All 4 main characters improved greatly over the seasons and peaked imo between seasons 4-6. They crafted their personalities and voices to perfection. Especially Peg and Bud.
I grew up on this show and I always had a thing for Peg. She was always down for some good times. I used to think Al was nuts to refuse her. Being married for 11 years with a son and daughter, I get it now, I’m turning into the man that raised me. Best tv dad of all time.
He was def. the most tolerant/defeated one. Never left despite Peg not really doing her part and the kids being little leeches most of the time. He was never choleric or abusive in a real way (just with spicy sarcams). He let everyone do their thing and just wanted some peace.
I watched a ton of MWC when I was young and my favorite episodes were always the mid to later season episodes - I think they really came into their own. Childish Al Bundy was the best Al Bundy.

I agree. Typically, actors like to tweak their roles over time, based on the audience reaction. The first season of any series is always more of an "experiment" than anything else. Once the writers and actors on this show got comfortable with the level of craziness they could show without repercussions, they took it up a notch.
