This was such a great breakdown! Thanks for taking us through your process - every time I hear your music I get inspired to create. I'm thinking about getting myself a guitarviol now!
Really kind of you to say @nathan.rodrigues - guitarviolas are one of a kind instruments that open up tons of musical and sound design possibilities- deft recommend
I can't believe that we have such chance to watch such useful and beautiful content. Thank you for sharing knowledge. Looking forward to next videos(lessons). It reminds me the channel of Tom Holkenberg, because of the pure desire to share professional approaches. I like everything about the content of the channel. Knowing that there are people who can lead us to the world where we share knowledge and appreciate each other work, I am greatfull.
I'm a pro guitarist myself. That guitarviol looks super interesting! Great video. You can sort out how to set yourself up to be quicker and have the templates and the tools. The only thing left on the menu is the talent to write compelling music. You can get better at it if the gift is there to begin with but it's not a given. You can't teach that talent. But all your content is really great Jonas and it's obvious you have it all going on in a great way. I'd love to see your studio tour sometime too.
Really appreciate your kind words here @dfizzbom ! Maybe I shouldn't be this honest but I never felt I was particularly "great" at music especially when I was young...I think the "gift" is being interested in music enough to spending countless hours practicing... for decades... and eventually people start to think your talented lol. Studio tour is a great suggestion, I'll work on putting something together :)
@@jonasfriedman Hi. I'm kind of in need of a job. I'll be honest. I compose music and like to compose film or trailer type of music. I could share two recent tracks I did accompanied to a video, if it's ok with you. I would really appreciate if I could get work.
Interesting... do you often use simple melody over chord progressions to start a theme? I know people use both... my friend says the harmony is built in to chord progressions(I get that). Anytime specific you would choose a chord prog
it's typically my personal preference to create a simple melody and then work a chord progression around it. I just happen to like a theme that when boiled down can be whistled or hummed. However, there's no wrong way to go about it. I did a show a number of years ago where the chords progression where the theme just like you're suggesting. It was a much more grounded series and the approach worked as it was a very minimal but emotional theme. To me it really depends on the nature of the character and film or series as a whole. In the case of this character, having a theme boil down to something as simple as this was really effective, because towards the very end there were cues with nothing but a low drone and and manipulated voice humming this simple melody.
Thank you for the inspiration!!😄💖
The composition was really heart touching!!
Appreciate it!
You're a genius educator. Just 3mins into this, I paused and created a theme (fleshed out) for a character I was trying to figure out. Thanks a lot.

you need to do a vid on the guitarviol! I want one so bad
It's already in the works! Honestly, that instrument was such a great investment for my type of music and work. It's versatility is amazing

Thanks as usual! Very helpful! Many thanks 👍
Do you ever choose to use a chord progression instead of simple melody to start a theme?
I put a more detailed answer to this in your other comment :)
