    Great breakdown of the winning resume and cover letter! I am honestly nervous to look at my first resume, probably pretty bad haha. However, if you consider the competition at the intern level, the bar is probably going to be pretty low anyways, so it's all good!

      yeah, it's helpful for lab/R&D roles if you know they require you to have lab skills, but if you're working in manufacturing it might not be as important. so it might depend on the job you're applying for.

    Hi Shawn! I've been watching a lot of your videos recently and sometimes on repeat in the background while studying, and there are few questions I really wonder about. I apologize if these things are already in your videos.
    How hard is the Board exam? What'd you do before taking the licensure exam? I am worrying of not learning much especially since here in the Philippines, we are still on online learning due to the pandemic.
    Are you studying at university while being an intern? Or did you take time off of school?
    Can you give some of your insights on unpaid internships because it does exist... For some reasons..
    I apologize if there's too much questions. I am a sophomore taking ChE currently and wanted to figure things out. Your videos really help students like me and please keep posting more in the future. Thanks shawn!

      Hi Aj, I’m always happy to answer your questions!
      1. I take my board exam after 3 years of professional experience (I live in canada)

    • @shawn.builds
      @shawn.builds  3 года назад +1

      2. I took 16 months total of internships (paid experience) through an internship program at school

    • @shawn.builds
      @shawn.builds  3 года назад +2

      3. Unpaid internships should be illegal IMO, they make it unfair for richer families to get unpaid positions and build experience while others can’t afford to take an unpaid internship. However if you have no other choice and you need experience you may have to consider it. It’s good to set boundaries for an unpaid internship (length of term, only work on relevant experiences, recommendation letters) because lots of people get taken advantage of in these situations.

    So in computer skills you havent had experience with aspen plus or hysys?Isnt that a bit strange for chemical engineering? And If I am not mistaken you said you were member of a design team sometime in the past so how did that workout without any of that software or alternatives like simpro,unisim? Also I was expecting to see MATLAB instead of C programming.

    • @shawn.builds
      @shawn.builds  3 года назад

      I hadn't taken ASPEN Plus or HYSYS yet because this was second year, I took Aspen in 3rd year. I also didn't join a design team until after 3rd year. :P

    • @shawn.builds

      I did take MATLAB but I think this resume was before I updated my resume to that, I took C in first year

      if you already have a bachelors in engineering, shouldnt make too much of a difference. i'd say 90% of jobs won't care whether it's eng or science, but some jobs do require you to be a certified engineer which you can only become if you went to school for engineering
