- These are the extras included in The Story of Wish You were Here 2012 Dvd. Coming soon, the entire documental. Bonus material includes Waters and Gilmour performing excerpts from Wish You Were Here. Also featured are talks with sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover "burning man" Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album. In addition, original recording engineer Brian Humphries revisits the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios to illustrate aspects of the songs' construction.

I find it hard for Nick Mason to feel serendipitous to find his place in Pink Floyd. He was and is there because of his skill... omg, the man is flawless in his execution! A true master, he is.
Pink Floyd took me trough a Spiritual Journey within Rock and Roll era .....that was needed so i could kind of refull to go further.......

Any PF fan knows that this is the way of Roger's singing any song. Don't flame him, he is a great musician.
When Waters and Gilmore parted ways and Gilmore came out with what he called Pink Floyd albums such as A Momentary Lapse of Reason, the thing that has always been missing--of course other than Waters's brilliant lyrics-- but also his cynicism that was a constant thread through all of the (true) Pink Floyd music. Gilmore was never The lyricist that Waters was; but then Roger Waters couldn't really sing so well. They needed each other, all of them. I don't know what the real story is behind the rift but it's sad they never could put it behind them except for that one last performance of Live Aid.
I would probably call Roger closer to realism than cynicism. But ROger actually used to be a decent singer, he sang on MOST of Animals and after. He's certainly not a good singer now, but here he doesn't really try 'that' hard. He does actually have a good country voice in this, but you can see where he kind of backs out of singing and basically just says the lines.
But I'd argue about Momentary Lapse. Dogs of War, One Slip, and Sorrow are ALL more cynical and depressing than Roger was. I'd heard they WANTED them that depressing in order to sound like Roger. I'd even heard David did'nt want Learning to Fly on there because it was 'too poppy' and likely to be a hit, which it was.
Meanwhile if you listen to "the powers that be' its hard not to see that as realism rather than cynicism. BOTH of those are great if only for the fact you look at Genesis and Yes and Peter Gabriel and by then almost everybody was putting out poppy crap. ONLY Pink Floyd and Roger Waters were painting the Eighties as they actually were.
The rift was basically Roger thought the band was done, Dave and Nick disagreed, so we get two different bands.

What is missing ? Wish you were here sounds like Roy Harper altogether with the lyrics and guitar style. I think his contribution towards the album is being understated. My theory is that the clue is in Wish You Were Here , was also the current album title by Bad Finger who were being screwed over by their management. They had done lengthy and lucrative tours of the states and sold records and yet they were told they were on their arses and that their nice rock star houses were being repossesed along with their pregnant wives. So one of them hanged himself to escape the hell he was going through. Now juxtapose that with what Gilmore saying about the negativity in the industry was the truth and what Waters is saying is just a load of bs. Sorry.
