NPR, is there any chance we can have this, and other Tiny Desks, available on Spotify? The Sound Engineering is top tier and some of these performances are really unique, it's a shame they are limited to RUclips. Would be a real treat 🤍
Finally a drummer plays the fcking drums on a tiny desk concert! And with a masterful touch throughout. Happened one other time from my memory. THANK YOU Mr. Waits
This was amazing. Jazz, I feel, is a particular genre that suits NPR like a satin glove. Now all we need is a pure improv session, like a: Makaya Mccraven set. And we’ll be shot through the stratosphere. Jazz needs the love, and representation❣️
I have been watching Tiny Desk for many years and you have introduced me to so much great music. But this Christian McBride set stands out as one of the best. Fantastic! Thanks for doing what y’all do.
Yazzzzzz!!!!!! Legend of our instrument. 🤘💙 to this day, I love playing his arrangement of “Stars Fell On Alabama” on upright. I appreciate the Twitter reference. I quit the platform for good in April of this year. I have no other social media. Put the phone down, and let life groove.
Now this concert is simply such a lot of fun. It's rather simple: you take four guys and let them play ... Only problem is they have to be really, really good, they have to listen to each other, they have to be on a very high level and - they have to have Christian as the leader ... Maybe a very tough call, but the result here is excellent. What a great band - Thank you very much! As always, a big thank you to the sound engineers and of course to Bob and his crew.
Strickland makes me want to buy a bass clarinet so bad. Bennie maupin, Eric Dolphy, and Marcus Strickland have to be some of the most killing to ever play it
Thanks for including these excellent musicians in your presentations. Their talent & playing is fire. Drummer Watts is just stellar. Love me some New Jawn.
Oh what a pleasure! What a group of masters, so good! I first encountered CMB when he was playing with the much missed George Duke Trio, and for me the Zappa-esque improvisations they did with Ronald Bruner Jr. tie well into this composed, but very organic rhythm-changing… this is an absolute delight! Thank you so much!
geez I have never been able to connect with this kind of music...it all just sounds so chaotic to me yet people seem to love it, I really wish I could get into it. It starts really grooving then it is like it derails for me.
This is a great set. I saw CMcB play a more traditional quartet show @ Yoshi's in Oakland several years ago. But I like this better. It's fresh and ya that drummer slays.
LOL. But seriously, for Final Fantasy + jazz + clarinet, you might like to check out The Consouls’ cover of Celes Theme (all their other FF jazz covers have sax or guitar). Their other vgm jazz covers are also a blast.
Christian is a legend. He was the main Bass guy with Pat Metheny for many years. Smooth!!! Very much more funky than his work with Metheny. Like Old School West Coast Jazz
2:23: love the guide dots on the neck of one of the preeminent jazz bassists of this decade. Now I feel better about the very subtle ones I did for ‘frets’ five seven nine on the side of my own bass lol

I like most of these better than the studio versions tbh.
They should just launch their own streaming service. No need for Spotify.
Didn’t there used to be an NPR music app ? Can’t remember now but I swear there was 🤔
Post-covid era, I'm finding the vocals quieter than before. I thought they were perfect before, but now get a little drowned out. Is it just me?
Do you mean, like, RUclips music ? 🙃
McBride...The MAN!! Seen him live a bunch. Met him and Ray Brown at Jazz Alley back in the day. Thank you for the music
Finally a drummer plays the fcking drums on a tiny desk concert! And with a masterful touch throughout. Happened one other time from my memory. THANK YOU Mr. Waits
The worst feeling is getting an ad break mid-song when the groove is stanking at its peak 🥲
Aaaargh….it happened again!
Put a " - " (dash) between the t and the u in the address bar and hit enter.
Christian McBride is easily one of my favorite composers out there right now. Unreal.
This was amazing. Jazz, I feel, is a particular genre that suits NPR like a satin glove. Now all we need is a pure improv session, like a: Makaya Mccraven set. And we’ll be shot through the stratosphere. Jazz needs the love, and representation❣️
Unbelievable how hip and relevant Mr McBride keeps on being... NPR, bravo!

Jazz was, Jazz is, Jazz will ever be.
Slay. Showing this to my students today.

