i find it funny that this series a low ground clearance was a bad thing but in later wars with chaos 2, dantomkia and bigger brother around it was a nessecity
First time I ever saw Rex Garrod was in The Secret Life Of...series with Tim Hunkin. I remember his story about setting to work on a watch with a hot scalpel and replacing a battery that wasn't designed to be replaced. Then he said, ''The next day, the strap broke and I had to throw it away''.
Rex Garrard is one of Robot Wars' early greats, Cassius went through the Gauntlet within a blink of an eye! Sir Killalot must've tried to forget Groundhog after that epic fall, Sting has a lush design. I like how the Gauntlet was restructured a bit every heat in this series
Graham Bone! That's the firestorm driver! This is why revisiting is so fun, you completely forget some of the crap later stars entered with, it is rare to be an instant hit with a robot like Hypnodisc.
Groundhog nearly dragged Killalot over - who would have known that they would later build Firestorm, and become the only robot to flip Mr Psycho over!!!
Fun fact, Cassius wasn't the first bot with a srimech, only the first in UK competition. The first ever was Biohazard, which righted in 1996. Second ever was Vlad the Impaler, one year later.
To Rex Garrod: 'Do you think you can do better this time?' RECYCLOPSE GOT TO THE FUCKING FINAL right, I've decided that for whatever reason, the producers HAD to be masking everything to make it look like Roadblock VS. Killertron was the grand final fight.
Why does Philippa keep insisting on saying "face annihilation from the sphere" every single time? It's a frickin' ball...just a large, metal ball, that's ALL it is. If she actually pointed out that it would be an interference or a blockage, rather than specifically state that it could actually damage a robot, I wouldn't have that problem. But then, Series 2 in general had far bigger problems.
Why would they mention in the introductions that Rex Garrod has built Tellytubby toys and not that he built the TV character Brum, or even Grand Finalist Recyclopse in the 1st Wars...? Yeah Phillipa, "the SPHERE" is a really threatening hazard. That's why you, an ordinary young woman, can send it rolling with 1 hand. This is pretty much a 1-robot heat, Cassius is the only real contender; the only other robots of any relevance are Groundhog and Sting, and that's more because they would eventually lead to Firestorm and S3 (which a lot of people forget was short for Sting 3). Great to see Killalot toppled by Groundhog, although it was mainly because Killalot was already tipping forward thanks to being on the ramp. A foreshadowing of Firestorm vs Mr Psycho in the Commonwealth Carnage, perhaps?
+ArcaneAzmadi A foreshadowing would imply that it was all planned :-P That's definitely not the case. Looking back now, a lot of this seems tame, but at the time with what they had some of it was really quite tricky. Oh, and pushing at the top the ball is easy as it gives much better leverage, where as pushing from the bottom where the robots are takes more effort.
RIP Rex Garrod. Thanks for entertaining us, and also for all of your contributions to the advancement of robot combat.
He was from Stonemarket in Suffolk.
Watching this in tribute to Rex Garrod. RIP.
RIP to one of the biggest personalities in Robot Wars. He will be missed.
Happy to take part in the tribute to the great man.

Cassius was 2nd in series 2.

Ahh, I remember this one so well, my second favourite episode from Series 2
Graham Bone! That's the firestorm driver! This is why revisiting is so fun, you completely forget some of the crap later stars entered with, it is rare to be an instant hit with a robot like Hypnodisc.
geeze XD hahaha poor ole Killalot xD haha i cant even describe how much groundhog weighs probbly the only robot heavy enough to topple killalot LOL.
Did not know that Groundhog team was the Firestorm team.
Crazy to think that Sting eventually became S3.
Semi finalist twice S3.
I would like to thank Graham Bone and Alex Mordue for inventing the omni directional wheel. It's come quite in handy for our VEX robotics team.
Alex Mordue lost his place to Hazel Heslop in series 6, Hazel married Graham Bone in 2003!.
Groundhog nearly dragged Killalot over - who would have known that they would later build Firestorm, and become the only robot to flip Mr Psycho over!!!
10:35
"What's your job on the team?"
9 year-old Marcus: "Tactician"
"And what does that mean?"
"Working out tactics"
Aww, bless.
@ 8:53 the Groundhog team getting a Standing ovation
+StFidjnr LOL and with epicness. The only one that toppled Killalot XD
+FLAME4564 4 series later they got BIGGER fish to fry (as far as toppling a house robot)
Fun fact, Cassius wasn't the first bot with a srimech, only the first in UK competition. The first ever was Biohazard, which righted in 1996. Second ever was Vlad the Impaler, one year later.
Cassius was 2nd in series 2.
7:57-First time Sir Killalot gets toppled! Take that, Killalot!
That was awesome.
It's funny, a lot of these heats seem to consist of:
1. one robot i've actually heard of
2. 5 robots i've never heard of
I wonder who wins?
+CaruCath97 Well if you pay attention to the roboteers instead of the robots you should recognise the Groundhog team from later wars at least.
I did (I actually had no idea they went on to make Firestorm!) It's like how Chaos 2 is a lot more well known than Chaos (or Robot the Bruce).
Tbh I only pay attention to the robots lol
cough cough cassius cough cough
Killalot PWNED!!
@ 8:53 the Groundhog is gonna get a Standing ovation
looks like lister's stunt double there pulling killalot back up
Groundhog kill Killalot
Firestorm kill Mr Psycho
Truly sensational
lol at that guy with "these wheels are the future". Phillipa probably does know a lot about being sideways though
hah and that was the same reason why it was first called Groundhog xD after they left killalot grounded xD
1:31: YESSS!
Groundhog... nice idea, but Graham and Alex found their pace later on...
Rex Garrod used to buid Telitubby toys. Hilarious.
To Rex Garrod: 'Do you think you can do better this time?'
RECYCLOPSE GOT TO THE FUCKING FINAL
right, I've decided that for whatever reason, the producers HAD to be masking everything to make it look like Roadblock VS. Killertron was the grand final fight.
rex garrod possibly made the most history in robot wars robots wise
1st flipper robot & 1st robot to self right

7:32 omni wheels have existed for years...
Why would they mention in the introductions that Rex Garrod has built Tellytubby toys and not that he built the TV character Brum, or even Grand Finalist Recyclopse in the 1st Wars...?

I LOVE BRUM!
Cole003f-Cassius is not the first flipping robot, there ancestor, recyclopes, was
Sting later became S3
7:51
I know.
I Will find groundhog and loco of Google And Cassius is recyclopse and rampage is slow.
am i the only one whom realized that she rolled steel ball off towards Matilda? who stopped it??
@Rattlesnakemeuk
Matthew*
Robot on small furniture wheels has 1,5 ton lifting arm ! Are they joking ? Is Newton 3rd. law of motion part of UK education ??
A new comment enters the arena
