- Replaced the driver side interior door handle. Near the end of the video I broke the upper hinge while installing the handle. Just use caution while raising the hinge. I Super Glued the hinge in place and was able to install the new door handle.
I consider myself able to do light mechanical work on my cars (the new ones are frustrating because you can't fix anything anymore) but your video was gold. I had to change my drivers door interior door handle and I watched other videos taking the entire door panel off. I found putting the cable in was less challenging if you placed the bottom pin in first the cable just kind of slides int place. It took me all of about 15 minutes to change. Thanks for a great tutorial.
Mine broke at the same place. Just use a zip tie and pre-bend it to "hook" around the plastic piece the top slots into. Works great
The ending was very helpful so I know not to spread the plastic too far. Thx.
That was soooo simple, in only 15 minutes I replaced 2 of front doors. Thank you, great help.
By the looks of the comments, you broke it when re-installing too.
I knew glue wouldn't last, so I got some self-tapping screws, drilled the broken piece and the remaining lip that the pin sits in, then upsized the holes in the top half and then matched them all back up and drove the screws in through both layers. Use button head screws instead of countersunk.
If you don't have the original piece, any solid plastic or even metal will work.
I did mine as you did without watching the video to the end so we both found out we snapped that plastic piece simultaneously. Lol I laughed pretty hard at that but ultimately I safety wired the top of the pin to the door. Everything worked out fine. Thank you!
Mine just snapped too. lol
@@barfly5432 Lol this is hilarious.. just not in real time as you ask yourself "why didn't I watch the video to the end first?" 😂
I am about to fix mine. This video and the comment of insert the top pin first will hopefully keep mine from being another casualty. It looks like a PITA so here's hoping.....Thanks for the video
yup mine broke too. I used some bailing wire to loop around the top of the metal shaft and ran the wire tight around the innards of the plastic mechanism that is bolted to the door. You will have to do same and be very creative and patient. took me one hour of finagling the bailing wire to get everything to stay in place, but I got it to work perfect. get some really good needle nose and such tools.
Good job. I think I used superglue.
I laughed so fucking hard at the end
Yep, we were so close to having it fixed without another problem.
Replaced window regulator just for that to happen at the end
Wow thanks guys i afraid to mess with mine now, i might just put the screw extender in like Steve had for his temp fix
Haha.I Came here just to read the comments after the end
Same!. Lol.. I think it happened to ALL OF US. 🤣
I snapped it exactly when y’all did 😂 very helpful video!! It’s a lot simpler than other ways! Anyone know what the name of the part that snapped in the video? Trying to replace it for a customer 😅
I used wire to fix the broken upper hinge when I replaced the driver side handle three years ago. It has worked without any issues. Now my passenger door handle is broken...
Thanks to your help, I changed the handle in 3 minutes
This is tricky. I broke it too even trying to be careful. I was fortunate since it broke off in a "U" shape giving me two good pieces to work with, one on each side of the steel pin. This is a real PITA to fix. Had to predrill the broken off piece for two screws, one to the front side of the pin and the other behind side of the pin. I used the thinnest shaft screws the hardware store had 5/8" long. Then I flipped the piece and super glued it in place with the spring and pin inserted and making sure the cable was properly inserted. The reason I flipped it was to get firm contact across the entire surface of the broken piece and the surface of plastic bracket. Once the glue was set I finished drilling through the bottom piece and screwed it. Pay close attention to the size of the drill and screw so as not to break the plastic. Should last. But I don't know what I'll do when the handle breaks again. This piece is part of the entire inner door plastic mounting piece that holds the window motor and electric latch mechanism etc.
I think I used superglue on the broken piece. It was still working on the day I sold the car which was about 3 years ago.
Thanks, I was one of the lucky ones for whom the pin didn't break, Navigator. Searched for other ways to do this but it seems the only way... Opening the whole door doesn't help much more.
I came to read the comments and find out a way to fix it when i broke it 😂
Thanks alot for the info, sorry about the end but I'm sure you've got her striaght by now.
Superglue did the job. I got lucky it was a simple fix.
The old plastic part holds the handle upper side where he sticks the screwdriver is prone to break easily, like mine did, because when you installing back the new door handle after you set the cable in to it's place stick the upper part of the pin FIRST! Otherwise upper part breaks 😔
Get a new camera man!!!
I broke mine also. I'm removing the door panel to see if I can use my plastic welder or just use epoxy. I would hate to have to buy a complete window regulator just to repair one little clip. They should have put better door handles on them from factory.... sshheeezzzzz
Is that what it's called? Window regulator?
