Wow, I don't remember Vince Coleman playing for the Mariners and being in this series, which is a classic. Gary Thorne and Phil Rizzuto and Don Mattingly, and there's Andy Pettitte as a rookie. It was beautiful then, but looks even more beautiful when you look back at it! Thanks for the upload!
I was in the right field bleachers with three of my friends. We bought tickets from a scalper ten minutes before game time for a hundred per ticket. I could have paid a thousand per ticket and it still would have been a bargain. By far the best sporting event I have ever been a part of. Rizzuto started it off with a standing room only first pitch, and It only got wilder and louder from there. The Mattingly home run landed directly two rows in front of me. I tracked that ball the whole way and it was coming right at me. If I play the video in slow motion I can see the four of us going out of our minds. The Mattingly home run is the single most electrifying moment I have ever witnessed in person. Sixty thousand fans going berserk. Did you notice the stadium shaking under your feet? And I've never heard a crowd that loud before or since. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions back and forth. And I'll cherish this game and the Mattingly homer forever. I didn't get home until five in the morning. I called out of work the next day (the scratchy voice from yelling and screaming the night before helped) and I then proceeded to sleep fourteen straight hours from physical and emotional exhaustion. This was Mattingly's last game in Yankee stadium and the first and only postseason home run of his hall of fame worthy career. But I'm glad he was able to get one last moment of greatness. It still hurts having them lose all three in Seattle. It's kind of weird seeing Mattingly on a Yankee team with Jeter, Bernie, Pettitte, Posada, Mariano and O'Neill. One more season is what Mattingly needed. The dynasty was in place.
I was there with my pops too…first Yankee game ever. 8 years old. Give me chills still every time I watch these highlights. So many rigid memories still!
I along with three friends were in the right field bleachers. Mattingly's homer landed directly two rows in front of me. If I run the video in slow motion I can see the four of us going out of our minds. This was the greatest game I ever saw in person. And the Mattingly homer was the loudest I have ever heard a crowd. You could actually feel the stadium shaking. We were all going out of our minds. I think everyone in the bleachers ended up in different seats after the Mattingly homer. Complete strangers were hugging and jumping on top of one another. I didn't get home in New Jersey until 5am. I'll never forget on the drive home my best friend saying we'll never experience anything like this ever again. I called out sick from work (my voice was raspy from yelling the night before so that helped) and I proceeded to sleep fourteen straight hours recovering from the physical and mental exhaustion of the night before. This was Mattingly's last game in Yankee stadium and the first and only post season home run of his hall of fame worthy career. I'm so happy that he got this moment and he can look back and feel the love and appreciation we all had for him. It's strange seeing Mattingly on the same team as Jeter, Bernie, Pettitte, Mariano, Posada and O'Neill. He just needed one more season. The dynasty was already in place.
What a story 💪🏾 I was only 13 but my infatuation grew in that series from years of watching Donnie , Roberto Kelly , Matt Nokes , Kevin Maas , Danny Tartabull , Jim Abbot , Mel Hall and so on , what a run we had 🥺
Before anyone knew he would go on to become the greatest reliever in baseball history, rookie Mariano Rivera calmly pitches 3 and 1/3 scoreless in extra innings to give the Yankees the opportunity to win it.
Watched this game with my brother and my son who was 6 years old at the time! My son died(was murdered) on mother's day of 2023. Miss him so much!😢 This brought back good memories and tears!
I was there--upper deck by 3rd base. Not only the greatest baseball game I've ever attended but the greatest sporting event I've ever attended! The atmosphere at Yankee Stadium was the most electrifying atmosphere I've ever been fortunate to be a part of! I'll never forget it!!
I haven't seen this in years. What a game! Back and forth all night with extra inns no less. I'm a M's fan but I can appreciate incredible! Yes I'll give you my vote for greatest event.
1. I miss the old stadium so much 2. I wish Gary Thorne still called playoff baseball 3. Amazed the number of players on the 95 Mariners that would eventually become Yankees
I 'm so glad they have instant reply today. Both of these teams were on the wrong end of bad umpiring. Both were bang-bang plays that were called incorrectly. Proves we are all human.... even the umpires!
I’m sure we won the series taking a 2-0 lead right? In all seriousness I can’t downplay how iconic and important the Seattle comeback was for baseball in the city.
This series was incredible. Of the five games, I think this one was the best. And I say that as a very partisan Ms fan. The drama, the back n forth, and the mega-star power is fun to watch and remember. PS; Lou Pinella angrily yelled at a group of Yankee fans after the game, “You *#%*s have just watched your team play it’s last *#%^*ng game at this stadium!!” And, of course, he was right. 😏
What a terribly called game. IDK why it took baseball so long to implement instant replay..even though IR wouldn't help that horrible strike 3 call. Geez
Even today I still don't know why this Mariners team from 95-98 when they were loaded with Griffey, Big Unit, A-Rod, Edgar and Sweet Lou managing could never even get to a World Series there were bright moments though
Didn’t keep the role players around their superstars around. Mariners in the 95 offseason dumped Tino, Nelson, Blowers. Pretty much gifted the Yankees two great players for their minor league scrubs (Davis and Hitchcock)
I’ll give the umps credit. Yes they were terrible but they let a lot of shit go. That one interaction after the strike three call I don’t know how the ump didn’t give him the hook Would never see that from the charmin soft umps today
In hindsight it's perhaps the best thing that could have happened to both teams. The '95 ALDS may have saved MLB in Seattle for all intents and purposes. The series also gave the Yanks the motivation to come back and win it all in '96 and build the dynasty of the late '90s.
Gary Thorne and Phil Rizzuto LEGENDARY!!!
9:01 "THIS ONE BY MATTINGLY. OHHH HANG ON TO THE ROOF. GOOODBYE HOME RUN, DON MATTINGLY"!!..Still get chills from this.
Oh yeahhhhh

