This song is based on the hymn "I Lay My Sins on Jesus" by Horatius Bonar (1808-1899). Bonar was a well known preacher in the Free Church of Scotland as well as a prolific author, poet and hymn writer. A chorus has been added and some archaic language has been updated.

The chorus which has been added to the hymn speaks of the wonder of salvation by grace. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone, apart from works but are changed when we are saved, inclined to do good works as led by the Spirit of God. Every believer knows the peace of the forgiveness that "takes away our guilt and our shame". May all believers seek to share this wonder and speak to the world about so great a salvation and live lives that please the Savior.
