Zava is based on Zlatan Ibrahimović. Lebron James famously sent Zlatan a shirt. He signed it and sent it back!

Yeah, I was stoked when he started playing for the Galaxy. Then I realized he was just here in the US to show Euro clubs that his knee was really fixed. It was the Galaxy's turn to play here in Atlanta that year, thought I was going to get to see him! He never even got on the airplane. I understand the guy not wanting to risk another injury, but what he said was, "Zlatan does not play on plastic."

The sun doesn’t rise until Zlatan wakes, the moon doesn’t shine unless Zlatan tells it to, and the cicadas don’t chirp if Zlatan doesn’t chirp first. So it makes sense why he would do that.

@@DLA. I did like the lil' bit in a previous episode where Zava only wanted to play in the UK because his wife loved a UK TV show. I still think it was another "Easter Egg' to US fans of the game. Only reason Beckham played here was because that Spice Girl he married wanted to live in Hollywood. 😄

I was so happy to see Trent Crimm return for the season. James Lance is great in that role and I loved the character. I can't say for certain, but I do think Phil Dunster was cracking up in that scene. Of course, it would have been pretty real for Jamey to be giggling over Roy's rage directed at someone besides Jamey. In the standings, teams get 3 pts for a win and 1 for a draw.

EPL is a traditional soccer league. There's a points table that measures performance over the season. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. Club with the most points at the end of the season are the Champions! My friends from the UK tease me all the time about MLS - "You Americans certainly love your 'playoffs', don't you?" I *like* ending the season with a mini-tournament..it's fun!

I love Trent in this season, he's so important to some of the best plotlines this season, and it's always nice to have a fresh perspective.
Jamie saying "It's actually quite funny when he yells at other people isn't it?" makes me laugh so much. Jamie's the most common person for Roy to yell at first of all, which means the other team members have been able to laugh at Roy shouting at Jamie like that, but otherwise, Roy is usually shouting at the whole team - which Jamie is also part of. If Roy has ever shouted at anyone else, Jamie hasn't been there to witness it. So from his perspective, he's never NOT been the one Roy's yelling at before - Roy shouting at Trent is the first time he's ever gotten to be an observer!
Also great job noticing that the players are giving input now! In the last episode of s2, I think it was the first time any of them had ever had a coach ask them for their input during a game. No one had ever asked them if they thought what they were already doing was working or if they should change it up, but now that they know their coaches are willing to listen, they have things to say!! And it probably affects how they pay attention to things on the field as well.
Finally, Hoooo boy gear up for Zava! I cannot WAIT to get into the nitty gritty around him as we progress! You are absolutely right that something's going on with Jamie about Zava, but you'll discover that, unlike with Nate, Jamie is completely valid in his feelings. Your initial thoughts on it are accurate at the moment though - at this point in time, Jamie *is* feeling his title as best player on the team is threatened and he's not really sure what to do about it. He doesn't want to go back to being prick Jamie, so he's not sure how to express insecurity or apprehension or other negative emotions. He's deflecting here, but that will change.

Zoreaux was out of the net to shorten the angles which the ball carrier has to shoot. By meeting the ball carrier on a breakaway it makes it substantially harder to score, it would actually have been “embarrassing” if he had just stayed on his line, he would’ve had 0 chance to make the save that way. At least that way he had a small chance. I will never tolerate this slander of the greatest Canadian footballer of all time

With Roy I think it's because his exterior is so gruff that any emotional reveal feels special, we know how rarely it happens so it feels really earned. And also just that Brett Goldstein performs it well.
(and no, Richmond don't need to win every game, they just need to score more points than any other team - well, strictly speaking they can score the same number of points and it'd then come down to goal difference then most goals scored in the season then a few other criteria and if _all_ of those were also equal there'd then be a play-off to decide it. In fact it's _mathematically_ possible to win the league just with draws so long as every team draws every match _and_ your team scores the most goals in the season but needless to say, that's never happened :)

Just an FYI, Zoreaux gets a bad rep because the show only highlights the goals in the show over the saves. It gets mentioned on TV in the background that he makes a lot of saves that contribute to their victories, but we only get to see the failures, which is meant to show that the whole team has failed when it's left up to him alone to save the goal (if there's no defender between the striker and keeper, that's a failure on the defence).
Also, if there are no defenders between the striker and the goalkeeper, the keeper will step out as it narrows down the angles the striker can shoot from without having to run further, rather than the keeper stand in the goal and jump in a random direction when the striker shoots and hoping they jumped the correct way. Chances are, the striker will beat them, but the keeper is trying to make the striker run further to wear them out. Zoreaux stepping out is a legitimate tactic.

There was some minor controversy in this episode: the sign that says 'They don't make them like Roy anymore' at the stadium was actually one in memory of a real-life, well loved player who'd passed on, and people got a bit grumbly over it being used for a fictional character.