I was there that night. It's probably the best MLB game I've ever seen in person.
I was at this game with my pops. Till this day it's the best game I ever attended. When Mattingly went deep the place went bananas.

@@donwilcox728 My Goofy Brother left the game in the 13th. He didn't want to get wet.

And a relatively unknown Posada came into the game as a pinch runner, wearing #62!

Actually Rizzuto came back to announce 1 more year for the 1996 season. He called Derek Jeter’s first career home run at Cleveland.
Gotta be one of the craziest games and series ever
1. I miss the old stadium so much
2. I wish Gary Thorne still called playoff baseball
3. Amazed the number of players on the 95 Mariners that would eventually become Yankees

I kind of like it. Even though it is wrong in hindsight it drives the emotion way harder
Not me it added to the drama of the game n you don’t get the pissed off managers kicking dirt on umps anymore
Good lord some horrible umpiring in this game
19:58 Hollywood type of stuff! Underrated moment in the game!
Had the ball bounced any differently the Yankees would have won there
Mattingly Home Run call is the greatest call ever!!!
This was the world’s introduction to the Great Mariano Rivera.
And he struck out 5 in 3.1 innings. Pretty good omen.
I’m sure we won the series taking a 2-0 lead right? In all seriousness I can’t downplay how iconic and important the Seattle comeback was for baseball in the city.
At 4:45, that was a terrible called 3rd strike. Don't blame Dion James for being mad.
Oh my God he's very upset 😡
Hey dion you pissing me off
Then, a year later Tino Martinez became a Yankee.
Same with Luis sojo
@@briandonovan7368 And Jeff Nelson. Big time additions that helped make them champs in '96!
some truly horrendous calls in this game lol. sojo is so safe at second on the tag up play
I remember Gary Thorne’s biased commentary vividly from 1995.
Was glad Musberger took over the rest of the series
Can you please upload a highlight video of game 5 of this same series? That would be dope
I was working that night! Didn't see it!

I liked more when he guaranteed the 2001 M’s were coming back home for game 6 after going down 0-2 on their way to NY
F Ken Griffey Jr. 5 Home Runs in that ALDS. Major Yankee killer. Him and Edgar.
I love this announcer. So much better than Jon Sterling.
What a terribly called game. IDK why it took baseball so long to implement instant replay..even though IR wouldn't help that horrible strike 3 call. Geez
Mariano showed his promise this game
Great edit. Thanks for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
These umps were f*cking horrible!

3 words: New York Yankees…
Yankees were the class of the AL the M’s ran into an absolute buzzsaw
@@GoBlue_yanks42 the Mariners pitching was also their weak link during the late 90's
Didn’t keep the role players around their superstars around.
Mariners in the 95 offseason dumped Tino, Nelson, Blowers.

I miss Phil
this was the beginning of the dynasty......
These umpires got away with murder in those days.
11:33 watch the crowd reaction behind Mattingly. Green jacket "WTF"
Wait What happened on Leyritz at bat ? He got hit Don’t recall call
95 Yankees are underrated

And also as someone who was only 1 year old in 1995 it’s VERY strange to see Mariano Rivera pitching out of a full wind up.
and then they lost 3 straight in Seattle to lose the series 😆

Buck should of played Strawberry instead of Dion James!!
Was so worried about righty on Lefty matchups IMO
