Honestly i always thought the whole traitor thing for the Dark Angels stems around the fact that they were frequently putting their need to hide their shame of the fallen by hunting them over protectign the Imperium ect. I think the Angels of Darkness novel was the most interesting when the Interogator Chaplain Boreas puts together a final message to the chapter master basically saying that the fallen Merir Astelan was correct that the sons of the lion had become too obsessed with chasing down the fallen over thier duties to the imperium as whole.

by attempting to hide their supposed shameful history, they're just committing even more shameful acts. That's the word for it, shameful, not traitorous. Though that Custodian kill was an absolute cockup and probably deserving of at least five Big E super space spankings (for reference Magnus is owed at least fifty if he gets them on a good day)

They are doing %100 traitorous things and they are doing it all the time. If killing a Custodian Warden in the Imperial Palace isn't traitorous, NOTHING is. Even being inside the Palace without permission is called infiltration and if a soldier were to "infiltrate" his own country's military base and kill a general, they would be put on trial for treason. Not for shame. For treason.

It is interesting that the Dark Angels bear such shame for and trying desperately to hide something that happened 10,000 years before that saw half of the Dark Angels legion follow Luther and his cabal into betraying their Primarch. Meanwhile, the White Scars don't suffer from this same thing even though half of their legion betrayed the Khan. Granted the Fallen are still alive somewhere in the Galaxy, Warp, or timestream, while those traitor White Scars were formed up into suicide squads to regain their honor in death.

Keep in mind the unit of Dark Angels that killed the Custodian was not tasked by Azrael himself or any other high ranking officer in the chapter. They managed to get word of Cypher being in Terra and sunce they were near Terra the librarian decided to hunt him down.

I loved the dark angels for this. Killing a custode when it's very minimal for a space marine chapter to even have an opportunity to kill one.
I'm reminded of a short story in an old white dwarf from the early 2000's were a group of dark Angel's is running a gauntlet of xenos enemies(can't remember who they fought think maybe Orks or Tyranids...) to reinforce a unit of Guardsmen on the verge of being wiped out desperate for reinforcements. When they reach the loyalist base having lost one of their numbers their greeted be Soldiers who think they are finally saved. Then the darks angel captain see's they have Ogryns and Ratlings in their ranks and says the following: Brother Beknor did not give his alive to save these abominations(abhumans) come brothers we are leaving. And from there just you know fuck off to hunt more fallen or whatever.
It's got nothing on killing a Custodes but just goes to show the once proud knights of Caliban are now just a bunch of huge assholes who will let loyal Imperial Soldiers die because "Eww! Abhumans"
i can honestly tell you we are a member of the few factions if not the only Loyalist SM chapter that gets great lore in our codex's and additions but as soon as a black library writer gets involved we somehow do a 180 and get turned into the galaxy's biggest fucking joke on intelligence, like its so infuriating sometimes because the books never portray us like the codex tells us how we would and should act. its like dealing with a retarded two face.
I reckon Cypher can forest walk. It'd explain his escapes.

The Dark Angels really are one of the coolest loyalist legions in 30k and the stupidest loyalist chapters in 40k. If I ever collected Dark Angels they'd be 100% made up of the risen

The templar style knights of the 1st legion was what pulled me into 40k. many books later qnd they are still my favourite
The fallen is like the Black rage or red thirst for the blood angels or Wolfen for the Space Wolves something the chapter hides out of fear

Same take on the Dangels. They are my 4th favorite chapter for me yet are my favorite Legion.
I play a homebrew Dark Angels chapter on tabletop so I can have all the goodies of playing DA while making my own lore and aesthetic (mostly just 30k theme)
The Lion's got a lot of work to do ironing these guys out. I hope he manages it though because think of what the Dark Angels will be capable of if they get their priorities finally straightened out while being lead by their returned Primarch.

And about DA doing borderline heretical things: I've read about the situation where assault squad of DA attacked Astra Militarium mechanized company on a planet so irradiated that the only safe way to traverse its surface for normal humans was via transport vehicle. Dark Angels heard a rumor that one of the Fallen was with that company, so they started to rip open Chimeras just to look for him, dooming the soldiers, and at some point company commander ordered to shoot those marines, seeing them killing his soldiers for no apparent reason.
Damn! I hear this story for the firts time. Even i being DA, God this guys have no remorses.
But what happened after the commander ordered his soldiers to shot on DA marines? Don't tell me, that DA killed them all😢
@@vencislavgynev8282 if I remember correctly, none survived, and DA simply departed since there was no Fallen there. Since it was warzone, the destruction of that company was most probably blamed on those who Imperium was fighting there at the time.
With that said, they still need to PAY for killing a Custodian. You simply don't do that shit and expect to get away for long. They will have to make amends - directly to The Emperor - for that transgression.

There's a comic book series from a long time ago about the dark angels being found out by an inquisitor. I can't remember her name. They manage to trick a grey knight into killing her. Except she actually didn't die. One of the newer novels called Awakenings has her coming back. The comic books graphic novels are called the fallen, will of iron, and revelation.
Don't know how profitable it is, but if you dropped stuff like can koozies, more stickers, cups, shit like that I'd be placing an order that day

Naw, after watching Weshammer's video about the Alpha Legion, the Alpha Legion's various warbands are all traitors or at the very least renegades that are still waging a war against the Imperium that they no longer no why they even are waging such a war which is very much in line with the Alpha Legion.
@@captaincoolbreeze9429it's not particularly accurate, the primarch and the inner retinue of the actual alpha legion are loyalists, the warbands are not, but that's the case for every legion, the ultramarines have chaos warbands it doesn't make the ultramarines themselves traitors

The one thing that saved the Dark Angels from an ass whopping by Johnson was that Johnson fucked up himself badly during the Heresy. If he wouldn't have been such an idiot (literally giving away the ONE SINGULAR weapon that could kill Horus to an obviously traitorous Perturabo) he surely would have made an exemple of the Dark Angels.
