  • Hello there! We are Charly and Pepa from the Canary Islands. We have always dreamed of traveling across Europe in a camper van, visiting small villages, meeting the locals, camping in forests, and visiting cultural sites in the big cities. Our good friends, Jose and Marga, from Malaga in Spain, were generous enough to lend us their precious van. They have worked on it for years, making it like a little house to take with them anywhere with their two little children Noah and Maya. They dearly loved and cared about their mobile home with such pride, but they did not hesitate to lend it to us with a big heart. We were so appreciative to get the van for our dream holidays across Europe. We were so excited! We made sure to be extremely careful to respect every space in the van. We knew how loved this van was for Jose, Marga, and their children.
The trip kicked off in Spain, and we were lucky to travel through the Balkans for the first time. We had the best time trying new cuisines, talking with the locals, and opening our minds to new cultures, music, and the flavor of each place we visited. So far, it was the most amazing time of our lives. Our last stop before returning home was Italy. We had arts in school, and one big dream was to visit the Sistine Chapel. On April 29th, we arrived and parked the van within the Vatican walls, only a few meters away from the Vatican site. After our visit, on our way back, the van was gone! It has been stolen! We were absolutely heartbroken because we knew how much this van meant to Jose and his family. It was the worst feeling to have to communicate this news to them. When I called Jose, he thought it was a joke at first, and then he was speechless and hung up the phone. I can’t blame him. He was totally devastated. I felt horrible!
Pepa and I went to the embassy for help, filed a report with the police, and spent the next three days going around in a taxi, including the ghetto areas, to see if we could spot the van. We couldn’t rent a car without our ID/passport even if we showed them the embassy’s paper. We spent all our cash in our failed attempt to rescue the van. Unfortunately, we had to return home without the van and all our things in it, such as our work laptops, wallets, money, passports, clothes, and pretty much everything we owned. All our life possessions were pretty much in that van. It is incredible how humble this experience can change your perspective. Now, I can start from scratch, and that’s fine, but we are committed to getting a van camper to Jose’s family first.
We would love to have the money to buy a new van, but the truth is that we live cheque to cheque, and we cannot afford it. The van costs 30,000 euros, so we are raising the money to buy one. We ask you if you can spare any money to help us raise the money. We will be eternally grateful! I cannot express how much this would mean to us. We will inform you each step of the way until the full amount is raised, and all the van details will be surely shared with you. So far, we have raised 1000 euros and hope to achieve the full amount with the generosity of our community.
If you can help us with any amount, even if it is small, it will mean the world to us! Please send me a DM if you would like to join our efforts to get the new van for our dear friends Jose and Marga from Malaga. We would be most, most, most grateful! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! With much love, Charly, Pepa, Jose, and Marga and their children Noah and Maya.
