  • Do you need good screwdrivers?
    In this video I show you some Snap-on Instinct screwdriver sets that I have been using in my shop for quite a while.
    These are excellent screwdrivers to own and I highly recommend them.

    I have a set of blue handled Snap-on screwdrivers that I bought in the 90's, I haven't broke one yet! Used very hard too. The best screwdrivers I've ever used by far! Thanks Don for the video!

    I still have a set of black handled SnapOn screw drivers from the 70's. They've been used for just about everything including as screw drivers. Haven't broke yet, even though I've tried.

    Hey Don you should check out the "Cats Paw" screwdrivers made by "Mayhew". I bought a set when I worked as an automotive technician. They are very similar to the Snap On screwdrivers but the metal shaft of the actual driver goes all the way through the handle unlike the Snap On ones. I think I paid $50 for them and they have been the best screw drivers I have ever owned. Lifetime warranty too.

    @mrman17 8 лет назад +1

    Yes, they are expensive, but I have several I bought in the early 90s and they are still good. You save money in the long run in both the cost of not having to keep replacing them, and also from not wasting time from where you've rounded off the screw.

    I personally like the craftmans drivers, the are durable and warrantied for life. 20 years ago, I broke the tip on a Robby , it set on my box for 20 + years, took it back, no questions asked, go replaced. And it's half the price. Made in the USA

    One great feature which you didn't mention is that the hex base of the shaft allows a box end wrench to apply more torque when trying to remove a real stubborn screw.

    I have so many screwdrivers and for some reason can't keep track of all of them at any given time. I keep a tool bag now in one of my vehicles and will have one in each of the vehicles just in case I need them while away. Snap-on makes the best tools and they are very pricey too. The warranty is great though and if you can catch the van you can get it replaced quickly.

    For me the only part that really matters is the tips, if the phillips tip fits proppery and its really hard so it does not wear on the sides of the tip, its good.
    The crossheaded tips/screws are designed to camout, and they do, i stick to straight slotted screws where i can.

      +zx8401ztv : The Pozi/Phillips head screws were designed for production lines that use air drivers, they are easier to locate for fast production line conditions where the workers are less than attentive, when we get to use them they have normally been attacked by various other tools in an attempt to undo them, so as you say, they cam out of the screw head.

    Great review Don! I've got some Snap-On instincts (softgrip) as well and I really like them! The torque you can put on them with your hands is just amazing! I really like my Wiha screwdrivers too and I don't think I could make a choice between these brands!
    Have a nice weekend :)

      Jeff Martinez It's a set of screwdrivers. They shouldn't cost $100. and yes I can afford it but $100 for a set of screwdrivers is nuts IMHO.

    Two minor glitches: The screwdrivers in your un-opened box may look red to you, but they're orange. If you read the part number again, it's SHDX60O; the "O" indicates the handle color, which in this case is orange. You stated that the screwdrivers "...are all Phillips or star end..", which caught my attention. Torx are often referred to as "star end", but there aren't any in this set. Beyond that, a nice video. I'm a DIYer, so I buy them individually as the need comes up; it doesn't hurt as much when I do it that way. I really like the grippy, two-component handles, and the blades are very durable. Initially pricey, but worth the money.

    • @RichardFallstich
      @RichardFallstich 8 лет назад +1

      +donyboy73 The hex "bolster" on the screwdriver is there so you can use a wrench to apply more torque if necessary. The shaft & tip of these screwdrivers are molded into the handle, I do not believe they are replaceable. See page 2 of this from Snap-On pst-ir.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Hand_Tools_Part_4.pdf

    • @453421abcdefg12345
      @453421abcdefg12345 8 лет назад

      +donyboy73 : These con men selling you a tool for three times it's value will tell a mug anything to get a sale, the hex bolster is there for applying extra torque to a screw, (but if you use it and break the tip, snap off will tell you that you have abused the tool, and will not replace it, mugged!