Plastic tends to become bridal with age, that's a 20 year old truck. I see in the comments that most people repairing this breaks that piece.. I'll see if I can fix mine without breaking it.
GREAT VIDEO....
🤣🤣🤣
Just helping some DIYers save money.
The view of the actual removal and installation of the cable not included. Lol
No. Trying to figure out what kind of glue to use to put back on the broken part
Thank you very much
hey just a thought what if a little heat from a heat gun was added to warm the plastic part, do you guys think it might lessen or increase the chance of it breaking
My thought exactly, but didnt want to experiment.
Two things about your video you cannot see what you are doing and the other you move the camara too much, but you get the point across thank you.
I'm an amateur cameraman. I was watching my son and trying to point the camera at the same time.
My door handle broke, exactly like yours, I replaced it and im guessing because of the age the lil hinge that you lift broke.. would you happen to know where I can find one? I don't even know the name if it. I've searched multiple names but no where to be found . Thanks.
Hello, I have the same problem, did you happen to find the name of the piece? If not then what did you do to fix the problem?
The junkyard
@6:50 is my worst problem. That wired part is not fitting into the groove. What am i doing wrong @steves9617
TRQ has a good video
Do you know of the back doors are interchangeable with the front doors as long as it os the same side? My front passenger door has been broke aince I got the truck. I seen new handles online for $11 but when i looked to see whats wrong with the door I noticed that the clip was already broken. I thought about changing the complete passenger rear door to the front for the time being. I can't find a replacement part to replace the part that is broken already. Its the same piece that you broke off just on the passenger side. Thanks for any information.
I broke the same clip doing this,I used epoxy to to put it back together, letting it sit for tonight, will be installing the handle tomorrow. Do you know the name of the bracket, I've looked everywhere can't find it..
no
hoped it worked for you
Everything I NEEDED to see he was showing blank area of door..did not help at all
Snapped mine right before you snapped yours
@@idealclay oh man, sorry about that. I think superglue might work.
Good luck
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement plastic clip as I broken mine.
Looking for the same answer dude 😂
I think I will dremel out the old one and then just slide in the new one and then figure how to keep it in.
Not good we can not see the whole image
DO NOT USE THE SCREWDRIVE TO BEND THE TOP RETAINER FOR THE PIN!! IT WILL BREAK!! Find another way to get the pin out. The retainer is make of plastic. I spent three hours last night trying to superglue and duct tape the retainer back on, but without success.
Sorry to hear you had the same experience I did with the top hinge. I was able to superglue.
Too late...
Imagine actually showing what your doing
You're asking way too much. JK.
I actually agree with you.
Era más fácil quitar la carcasa de la puerta tienes más espacio y pueden hacerlo con más. Cuidado porque así fuerzas la manita con el.desamador plano y se rompe dónde agarra la manija nueva .
Why did you choose to do a video, when it comes time to actually see what needs to be done, you stop looking thru the lens n started watching the other guy. All we got to see was a close up of the interior panel!
You're correct. I only had one chance.
Mine broke too. It’s just an old pos Ford
What kind of super glue did you use? Mine broke the exact same way
Did u figure something out?
Any Superglue will work
I'm sorry your video was not helpful. You couldn't see the last part of the video. Camera work was terrible. You couldn't see how the cable pin fits into the hole and you couldn't see how the spring was reattached.
@@RobertSauls sorry about that.
I hope you can find a better video to help you.
Se sentra la cámara si haces algo aslo bien
Omg mine broke too😅...and I dont have a clue what to do about it...I promise I will never buy another Ford again!
You have to replace the window regulator, it’s all one piece. I did the same... I’m about to epoxy it back in place.
My FORD is 18 years old. Shit Happens.
Fords are built to last, they're American made unlike foreign brands that'll have sorts of problems
Omg.. Ford is GOOD, don't say that 🤣 it's been good to me 18 yrs. First x anything breaks
jajajajaja
That is not safe... is better take out the door panel. Ibrake my door .
Hello
I disagree it’s unsafe. Good luck with your repairs
I removed the door panel. That did not help.
blah blah blah blah
Shit! It's broke!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The same thing happened to me and that is part of the window regulator. You can fix it with 2 screws and a drill
That's what I get for asking a young teenager to assist. I thought it would be a good learning experience. I did fix it, just don't remember how.
