    I’m going to be honest, when I realized the video was going to be of you guys mounding dirt, I figured I would work in the kitchen and just listen to the video from a distance. But I didn’t. I sat down and watched the whole thing and intently listened. I enjoyed listening to you two conversing together while working. I love how you two are together and it says so much about your relationship. I also really enjoy Buddy’s stories of growing up. Steph do you have stories you would be willing to share with us about your childhood to adult years? By the way…. You resting in front of the camera so Buddy thought you were talking to us was Brilliant! It made me laugh! 😂 Thank you!

    My mom, who died 4 yrs. ago at 89, always planted close together so there would be less weeds and she would water each row like you would with irrigation in fields, and let the rows get full of water. She always did it late afternoon to early evening so it would have all night to soak in. She never used a sprinkler. She always had a wonderful garden. Her squash, melons, and such were in hills to make them easier to pick. Surrounded by marigolds to keep squash bugs and such away. Having your rows closer also keeps moisture in better. I have done the same and my garden always did better. We are from Texas also.

    Thats why you people need to start putting your water pipes 6 foot under the ground to keep them from freezing on those freak cold winter days and insulate where they come out of the ground under a house. You will save yourself a lot of trouble and even have cooler water from the hose and faucets in the summer.

    Ramble on Buddy, the stories are great to hear. Y’all’s dedication to growing good, nutritious food for your family and being self-sustaining is wonderful. I have to admit I am a tad bit jealous as you will start harvesting about the time we finally get to start planting, and your growing season is far longer! The garden area is looking so great. Can’t wait to see the plants growing and thriving.
    When I was in 1st grade I got bit by a scorpion in Arizona, however my sister’s centipede bites were much worse and Mama and Daddy ended up having to rush her 53 miles into town to the ER, which was extremely rare that anyone went to the ER back then! The worst sting I have ever gotten was when we took Mama and Daddy back to the panhandle of Texas to bury them in the family cemetery and I got stung by fire ants on the inside of my knee!! Texas has a lot of really meanie things! 🤣🤣
    God bless you all and keep you safe ❤️🙏

    Steph & Buddy, you both are getting a good workout. There is a lot of hard work that goes into gardening. My Brother Danny sprays for insects, before he plants, and it keeps the bugs down. If you plant potatoes, there will be potato bugs on the plants, they are a soft orange like bug (not a ladybug), bugs will eat leaf part of a plant. I long to see the garden flourish, and the reward is eating all that delicious food, and it just taste so much better growing your own. 💖🙏

    PLEASE check out Hoss Tools and their seeds. They have a tool you can push and make your rows. You could have done that in 1 hour or so. Maybe not for this year but for next year. Jason at Cog Hill has one and he loves it. Do you ever watch him? because he put down a fabric then used a torch to burn holes in it so they didn’t have to tear it. He has already planted his spring garden and is doing his seeds for the summer crop. Do y’all like Turnip greens and corn bread? Now that is great eating!!

    It’s the same here (Athens,Gr.) as you have there,no infrastructure for bad weather 🤦‍♀️ no drains in the roads,so torrential rain ☔️💦 gushes everywhere,it sweeps people off of motorcycles & junctions where a hill feeds down (lots of hills here) is taking your life in your hands to cross 😬
    Snow is rare other than a dusting,but the last two years we had snow one day each.
    2022 we got 10” in 5 hrs ❄️❄️❄️ & it shut the entire city down for a week,they had absolutely no plan for snow! 🤦‍♀️😂🤣

    My scorpion story…I have lived in Florida all of my life, and like you, I had never seen any scorpions. One morning I was getting ready for school and put on a jacket that I had tossed in my bedroom floor the previous day. (Obviously, not where my mom said to put it.) I picked up my jacket, put it on, and bent my elbow to adjust the collar. OUCH!!! It got me on my forearm. It was the most painful bite/sting I have ever had! I don’t know how it got in our home, and I’ve never seen another one. From that day forward though, I started hanging up my jacket like my mother had asked. Even though I knew the little suckers could climb. Kid logic. 😂

  • @crystalnobody4689
    @crystalnobody4689 Год назад +1

    you need at least 2 1/2 to 3 feet between rows 1 for room to use a hand plow to get weeds out before the plants cover the row. 2 for the plants to spread out so you can walk between rows to water and 3 so you can harvest. More plants are not that great if you can't get between them to get weeds, water and harvest them because then all you end up with is poor producers or spoiled veg on the vines.

    Hey Steph & Buddy, just an idea but when I plant my squash and pumpkins I take a few post, like T-posts or u could use whatever kind of post ya want really. But I put me a couple of short rows in my garden area and throw up some fencing on my post tht way the squash and even the pumpkins will grow up them instead of laying on the ground and just going crazy as they do. But then u don’t have to go thru looking around for ur vegetables because they’re hanging there and u can see them and here in Ky we get so much rain at times and I don’t have to worry about them laying in the water and then rotting. I even had a pumpkin seed for whatever reason somehow got near one of the pine trees here. And before I knew it I had a pumpkin tree, LOL. The pumpkins were hanging all over tht tree so when I went to harvest them I had to get out my ladder and cut them from the tree. My lil guy got a kick out of tht one, 😂 Steph, I don’t think u have anything to worry about, I think ur garden is gonna be awesome. Unless there is a drought, then there’s nothing tht u can really do about tht. But I would love to have some of the manure there because I would be gathering it to scatter in tht area during the winter. The most natural fertilizer there is, and it makes everything grow. I do keep my coop shoveled out and I do tht to my garden all winter tht way it has time to breakdown. I can’t wait to get my garden started, still to many frozen nights here. Ur all’s ground looks great, I have as much rock as I do dirt here, 😂. Great job guys 👍
