  • This covers how you determine which way to turn the bolt, and the correct way to install the blade.
    When I looked under this mower I realized the mistake, I didn't know there was a wrong way to do it until today. :-)

      That's one of those things that always gets people. Different motors can turn different directions. It applies to everything, not just mowers 👍

    What if there are no 'knobs' that fits in the wholes of the blade are gone? :(

    • @GuysPlayingWithTools
      @GuysPlayingWithTools  11 месяцев назад

      If the blade adapter pins are missing or worn all the way down, you should replace it. There are a few different styles, so make sure you match yours.

  • @kam75

    knobs act as spear pins also...if blade hits a pipe or similar the knobs will shear off and blade spins free protecting engine shaft from breaking.

    • @GuysPlayingWithTools
      @GuysPlayingWithTools  9 месяцев назад +1

      I have seen that happen too. I wouldn't think it would work, but every and then, I get one with the pins sheared and a torn up blade.... and a perfectly good crank. .

      happened to in-laws...knobs are bit softer and sort of "pressed" into place ready to sear.@@GuysPlayingWithTools

    Looks like that blade was put on wrong. You fix the bolts lining up but there was no washers like there is on my Craftsman mower there on other Craftsman mowers there is a plate that comes off with it has another lock in washer and my bolt was too long. Wouldn't go in seem like threads were getting caught almost stripped out I got a new bolt n blade I can't find a video of the actual mower or what size of socket people were talking about 3/8 to 1/2 in

      @GuysPlayingWithTools  Месяц назад +1

      They are definitely different from one to the next, this is correct for this one but you are 101% right, some have additional washers and the bolt won't tighten without them. One of the downsides of making videos about things like this is that I can't cover every situation out there. What's the model # on yours? I will keep my eyes open and if I have one(or when I get one) I will touch on the differences in a video.

    Important… disconnect the spark plug before fiddling under the mower. I’m not sure I heard that in this video. Question to the creator. What’s that nifty tool you used. Looking like it will make this job easier.

    • @GuysPlayingWithTools
      @GuysPlayingWithTools  Месяц назад +1

      I don't worry about disconnecting the plug if I have verified that the kill switch works... I have recently started saying that you should test it before working on the mower, but you are right, I didn't say it here.
      The tool was a 3/8 impact. It was retired last year in favor of a battery impact gun that I like a lot better.

      One person who starts changing a blade on a mower should research before making hey do a stupid thing. Of course, disconnect the spark plug. You will never know what you run into, especially if a woman who likes to deal with stuff yourself. Do your research before you start! This is from a self sufficient proclaimed woman who is always aware and analyzing all I do.

      One more thing.. us women live alone more and more.
      I do not want to encourage women to be super dooper.
      Is women were left on earth to be mothers and to be the sweet home keepers with love for our kids and men, to cook wonderful meals and hold the family with love.
      But if we end up alone we should also be able to tend to our issues smartly.
      My opinion is: today we have the luxury of finding help online.
      Be relaxed and ask for help!! Lots of wonderful professional men will help you online!

    Forgive my ignorance but what tool did you use?

    • @GuysPlayingWithTools
      @GuysPlayingWithTools  2 месяца назад +1

      That's a good question. I used a 3/8 impact air tool in this video, but that was a while ago. Battery impact guns have improved greatly since then, and I use a Milwaukee 3/8 impact gun for the same job now.
      You could use a standard socket set, but it's a LOT easier and faster with your favorite impact tool.

    Hi! I have a question. I ran into something hard with my lawnmower and I thought the blade was busted. When I turned it and checked, noticed that square at the end of the shaft and the blade was no longer on the pins, and the pins are busted, they no longer hold the blade.
    I tried to remove the blade to see if that square can be replaced, but i cannot remove it, it turns over the square regardless how hard I tried to clamp them together. Is there a trick on how to take the blade off, other than clamping tools?
    Thank you so much!!

      Actually it is not the blade turning
      Sorry. I stopped the blade with a clamp. The square is turning when I try to take the bolt out

      Good Morning. I have to say, I thought "Yikers" when I read this, but all is not lost(probably)
      This will be wordy but I want to go over everything as much as possible and tell you what I wish people told me when I was getting started.
      There is a chance you bent the crankshaft, and if that's the case, I don't recommend trying to straighten it out because the internals of the motor may have also had a bad afternoon. Rotate the blade and look for any indication it's out of alignment on the center bolt, if it seems to be rotating on the center axis, it's saveable!
      In that case this isn't as hard to fix as you may think. There is a blade adapter between the blade and the crankshaft and that's the part with the pins that you bolt the blade to. Take the center bolt out and it should come off pretty easily, it might need a puller since it took a hit, most auto stores will loan you one for free.
      You can get a replacement blade adapter online or at your local parts store pretty cheap, They are usually between $15 and $20. With the right tools and a little luck it's a 5 minute job. *Be careful about which way the nut turns!* It might be "left handed" I have a video on how to figure it out easily, ruclips.net/video/iU876-bgQHo/видео.html
      Let me know if you need anything else, and how it comes out!

    • @NicoletaWestren-jk2kg
      @NicoletaWestren-jk2kg Месяц назад +1

      Thank you very much for your reply. I also thought shaft might be bent. The bolt moves with the square, and one of the pins is more worn than the other, which tells me shaft might have a bit of a bent. I left it with a wd40 soak and will try again to clamp the square to the blade and try one more time to take the bolt out. If not, I will put it in the car and take it in. Also might have to check on warranty as it’s got 4 years. Keep my fingers crossed, bought it because it has a Briggs and Stratton engine ☹️
      Will let you the outcome.
      Thanks a lot!

      @@NicoletaWestren-jk2kg
      Don't worry too much about the uneven pin wear, it's odd but not terribly unusual. If you don't have one, beg, borrow, buy or steal a battery impact gun. I bought mine specifically because I had a blade that I couldn't get off and I was tired of dragging out air hoses to use the big impact. It has never failed to take blades off with nearly no effort, you usually don't even have to hold the blade. The day you try it I will get a comment about how easy it was. 😀
      If you can't borrow one, consider that the cost to take it into a shop will subsidize a new one. FYI, the one you see me using in the videos is a 3/8 Milwaukee M12 impact and it works like a charm. It's more work to walk over to the mower than it is to take the blade off.
      (Make sure you are trying to turn it the right direction, it's not obvious.)

    • @NicoletaWestren-jk2kg

      That bolt is not coming out whatever I tried, used 4 clamps. Two on the square and blade and two on the edge or the mower to keep the blade. Shaft is for sure bent.
      Lucky me I have a tractor mower and this one is for small areas. Will take it in, not sure the warranty will cover.
      Thanks again!

      Do you mean the little pins that stick out of the part you bolt the blade to(the blade adapter)?
      If so, it's also replaceable, and they are usually pretty cheap.
