The whole reason it was lowered to 18 was because troops could die in war but couldn’t vote for the person who sends them to war until 21, so they lowered it to 18.

No, this is about the maturity to make life-altering decisions for other people. If you are mature and responsible enough to vote, you are mature and responsible enough to carry a pistol. The people advocating this, are specifically targeting the immaturity and irresponsibility of teenagers, who can be manipulated by telling them theyll get to remain an irresponsible teenager forever, on their parents' dime.

I don't understand Nancy... most 16 year olds are not into politics. Wtf is she talking about? I know I wasn't and infact I didn't know any other 16 year olds who were. I know some are but the vast majority aren't and wouldn't vote based on logic and policies but rather who is more popular or who their friends and family are voting for or even who their favorite actor or musician tells them to vote for. Hello F&F, here's an FYI for you ... drivers licenses are DIFFERENT all over the country! Especially in rural areas! When I was young (granted a long time ago it was) ONE city in my birth state you had to be 18 to get a permit & operators license. However, in my area (the entire rest of the same state) I could get a "farm permit" to drive between family owned farm plots/fields/barns/etc. at 14!, and a full license to drive during the day at 16! What state was that? Midwest, deep south states maybe? Nope. NEW YORK STATE! In 1965! Also the LEGAL drinking age (except in the NYC area - where it was 21) was 18. The state big wigs back THEN felt if you were old enough to DIE for your country, you should be able to have a legal beer in it! Later on, the nationwide voting age was changed to 18 - MOSTLY for the same reason, but not so the drinking age!
If Sweet Sixteen came about: Register for military draft male/female without exception regardless of all future scholastic ambitions, lower drinking age to 16, lower unsupervised driving to 16, allow all mind-altering drugs, allow marriages, allow paternity suits and divorce payments, and the list goes on and on.
Meanwhile it took Vietnam and the high death tolls of our military to lower the voting age from 21 to 18; the idea was if you can die to defend your country you should be able to vote in your country.

What is your age of consent in America, does this mean you will join Australia to 16 but you only vote at 18 and it is compulsory and you get funded if you do not vote.

All should have to take a test, like a college acceptance test for a Masters Program, before voting and all candidates and voters need to take responsibility, as anyone in their own lives, for all failures and monetary losses!
