    You could probably make a review system based on two things:
    * The tilt of Mark's head (in degrees)
    * the amount of time he's speechless after
    The noodles get maybe a 3/10
    The broth and pork get a 7/10.

    How is it that nobody told Mark to order the dough fritters and braised pork leg? Including the bak kut teh, its like the holy trinity of Singapore bak kut teh meal.

    The light peppery type of Bak Kut Teh is the Teochew version of Bak Kut Teh. While the heavily spiced type of Bak Kut Teh is the Hokkien version of Bak Kut Teh.

    Inspiring! That's what I thought while watching almost all of your videos. One request if I may: would really love to see a video on Ying, what food she picks and how she thinks about it, what her favorite kind of dish and so on. Just like yours. That would make a special edition I guess, since I know through the comments that I'm not the only one who wants to see her (and knows her a bit closer).
    Above all, you two are amazing!
    Best luck from Indonesia (and its Nasi Padang) 🙏😊

    • @ProtonSega
      @ProtonSega Год назад +1

      I know this comment is 2 years late, but this video only comes up as I'm searching for ideas on what to do with my bakkwa rotting in the fridge. Any ideas besides sandwiches. Anyway, talking about Bak Kut Teh, we've all heard about Malaysians' knee-jerk reaction from tasting Singaporean Bak Kut Teh for the first time. Let's just say, it's not a polite comment for the Singaporeans, and we'll leave it at that. Anyway, yes, Klang Bak Kut Teh is the definite way to go. As a matter of fact, if anyone can't brave the grueling road-raging drive to Klang, they can also visit their nearest Chinese herbs stores (in Malaysia, nowhere else) and ask for the magic mix. Or if you prefer, look for Klang Bak Kut Teh packets at your nearest convenience stores. Bak Kut Teh has become rich people's food these days, what with prices starting at 2X that of chicken rice. It makes sense to cook it at home.

    • @KeoNz
      @KeoNz Год назад

      @@ProtonSega Nah, I would say Malaysian's herbal style is too strong and herbal in taste and not accepted by a large group of people. Most people would prefer Singapore's style of bak kut teh compared to Malaysia's.

    • @ProtonSega
      @ProtonSega Год назад

      @@KeoNz You should ask around.
      Look up: 福建 肉骨 茶 歷史 Read the top most Google result.
      Singaporean Bak Kut Teh is a somewhat bland dish, synonymous with Pig Stomach Soup with white pepper (胡椒豬肚湯). Evidently this version is Teochew style. Whereas the O.G. Klang (Hokkien) Style has all the good stuff. If you have something against herbs, then there are many Chinese dishes that you can't enjoy. And that's a pity.

    • @KeoNz
      @KeoNz Год назад

      @protonsega1130 doesn't matter what you think. Fact is the Singaporean style BKT is world renowned and has opened up many branches overseas. This alone proves how popular it is compared to the Malaysia version which can't even get out of Malaysia.

    You guys should eat this dish with 'YouTiao' (chinese donut), when that donut like 'YouTiao' dips into that Bak Kut Teh, that itself is in a totally different level of deliciousness. These is also a different type of Bak Kut Tek that has brown color soup, it has a herbal taste to it and it is very different from the white pepper soup.

    hey mark, happy lunar new year. just a heads up, i believe you'd find malaysian variation of bak kut teh and a few other singaporean food a little different. Story has it that bak kut teh was created by labourers working at the ports loading and unloading trade items and amongst it was chinese herbs. it was these scrap herbs that was picked and boiled with bones as they couldnt afford much meats at that time. as to the location, many stories point to klang in malaysia as the origin but they are fee variation. singapore'a bkt is the peppery one, klang has a braised/stewy one, and kuala lumpur is known for the soupy herbal one. all eaten with rice/oil rice/yam rice

    Should try Malaysia Bak Kut Teh next

  • @windsorus
    @windsorus 7 лет назад

    1) Yes, you pronounce it correctly! OMG~ And you almost got all the tonal (because it is in chinese) correctly!
    2) Nope, it is not pork soak in tea. I know the name is confusing, but basically, it is just pork soup and tea. In the past, people eat that and drink tea together, hence the name. (See 4:38. See the person at the back is pouring Tea. Yup... that is the exact way I remembered about Bak Kut "&" Teh. But nowadays, alot of stalls outside remove the tea (Teh) part, only sell the pork ribs soup. )
    3) Bak Kut Teh is like differ from one to another. In Singapore we have two versions: One the dark version, one is the clear version. I hope next time you can try it. ANYWAY, I remember in Hat Yai there is one "Singapore Bak Kat Teh". I think it tastes well too, if you really want to get it in Thailand. Cheers. =D

    I visited this place in my recent trip to Singapore and is not as you mentioned it to be. I guess a business can change a lot in 2 years, I would not recommend anyone to come here since this business is very shady. They put stuff on your table right after sitting down that you did not order. If you do not tell them that you do not want it, you will get charge for it without realizing until is time to pay the bill.
