    Great option. I attend several events where they have a section where you can run your generator 24/7 as they don't have any hookups so this is an awesome set up. Also I know that one of those six gallon tanks its also available as a system that allows to easily refuel from your towing vehicle if your towing vehicle runs on gas. I think that option is great as it allows you a quick source for extra gas without having to drive to a gas station.

    Nice instruction video. Watch you and Heidi often. Do you know if this setup will work on a Generac portable 3000? Also, is it safe to operate a gender underneath a slide? I would like to, because of rain, but I am concerned about fumes finding a way through the rubber seals on our 5th wheel. Thanks for any comments.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 года назад

      Not really sure about the Generac. The only reason is they cap is very specific for the whole system to work and not all generators have the same type of gravity feed. Meaning that they may not be able to draw the fuel from any distance and the last thing you want to do is put the fuel above the carburetor as the needle and seat might not be able to hold the additional pressure a fuel being elevated above it. The exhaust was actually hanging a bit outside of what would be considered under the RV. However, we had 4 days of West to East Winds when we did this video so I knew that the exhaust will continue to travel away from the RV. I don't know if I would suggest running a generator underneath the RV necessarily. They do make a kit called a genTuri that does allow the exhaust to be routed up and away from the RV. Sorry I don't have definite answers for your situation but really appreciate you staying on with us in watching our videos! Thanks!

    Nice video. I was wondering how long the seal on your extended run gas cap lasted you? They seem to fall apart very quickly and hard-to-find

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  2 года назад

      The seal was fine on the cap and I didn't have any issue but I did have a problem with the threads of the cap causing the plastic to leak. What I mean is it was losing vacuum past the threads because I had over tightened it a couple of times. What I had to do there is Place aluminum foil around threads. So I guess I did have a problem with the seal because I couldn't tighten the lid down tight enough to seal the rubber against the opening.

    When I saw the Honda under the slide, my first thought was is if you've had the recall done. If you bought it recently I am sure its been fixed from the factory, both of mine needed to go to the shop. The new fuel switch leaked on a couple and could catch fire. Our mechanic told me of the 250,000 sold at the time, only 9 had the issue, but it only takes one catching on fire to ruin your day. I used the magnetic dipstick on each break-in period and it was surprising how much it caught since there is no oil filter on these things. I have been thinking on these extended tanks, did you already do a video on it and I missed it?

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  5 лет назад +1

      Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, me being a light sleeper, multiple fire extinguishers on board. I'm sure I would have caught that. If not that's why we have two doors on RV. LOL yeah they extended tank video was of course this video.

  • @dominodoggy1
    @dominodoggy1 4 года назад

    I just drain the carb into a little cup and pour it back into the gas tank. Prevents having to waste fuel letting the fuel run out with the shutoff. There’s a tiny slotted cap screw at the bottom of the carb and a plastic drain tube. Just open the maintenance cover and open the carb drain and pour it back into the tank!

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  4 года назад

      The problem with that is trying to make sure that the device that you're draining into stays extremely clean so the fuel does not get contaminated as you pour it back in. usually what happens is the cap or Cup that you catch your fuel in has tendency to have debris or dust in it and then at that point it gets back into the carburetor then it has gas problems

    @RVdaydream Hey appreciate your videos and going thru the real world reviews on these generators. Was curious when you switched from champion to the honda why didnt you get the 2200 with the duel fuel for propane. Reason I ask Is I prefer the propane and with higher gas prices its almost the same price now.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  2 года назад +2

      The propane doesn't have the same BTU as gasoline... Therefore propane may cost less per gallon but it also doesn't allow the same wattage output and it doesn't run as long on the same amout...

    • @PatrickPrice-ny2ie

      @@RvdaydreamYes & no, generators run best when loaded at 80%. If a typical AC unit pulls 1500 watts & the generator is rated 2200 watts running on LP with generator putting 1800 watts it doesn't matter. 300 watts is left over for other potential loads.

