  • The Hamburgian musican JENS ZYGAR plays a part of his composition COSMOSIS one of the biggest gongs on planet earth! Its a rare Paiste-instrument (one of six) with a diameter around 200 cm; this symphonic gong was build probabely in the 80ies last century. There is a magic story of how this tremendous instrument came to the KLANGHAUS in KLEIN JASEDOW (ask Johannes for this story...) The video as well as the sound was spontanously recorded with a Cannon MK2 in march 2010; the soundfile had to be remixed, which was done by CHRISTIAN WAGNER in the REDHOUSE STUDIO, in reality there are much much more bass-frequencies around; (of course!) but anyhow; its a fantastic example for real acoustic analog space sound music! Enjoy it!

Finally, some good footage of one of Paiste's 80" Symphonic Gongs being played. Thanks so much for posting this! I really like the style with which this musician plays the instrument.
To everyone who watches this: use headphones!!

Genius! The understanding one would have to have of standing waves, physics, and harmonics would be phenomenal. Love it!

its not a matter of price. it was a rare chance to get the needed material and just a few of these huge sized where made; the next smaller brother/sister :-) with 150 cm square is available and definitly a miracle as well; you can see the size of it on my video gong how to play part 2; feel free to contact me if you are interested in further informations, have a great day, jens

(By "good" I mean "extensive." The only other videos of such instruments I've seen were very brief, with only one light strike, but this one provides a fine example of really playing the instrument.)

I would take both of these sticks or what they are called and would go 20 metres back and then I'd run like fuck and would throw them into the gong like shit and with all the power i have in my arms!

    Is there a recommended metal thickness for different diameter gongs? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I think I want to make a 24 inch (60.96cm), a 38" (96.52cm), a 60" (152.4cm) and a 80" (203.2cm). Thank you✌

very very explosive and so powerfull even when played softly with the mallets he reved it up nicely but i was waiting for the huge big hit it dident happen so to me he was just priming the gong up rather than giving it its final needed hit look at PAISTE GONG TEST AND SEE WHAT I MEAN BY THAT SINCERLY SAEWOT CHECK MINE OUT ALSO !

How much would a gong this size cost? I can't even imagine! And I wonder how heavy it would be to transport.
