Life as a follower of Jesus is by no means an easy one but it is a blessed one and it is the best one can have. Every trial has its purpose. His life is abundant for there is no greater feeling then to be used by God for His purposes.
Life is a difficult journey and especially following Christ. Everyone should always be ready and willing to change for the sake of their own salvation.

I believe that 34-37 is a provision for standing up against evil. The Lord showed this to me when leaving an abusive marriage...it was very difficult to reconcile divorce as a believer. However I learned through his love that God is a God of division when it comes to separating from evil.

A life of a follower of Jesus wasn’t meant to be easy. I find myself constantly trying to spread His word to others and sometimes the outcome is a wonderful and other times it can be a complete a miss.. depending on where the person is in their faith. Some people absolutely don’t want to talk about Jesus and others have a listening ear, seeking to know more. Spreading the word of God continues to be the only way of life for me to follow. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Him. So despite the ones that reject my message, the Lord still uses me to uses my testimony to minister to others. I will forever be an example despite who wants to listen or not🙏🏾❤️
I love how the purpose for being thrown in prison is listed as to be a witness. Can you imagine if we all saw the purpose for public trials (literal or figurative) as an opportunity for witness!?!
He brought me to this passage when i was debating online with people that came at me directly to persecute me for my beliefs. I prayed for wisdom. I definitely got it after reading this. Reassured me that it was normal. Taught me not to take it personal and when to step away.
I struggle saying I love anything over my children. I understand that God blessed me with them. I just can't grasp saying they're not the most important thing.

Thank you, for the content you share and to the commenters as well. I think one thing a lot of people don’t really talk about these days is how following Jesus, being a disciple of His, isn’t easy. It isn’t something that people preach about often.
I do feel like a follower of Jesus.

I am now 40 yrs old, have always believed in God, but for the first time, 2 weeks ago, I am beginning to read the Bible, which is why I am here, to get a better understanding of Matthew 10.

Something need to change
When family members abandon you because you are a Christian, it is hard. But I have another sister now . She is not my blood relative but a person i church. She is my sister now because she treats me like a brother. My 'real' sister, together with her daughter and also my half-sister have apparently decided in their hearts to treat me as if I do not exist. So my real sister is now a sister in the Lord. My gave I have a piano at her 6 years birthday, and I also started a savings account to her. That was back in 1997. I have heard absolutely nothing from her since that birthday. And I'm alone and they know that. For some straaaange reason, I have ceased to exist for the my sister, my niece, my half-sister and my sister's former husband. They hate me that much because I am a follower of Christ. Even your own family members will hate you for being a christian. Pure hate.
This is the first time I am hearing the words of this passage and it is very concerning. It sounds like Jesus is telling people to choose between their family and him. This seems very manipulative like the teaching of modern day cults. Why would Jesus speak like this?
Albert, I hope it is o.k. if I also mention another online Bible study. I enjoy Branch Together. I am also listening to "2BeLikeChrist". It is about an hour long on each chapter. You can slide the line to go to the part you are referring to. I think you will find the answer there. (I didn't see an answer given to you yet, so I hope it was o.k. that I mentioned another online study that will give you an answer. Blessings to you.
I personally see this happening if the family members are not followers of Jesus themselves. For instance, if you have a family member who doesn't believe in Jesus, that could cause conflict.
In my current situation, my son is very sick right now and we may lose him. But I lift everything to Jesus. Any member of my family may blame and be angry at Jesus for what's happening in our life right now.
