The song that most sums up how I felt when my father died...he died in my arms on a sunny spring day...our love for each other was (and still is) stronger than death. See you one day soon!
I also have selected this song to be played at my funeral. It is so beautiful. Today I listen to it and think of my Grandmother on the anniversary of her death. She and my Grandfather were the definition of love to me. I love them so much, and miss them terribly. May they rest in peace, together again. Thank you for posting this. God bless you.
Matt is the perennial music genius, and sings about issues which others either daren't, or don't know how. His continued choice of changing staff is almost akin to the late Mark E Smith (The Fall), but Jim Fitting on Love is Stronger................ perfection. Many thanks Matt. You saved me x
Thanks a lot for posting this! I listened to it over and over and over in a depression clinic where I ended up after my sister died. The words "when everything that dies shall rise" were (and still are) a balsam for my soul.
I bought my first The The album when I was 17 (I'm 42 now) and I have never turned back. I was hooked from the first few notes of "Good Morning, Beautiful". Matt Johnson's voice is absolutely hypnotic.
God this guy wrote some beautiful songs! I only ever bought his first two albums, but so many of these songs haunt me. This one, in particular, is just an amazing juxtaposition of two very different feelings, the melancholy and the hopeful.
Saved by The The again. I've been internally grieving the death of a complicated-relationship parent for months now- and my blood pressure showed it.Hearing this made me break, finally.
Extraordinary .... Brilliant .... Awesome ... None of these words can describe The The .... Wow! there are no true words .... one of the GREATEST bands ever!!! Thank you Matt Johnson for your contribution to my life!!!!
every album is a complete hermetically sealed doorway to an extraordinarily magical hypnotic painful world.....more addictive than any drug i,ve come across in 43 years...thanks x
+mel kelly you summed that up so well M8! I am so much in agreement with you !! keep quality music alive! as DUSK comes upon us revealing those dark mysteries to us!!
Some people have that they want to be an organ donor on the backs of their license. I have two songs listed to be played at my funeral and THIS song is one of them. It is profound and beautiful and hopeful. My grandmother's last words were, "Love, Love, Love" Thank you Matt Johnson. You have made my life richer. Thanks for posting this great performance!
Have to say this. I was in a hotel room in FL, knowing I was heading to a divorce. I walked to an IHOP close by, and no shit "This is the Day" was playing on the muzak. I almost died. It was my savior. Knew the tune from 20 years prior. It was amazing!
Come on Matt. Even if you don't like the music biz anymore your fans love you. You can't write like you do and not touch people's hearts. You've been a massive part of my life since '83. Even if you just tour with old stuff we don't mind. We just want to see you out there again. Howay Matt, do it for the people who think you're the bollocks and give us a few shows. Try Stockton festival, Mercury Rev headlined last year, and you're miles better than them.
'Hello Glasgow...still barmy'......MATT JOHNSON Barrowlands, many years ago, following a rapturous welcome to 'Armageddon Days'. Still my favourite of all time.
Few listeners might ever notice, but this song is about "resurrection". Even fewer will agree with me, but, year after year, album after album, I hear a deep something which might even be called "religiosity" in Matt's music. For me, his faith is believable, as there are no short-cuts, no avoidances, no easy ways out, no clueless denials.

this is how a band should sound live...
Briliant songwriter/musician. Found my tour T-shirt from Newport Centre 1989. Would be great to have a 2011 one.
Went to see them in concert tonight...Awesome...his voice so visceral...
Mark Varney me too, fantastic show
Yes me too, went both nights in Melbourne with a front row seat on the second night. We are truly blessed to have Matt and his music
