  • Welcome to Tulsa Tough 2023. This is day 2 - the Art’s District Criterium, Masters 40+. Another P22 finish from a field of 113 on the day. There is a crash at min 18:32 that happened right in front of me and I somehow avoided. I took the free lap (a first for me) and rejoined the group. If anything, watching today’s video I can see just how tentative I was. Sounds easy to fix right, just be more assertive…keep watching to see how I develop this year.

    What’s the rule with a free lap? Does it need to be a mechanical or crash?

    • @zehrg722
      @zehrg722  Год назад +2

      If you have a mechanical in the race you can take a free lap (most but not all mech issues). Also, if you are involved in a crash or in my case, behind a crash and disrupted by it. You can go to the pit for a free lap. In the video you can hear me tell the official when I arrive, that I was behind the crash. It is always helpful to them to tell them why you are there.

    I think my friend Luke won that when he was 17 or 18.

      You mean the Luke that has won 3 straight US Pro National Championships and is only 20? Yeah, he won the race last year for sure. What a talent.

    Geez...do they not ride bikes in Cleveland? You just simply can't do that!

    You could have really moved up at 5:42. You were coasting at low watts.

    U got lucky. USA Cycling free lap rules state that for a free lap a "rider should experience a Significant delay/stoppage (impeded) due to mass crash or road blockage (See Impeded below)": examples mentioned include "Riders that have been significantly delayed (having to get off bikes, step over riders, forced detour off course to continue, etc.). may report for a free lap". Now, I've seen some riders deliberately crash into a bunch when they were dropped, so yours isn't the worst, BUT, your own video shows that nothing that meets those criteria happened to you. And, you were doing 6-700 watts on wheels, and in sight of the bunch when you pulled the plug, so another 5-10 seconds gets you back. But it sure looks like you saw pits and thought you'd take your chances. indeed, a "terrible move"