    I intent to replicate the same set up but I have a question: Don’t you need to set theextented fuel tank up higher than the generator in order for the fuel to feed the generator? did it worked for you to have the tank down on the ground? Would you Please let me know? The reson I am asking is that my generator has a gentent over it and there is no room for the extented tank to fit under the tent, I like to have it on the ground, will it work? Thanks

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 года назад

      Whatever you do, don't set the gas tank higher than the generator as there is a chance that the additional gravity pressure of all that fuel will not be held back by the needle and seat attached to the carburetor float and you could run into a flooding situation which could result in fire. Especially if the tank becomes heated by the Sun and expands to put even more pressure into the carburetor than what it can handle. These Honda generators, in addition to a few others, have the ability to draw fuel through a vacuum process that allows the gas tank to be at level with the generator itself. But it can't necessarily draw the fuel from the gas tank if it is lower than the generator. That's why I did not try to build the kit myself as people have already done the engineering work figuring out which way is best 2 utilize what the generator can do and make a kit that applies those principles. For example the kit that I have in the link in the description has very nice high quality marine grade certified fuel hose end quick disconnect ends that have spring loaded stainless steel check balls that stops the fuel from coming out when disconnected. I want even know where the source that kind of stuff in that kind of quality. I know it's expensive but you definitely get what you pay for and in this case you get a lot. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    The EU 2200 is definitely silent, but his GX 120 engine has a oil runner timing belt. This one dissolves after a few years. I rather would pick a generator without this rim, for example the Yamaha EF2000i.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  5 месяцев назад

      I couldn't tell you. The fact that I was running that micro Air Easy start changes so much of how the air condition works as far as draw goes during startup and as the night got cooler of course the air would run differently. The only way you're going to know if it's going to work the way you want it to with your setup is by hooking it up to your setup. There's so many things that come into play, altitude, Ambient Air Temperature, fuel temperature, octane rating, hours of run time on the generator, the refrigerators Ambient Air temperature, just too many things to consider.

      It might do it a couple times but as soon as it got warm.... Nope. The Honda generators can handle a decent Peak Spike but as the air conditioners run their efficiency gets worse and their startup requirements draw higher amperage then when they are first used at startup.

    What size ac window unit you think this can run? And also lights and tv too?? Where do you get the extra gas tank from? Does Honda sell it special for this generator? Or is it a universal one? I take it this generator wouldn’t be able to run a central air system in a house? Even if you do the pairing with another generator?

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 года назад

      You can pair the generators up and of course they will run more. The extended gas tank is linked in the description. It all depends on how efficient the window air conditioner is. If you go to Walmart and buy one of their cheap 5000 BTU air conditioners you should have no problem. You may be able to get away with as much as 9000 BTU but as far as running other items at the same time it all depends on amp draw. You may want to Google what I can run with my generator and there's usually charts that you can follow. It's all about amperage and the thing is the air conditioners may run on a lower amperage but the startup amperage is what causes the problem when the compressor First kicks on and then Cycles on and off throughout the years of the AC unit. There's no hard fast answer you just have to experiment with what you're wanting to do. The best thing about it is this generator is the best that you can buy in the compact Size Market. The next best in the next bigger size is the Honda 3000 is.

    wanted to know your opinion.
    i did not install Micro easy start on my 13.500 AC unit instead i tried paralleling 2 Honda inverters eu2000i and eu1000i the eu1000 i borrowed from my friend.
    i used a heavy wire with 2 male connectors between them. everything was on in trailer battery charger that charges my 2 batteries, about 5 LED lights. the setup ran the AC without any issues, i let it run for about an hour both inverters on eco mode on. i'm wondering if this setup does anything to the inverters in the long run since they are different wattage.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  5 лет назад

      I remember that before the EU 2200 came out Honda brag that you could basically parallel any of the EU units with any other EU unit. It seems to me though I just recently read that the EU 2200 could only be paralleled with another EU 2200?!. I'm not sure about that but I don't see where there would be a problem as long as they're all Honda branded. Best thing to do is call Honda the see what they suggest.

