Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals and charisma of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

who joined them at "the drop of a hat" to help out in their US Tour.
She had only been with them a few months,
she was introduced as a new voice at this Wacken Open Air concert in Germany.

the duet with the bass player is amazing,
then see Floor singing with the Dutch "Phantom",

Floor Jansen is an amazing and versitile vocalist, even beyond Nightwish. I highly recommend reacting to her performances on Beste Zangers (the long versions give you background on the artist/song before the performance, which makes it even more impactful, in my opinion). Winner, Shallow, Vilja Lied, Que Se Siente, and Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort are must watches, even if you don't do reaction videos :D

Great reaction and the first of many I hope. The Singer in this video was Floor Jansen the 3rd Nightwish singer and she had only been with the band for about 10 months at the time having had to take over from the previous sing at just 48 hours notice. This is 13 of a 15 song set when they headlined the 2013 Wacken Metal Festival in front of 82,000 people. The symphonic part in the middle (when you thought it had ended) was pre-recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's The Metro Voices choir group and the London Young Musicians Children's Choir who the band have been working with for over 20 years. EPIC! That's the word I think you are looking for there Joy-Jean, lol! Experiencing NW for the first time can be a little overwhelming. The tight and raw music combined with the angelic voice of Floor. The visuals of the massive audience loving the band, singing along with the brilliant lyrics from Toumas, sung by a 6 foot Goddess clad in all leather. EDIT: EMPRESS JOY-JEAN, this concert (Wacken 2013) is 100% Pure Gold. Gabriel has left you a detailed history of the band and "directions" on which direction to go from here. His recommendations are pure gold, too! No two songs from Nightwish sound alike, yet they have a sound that is unmistakable. That was Floor Jansen the 3rd Nightwish female vocalist.
She is from The Netherlands and joined Nightwish in 2012. She had been with Nightwish for 10 moths only at this Wacken 2013 concet.Tarja Turunen was the original female vocalist until 2005, (she is good too), followed by Anette Olzon 2007-2012, she is from Sweden.
Please continue reacting to Nightwish! It is an amazing band live. I think the Wacken audience knew how lucky they were to be there. It is difficult to get tickets to Wacken Open Air Festival.

Highly recommend that you continue exploring the 2013 Live Concert at Wacken. The band was never better than they were that night. Floor is always amazing but she particularly killed it at that concert! Also, whomever mixed the sound for that show was amazing... incredible sound to go along with an unbelievable stage performance. Try "Song of Myself" from that concert next.

Jean, welcome to the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredibly talented 3rd female vocalist Floor Jansen. At one point you probably had goosebumps all over your body, for example when she sang that high note, we, Nightwish fans, have renamed this into "having experience a Floorgasm" So welcome back in our midst, nothing to be ashamed of, we all have this experience over and over again when Floor achieves these high notes.

Another soul swept away by our Valkyrie goddess. Floor Jansen (pronounced Yan-sen) is the best female vocalist today. She can sing any style, any genre from opera to growling.
