It was placed in the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater (Miami Beach - FL). The awards by itself was a hot and sexy Tongue with a MTV perching. Unfortunately those awards don’t exist anymore. During that first edition, The Rolling Stones started the transmition with a funny salutation video aimed to the hole Latin American continent and after that, Santana come out with this incredible song. Avril Lavigne won an award that night and she also had a performance during the night. I know all the details about it cause I was a huge fan of MTV at that time and I watched it in Venezuela (my home country) and I was in my teens (like 14 or 15) at that year. What a great show it was!

It was good the way she did it. She was 17, maybe 18 when she did this..voice not fully formed and singing on stage next to a legend. I'll give her space on this one. She has other live performances which might me better but her youthfulness, attitude, looks and voice were a perfect blend.
She was struggling with the earphone. I have seen some other live performances where she, again because of the earphone, is a bit in trouble while I have seen others where without earphone she sings very well. In fact, during this performance at a certain point we see that she probably turns it off from behind and in fact from that moment she sings much better.
someday I would like to see Santana playing this song with the person who wrote it, I mean Grag Alexander from the New Radicals, his band is responsible for me changing to alternative rock from metal or any hard rock from 80's haha
