- The X-Files Fan Retrospective: Rhys Darby Interview
Rhys Darby, known to X-Philes as "Guy Man", shares his memories during his filming of "Mulder and Scully Meet The Were Monster"! In our last in-person interview before Covid-19, Rhys shares how excited he was to audition for the role, what it was like working with the beloved Darin Morgan, and how humor made it easier to get through that certain scene with Gillian Anderson!
As fans of Flight of the Conchords, we were beyond excited to meet up with Rhys in NYC while he was there filming another project. Rhys was so kind, interesting, and generous with his time. This rough cut interview is a bit longer than others, and we hope you enjoy his memories and humor as much as we did!
Featuring interviews from over 90 members of The X-Files cast & crew, The X-Files Fan Retrospective explores the impact The X-Files has had on the pop culture landscape as well as the lasting impression on its fans. Rough-cut interviews are available on this RUclips channel for fans to enjoy while we work on the final project for the 30th anniversary!
Never thought he would doubt himself of Guy Mann role. That role was perfect for him, I actully laugh out loud multiple times with his scenes. You were doing amazing, sweetie 😊❤
Surprised he had to audition. They were lucky to get him. I always assumed it was written for him.
the whole thing was written as garbage
He’s the best 💜 So charming. Love that he’s getting to be a leading man now
that is one of my favorite X Files episodes ever!! It's so funny and intelligent at the same time. And Rhys' acting was superb!
and yes: WE BELIEVE!! he is right, there is soooo much disclosure in the X Files, it's going to be a documentary for normies once disclosure finally happens
Umm two of some of my favorite things!!! I’m just learning today he was in the X files 😮
Thank you sososo much! I always wanted to know more about this episode, and here you have Rhys, endearing, sweet and funny just talking about it for half an hour. This is a gift and I'm so glad he's found his way amongst humanity. He may feel alien but he's well loved.
Glad you're here, captain.
Been a phile since 1994 and I adore learning and finding out new stuff of my beloved show.
@Feuerkindjana thank you so much! We are still interviewing cast & crew and always ask other fans to assist with the interview questions! It is our pleasure to bring these fun interviews filled with memories and untold stories!
you seem sad, dumb, and lonely.
I love him so much ❤
I don’t have words for how much I love this episode!
Absolutely love Rhys! One of my favorite Rhys moments was on "@Midnight' gameshow. The question is "something something something the Kardashians?" I can't remember. Rhys buzzes in and yells with passion, "WHO GIVES A SH%%!" lol
One of the best episodes of all time. I never would have believed a season 10 episode could be this good. And 11X4 is almost equally good. Darin Morgan has a beautiful way of thinking and translating his thought into art.
adore this episode. It is the only great one from the revival.
Definitely one of my favorite episodes.
A fantastic episode ❤
This was the best episode❤ I laughed so hard!
Love this and Rhys so much. I grew up with kolchak (a 70s Paranormal Investigator show) which Rhys had little connection to. But the idea they dressed him as Kolchak, is so PERFECT. Of course, Kolchak was was of the inspirations for XFiles, and Darren McGavin was a guest on XFiles. If they ever properly revived that series, Rhys would be the one to cast. I love Rhys’ podcast The Cryptid Factor, so by the time I got to see this, I really did see the connections in his life. Forgot he was basically a cell phone salesman in New Zealand and was known for that. Nothing wrong with being a product rep in commercials. Pays the bills.
one of the worst episodes of all time. Not his fault but still, i would be ashamed.
maybe you just hate joy and whimsy 🤷