You might want to look up my friend and colleague Randy McKean he also plays a contra alto clarinet for a bit now.
YEAH!❤ High level improvised music for soul & heart & mind with groove. Vitamin jazz for a gooood day.
This drummer 🔥🔥🔥
Brilliant band, the interplay between Nasheet and Christian is telepathic
If the last number isn't an indication, I don't know what is.
6:54 Prime
11:30 drum solo 🥁 (Prime)
14:24 Walkin' Funny 🚶
17:18 bass solo (Walkin' Funny)
Mr McBride is one of the most efficient bassists this planet has ever seen. His Live at the Tonic album remains a fusion classic!
Thanks for including these excellent musicians in your presentations. Their talent & playing is fire. Drummer Watts is just stellar. Love me some New Jawn.
Love the bass clarinet! Ooooooh yeah!
Oh what a pleasure! What a group of masters, so good! What a band! Superb sound...all without keys too!
what a terrific show. wow. love the variety of music you showcase
Saw them perform earlier this year and I truly appreciated it 💓
Perfection Brother! Awesome Bass Clarinet, and Trumpet Amazing Drum solo! Walking Funny is so on point! 😂❤! Nice borrowed Bass! Love you Sir ❤️🙏❤️
Josh Evans sounds incredible on this definitely gonna go back and transcribe some stuff he's playing.
THIS!! ALL OF THIS!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
geez I have never been able to connect with this kind of music...it all just sounds so chaotic to me yet people seem to love it, I really wish I could get into it. It starts really grooving then it is like it derails for me.
Maybe our comments should be articulate briefly then gibberish for a while.
The best thing Christian's ever done IMO. Saw them at the end of March in Geneva, NY. A fantastic night!
you need to put these on spotify!! I wiuld stream these everyday!!!
King Rogosin delivers a mix to sustain his people, yet again!
Evans is at his best this group, Evans and Strickland make great sounds together. McBride and Waits are peerless.
"Jawn" legendary Philly term.
The universal pronoun
Represent !!!
This was such a high level of jazz through and through! Love the crazy time changes in "Walking Funny".
Absolutely 100% greatness. I've only listened to this once, so that could be an underestimation.
Agree - and I haven’t even finished watching yet!
So hip- what a great gift this morning
Soon as I click I heard "Hot Lips Hannigan -The Flintstones: Season 1, Episode 2" You guys are groovy!
Just marvelous, all star lineup! Great job guys
Nasheet "Sheet" Waits still killin' it! Funky and fun as ever!
This is a great set. I saw CMcB play a more traditional quartet show @ Yoshi's in Oakland several years ago. But I like this better. It's fresh and ya that drummer slays.
You better play those drums. 🥁👏👏👏
love these guys
The sound quality is amazing
That’s Tiny Desk for ya.
One of my favorite albums this year
The mind of McBride when creating music is phenomenal 🙌🏾
They are tight. That Josh Evans is no joke.
His playing on George Duke's Face the Music album was amazing, especially "Ten Mile Jog"!! Christian is a beast!!!
My fav
At first, thought I was listening to the soundtrack of The Incredibles movie. Quality sound 👏🏽
Merveille !!!!!! Merci !!!!
Ad break before the turnaround in the blues is hilarious
Wow! Thanks for posting this.
Tiny Desk Team, thank you for your amazing work!
I thoroughly enjoyed this song!❤
"Walkin' Funny" is hilarious, with the changing tempos and rhythms, captures the description of the tipsy person perfectly!
Walkin' Funny is sooooo Dolphy. Love it.
Excellent reference - I agree - you can hear the spirit of Eric Dolphy "walkin" thru the piece.
prove it@@anthonysantiagomd8292
Amazing set
Reminds me of The Dave Holland Quartet's Conference Of the Birds (which is a desert island disc for me). Stellar.
What a great tune "walking funny" is! Well done!
Best tiny desk yet!
Great vibe! Also, Mr. Marcus Strickland looks like a Final Fantasy series character.
LOL. But seriously, for Final Fantasy + jazz + clarinet, you might like to check out The Consouls’ cover of Celes Theme (all their other FF jazz covers have sax or guitar). Their other vgm jazz covers are also a blast.
@@cooldebt Thank you for the sugestion 🙏🏻
Wonderful

Excellent!!
Cool Christian's colors are the same as bass' body and fingerboard!
how super exciting to get a notification that includes both "Tiny Desk Concert" and "Christian McBride" wow
Wow! A fully ripe and wonderful groove!
Christian is a legend. He was the main Bass guy with Pat Metheny for many years. Smooth!!! Very much more funky than his work with Metheny. Like Old School West Coast Jazz
Never seen fret markers on an upright bass before. They look cool whether or not they are functional
Love this so much!!!!
This is BEYOND cool 🧊
What a line up 🔥🔥🔥
Gotta love youtube subtitles. “The great ‘now she waits’ on the drums”. 😂
It’s like that time when Rick Beato was talking about ‘Prague rock’ 😅

Funkkkkkyyyyy 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Big cats at it 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
What do I know, but this sounds very 60’s influenced to me. However you describe it, it was hot and I’m getting the album!
Sweet
At 8:46 the trumpet player uses some interesting dynamics that sounded super cool :)
