long asthmatic, I've become dependent on my 20 days of vacation and the FMLA for asthma (btw, only large companies provide FMLA and it takes a year to qualify). So, like many "working poor", I don't have the skills or capital to "make a change". It's ok, though; I'm one of many and it could be worse. In the meantime, I try to make healthy choices and I hope, Biden's Infrastructure Plan offers educational and vocational opportunities for job seekers of all ages. It's true: "a country is only as strong as it's middle class". We need to vote for public servants who care about that. Thanks and take care.

I feel Kelly here so much. She does miss knowing her father and what could have been. It's the could have been factor that gets so many of us. After years of my dad bouncing in and out of my life I cut him off completely in 2018 when I was fighting two primary cancers squamous cell carcinoma that spread to my bones (terminal) and endometrial cancer. I couldn't take another time of him not showing up for me that I just told him to love me from his own world and to not worry about trying to love me in my world. It definitely stings a little since I was close to my dad until I was in my early 30's and that's when he left my mom and started his second family. Now that wife died and he's on to his third and when I found out he married her in between my birthday and my brother's birthday that was pretty much it for me. My brother's birthday is Jan 13 and I'm Jan 18th and for me it was like my dad picked that date to split up my brother and myself and I didn't take kindly to that at all. I was already pretty sick and I just told him to stay away from me. The stress was too much and so was the lack of being a dad and being there for us when we really needed him. Hope he's happy and I don't have any ill feelings towards him. I wish him happiness.

Not very witty, are ya, Eric Ryan? That was the most lame internet insult I have ever read. I expected more coming from a clogged douche nozzle with 2 first names.

Thank you for being transparent and sharing a bit of your personal life. You continue to grow and not conform to the BS from the cruel hateful peeps. You. Are precious and inspirational dear Kelly. Never stop dreaming no matter what age, race or religion you associate with. That’s my philosophy. It’s about attitude and gratitude on this journey of life. Challenging circumstances are learning experiences. Bless y’all and thanks for sharing. I have learned it is ok to say no and be picky. Hugs

This is my experience at its core with both of my parents.. she’s a grown woman now who instead of letting her past define who she’d become she is making sure it defines who she WILL NOT BECOME. I can completely relate to her statement of finding gratitude in living a not picture perfect upbringing so as to take away the lesson it can serve you. This takes deep soul searching if you’ve ever had to and it comes in waves.. your entire life. You can’t miss what you never had, but you can and will miss what you know should’ve been and what you deserved. Taking the lesson it subconsciously is sending is up to dedicating yourself to you. This is not easy.. she’s using her platform of fame for compassion and strength. People think overall famous and successful people were born pampered. As we see that’s not always the case. It’s a way of showing those of us that we all can survive we can use our story to inspire survival. It humanizes sadness and loss. Her attitude and openness intimidates those who still are afraid to dig deep to heal from pain and those who are very superficial. She is an example of true strength. Not to say those who are afraid are weak.. it’s a scary process. Kathys loathing glances are either from a place of her own fear to heal or plain arrogance. If it’s the latter it’s only these types that are the weak as they know they could never have this courage.. keep talking Kelly.. heal everyday!! Thank you for your gift of opening your soul to encourage those still gripped in the negative influence of a painful road traveled.. pray they hear you and any of us who know it’s not our fault but have seen the light to make us give ourselves what we deserve!! Love to you and all looking for that hope to find it!❤️

This what I needed to hear today Kelly! Tears were streaming down my face. It is so hard when some in your life has toxic venom your way. No matter what you say or do, their narrative of who they think you are will never change. It is a loos but is humiliating when you have tried numerous times and you get bread crumbs or none at all. I have needed to set boundaries instead of being trampled over repeatedly. Today, I surround myself with those that have peace, love and joy to give me.

I can relate to feeling I get bread crumbs from certain people and as I look back I tell myself but even the crumbs are love but yet I repeatedly get upset at them over it.
