Very helpful video. You cleared up a lot of the confusion I came across while trying to compare these for purchase online. Thanks!

The audio cable for the Peltor is proprietary and costs around $25-40. It is just a standard stereo cable ($3) but it has the special "peltor" jack, which makes it very inconvenient if you need a replacement.
I returned the Peltor headset ($130) and purchased the Howard Leight ($60). The amplified audio of ambient noise on the Peltor was hands down much better audio quality. Problem is, you don't need great audio quality to make out human voices and most ambient sounds.
    Peltor vs. Howard Leight
    Headset - $130 vs. $60
    Initial cable - $30 vs. $5
    Replacement cable - $30 vs. $5
    Shipping - $10 vs. $10
    Total ~ $200 vs. $80
Summary - the audio processor that amplifies ambient sound is not worth $120, rather buy a replacement Howard Leight.
Thanks Jon for helping me decide.

Thanks for the video. Doing research for my purchase and I'm definitely going with the Howard Leights. They are running around $50 where the Peltors run around $100. The biggest comparison issue I have is the HLs have a standard AUX input jack and the Peltors have a proprietary AUX jack you have to purchase an additional adapter cable for. I can but two pairs of HLs for me and the wife for the cost of one set of the Peltor.

I just picked up the howard lights, I am impressed. They are light but secure and don't pinch my ears while I wear my glasses. I have a long tall head structure even with that they have the size adjustment to fit well. Worth not paying the sale price.

Can you please explain exactly how to open the battery compartment on the Howard Leight's please? I just got a pair and the instructions suck.

On right ear-cup, the black outer upper portion covers the batteries. You need to get a fingernail under bottom edge of black portion and slide it upward, toward headband.

If I did not already have the Peltor's i would be quite happy with the HL's. I think HL has an awesome product at a very reasonable price. Thanks for adding to the discussion.

the sound quality is awesome, but I am not an audiophile so your mileage may vary. I have been using them as my computer gaming headset for 4 years now!

Can I connect a radio com. to the sport tactical since it has an output jack? Or I have to spend $600 for a Com Tac 3...

Trajanowski Rifleworks I know the peltor connection is a unique plug, but I imagine with some research, a method could be devised. I suggest visiting Peltor website for particulars. Good luck

I seem to be seeing peeling on my howard leight headphones. Its on the padding almost like a layer of skin peeling off. Is this happening to yours ??

  • @ianevans67

Peltor are great and comfortable but design is useless. They are too big for clay shooting as they hit the comb long before your cheek does.

They better, that's the only advantage of an ops core to allow all ear protection even non-slim-lined to work. Personally I think ops core helmets are bad since you get lower protection (practically 50% less, its like a strip of kevlar) yet the price is as high if not more-so as the current full protection helmets. But anyway impulsive opinion rant over.

Sorry, don't know if it would work with a helmet. I would visit the Howard Leight website, and see if they can answer that. Good Luck , Thanks for watching

Jon with no h shootology channel I'd prefer if they used AA's. It was actually a detail I was looking at when comparing earmuffs. I still decided to purchase yhe Peltors. Glad I could help and thanks for making the video.