    • @JM-nh8yp

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 года назад

      Yes the older Hondas allowed for them to be paralleled with pretty much any other Honda from that same era. There were a series of eu2000i and I believe eu1000 that were late in their production that would allow them to be paralleled with the EU 2200 but you would have to contact Honda for the serial number list to make sure that it would work.

    I have the exact same generator, the same outboard fuel container, the same hose connections. But it won’t draw fuel from the tank. The only difference in my set up is I have a primer bulb and a glass filter. There are no leaks in the hose or connections and the fuel cap will when unscrewed will let off pressure. I do have the vent open on the outboard fuel tank. I have filled the generator fuel tank to the very top lip and it will run fine but won’t draw any fuel. There is no blockages in the lines as fuel will run out of the cap when I check.
    Any ideas?

Honda's are great product; but I do not use mine that much. Maybe ~20 hours a season at most, for the last 4 years. They've had theirs a lot longer and have little to no issues. We all use straight gas, non- ethanol and change the oil regularly. One of them has a residential refer and uses an extended tank. Powers his refer all week on one tank with ease. The rest of us use ours mostly to charge our batteries.

      A few of the generators inverters that are being made out there like this Honda generator have the ability to vacuum fuel over a distance. It's not a fuel pump. It's all done by airtight gas cap that has a check ball built into it.

      Should be both ground or same level... Like in the thumbnail photo... The more expensive kit I have linked in the description has low pressure check valves inline to help with suction being maintained make sure both valves are moving freely ... There cannot be any loss of seal at the generators gas cap make sure its a nice tight seal .... Finally, make sure no gasoline had accidentally entered into the supply tank cap as it has a finicky one way valve in it that allows for air to go in as the fuel is sucked out... Make sure it is in the open position and you "depress" it a few times to ensure it is fully open and free to pull air in...

      Well, I guess if you put it down in the mud and sand there's a chance that the cooling intake that's on the bottom side of the generator would pull in just that. However, since this was being tested in a lawn that does not have any of those horrible characteristics it is just fine. This was just a test. We ended up mounting this set up in a generator box on a cargo tray mounted on our rear RV bumper. To your point, the test did not also show it being tested in a lake, nor at the beach, nor in a snowstorm and a variety of other hazards that anybody that would want to run a generator in should see failure relatively quick.

      I would definitely run two of the Hondas paired. I would rather have extra power for other things. I know you can run the AC off of one but I don't like being somewhat close to the max draw on things.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  3 года назад +2

      It's not at the Max draw. Using the micro Air Easy starts, the startup amperage is ramped up slowly for the compressor and only Peaks out at roughly 13 amps. And of course once running hovers around 11 amps. And that is for the 15000 BTU air conditioner. In boondocking situations I rarely find a need to run both rooftop air conditioners at the same time unless it's extremely hot then all bets are off and of course at that point you would have to run both of the Hondas. But to carry an extra 45 pounds and have to invest another $1,100 for just that scenario doesn't necessarily work out unless you plan on boondocking a lot in hot weather or you have a tendency to forget to turn off your air conditioner when you turn on your microwave. I think most people know how to manage their power and take when running just one smaller generator.

    • @JM-nh8yp
      @JM-nh8yp 3 года назад

      @@Rvdaydream I understand that you have the softstart installed. I wasn't talking about you being at the max amps. I said that "I" dont like to be close to the max amps. Since I like to run more things without watching amps so closely. Personally I see no reason not to run a pair of gently used Hondas for $700. Two nice used Hondas can be had for less than the price of one new generator. That also gives me the ability to power more things at home if the power goes out or whatever. Thats just what works better for me.

But at the cost of higher Fuel and less power it doesn't work for my situation as I am using everything that the 2200 offers to run my rooftop AC unit. To put a different fuel source on and make the output more diminutive would cause issues.
