A couple moved in from the 'big city' next to my parents and proceeded to make themselves a stink in the nose of everyone around them. They spent years harassing literally every dog owner in the area, using county ordinances concerning barking to force every family with dogs to either get rid of them or keep them indoors. This in a 5+ acre per dwelling zone. After alienating every neighbor, to include calling the police to report being 'followed' by family members of a neighbor throughout town, they parked a derelict car at the entrance of their driveway to shelter a couple of cameras, then a second further in to watch the first. When a neighbor got a 4-wheeler for their kid, the couple complained to the county about the noise, then installed a camera to record the minor (!) driving around on their own property across the county road. Lately they harassed my parents about our chickens, leaving notes, even threatening phone calls. In the end they resorted to erecting 12' tall privacy screens around their property.
If you can manage to avoid acting like a paranoid schizophrenic, ask how things are done where you end up rather than opining about how people did it back home, and NOT work tirelessly to alienate your neighbors, you'll typically fit in most anywhere.

NC has become overwhelmed, our cost of living has skyrocketed, our culture is being destroyed, infrastructure is overwhelmed, it is harder to get into a doctor or find a new doctor, and everywhere you go is crowded all the time and no matter the day of the week, including state parks. I never thought I would see the day that I would arrive at a state park only to be turned away because it’s full. Farmland is being bought up to throw up cheaply built homes that go for $400,000 minimum! Born and raised in NC and I hate to see my beautiful state being destroyed!

Colorado here. There are a lot of old mining towns that haven’t changed much in 100 years, however in the last 10 years development and flooding of movers from cali and texas has put mansions along mountain ranges that used to be beautiful and untouched. Farm supply shops are now car washes. Greasy spoon joints are now coffee shops. My town devoted millions of dollars for a bicycle trail that will give you access to anywhere in town you’d like to go, and they still pedal on 60 mph highways. I don’t see any bears anymore because people are irresponsible with their trash so any bear found looting is shot and dumped. Trash and dog poop bags litter any trail you hike, no matter how remote. It’s gotten so bad any private points of interest have been fenced off. Highschool kids (presumably) have decided to start spray painting cliff faces and hangouts I would frequent in highschool. Even my most degenerate peers wouldn’t dream of spraypainting rock faces, because of the permanent nature of spraypainting sandstone or granite. The people moving here have very little respect for the place they are moving to, a place I call home. And the women specifically have no shame in treating locals like a relic of the past that hasn’t been thrown away yet.

Now semi retired in NE California, in a small town of 15k. The county I'm in is 99.9% MAGA... and my county is surrounded by red counties with conservative sheriffs . God bless you and God willing the democrats will screw CA up badly enough AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT ENOUGH ELECTION INTEGRITY MEASURES that you can begin to vote their asses out.
For my part, I was born and raised in Kansas. Joined the Navy in 1980, which took me to Vallejo in 1993 and then to San Diego in 1994.
The closest I got to your area was Eureka and the Redwood forests in 1993.
Got married to a San Diego native and raised two boys there, lived and worked another 21 years after I retired from the Navy. We were looking for the exit door from CA when my dad in my Kansas hometown got ill. So in 2021 after 28 years in CA, we moved to my Smallville Kansas hometown and haven't looked back. Wife actually lived in Campo for some years before we met, so she's very much at home in small town and rural. We both had our fill of CA taxes, cost of living, and political insanity compounded by big city insanity, San Diego freeways and Selfish Idiotic Drivers.
I thought sure after Gruesome's totalitarian COVID lockdowns, obvious corruption and obvious hypocrisy, he'd get recalled in 2021, and I was proud to vote to recall him just before we moved out. I can think of only one reason he survived. So I really hope you and all of you who are staying are fighting like hell for election integrity, or you'll NEVER dislodge the totalitarians currently ruling your state.

My family's roots go back to Oregon Territory days in Western WA, and it has become so thoroughly corrupt and obnoxious to live here that I've become willing to abandon those roots to give my kid a chance to live somewhere that isn't deranged and mentally ill. There are still a lot of people here that fit in my 'tribe'. We're still here, enduring. I still haven't found a place to flee to that would be better than here in the long term; wokeness is a flood, and every sane area is now an island in danger of subversion.

A huge issue here in TN is that people from wealthy states have driven the cost up for homes to 3x what they were in 2019, 2020 and in some cases 2021. Tennessee has the least restrictions of any state for homesteading and so now the land has gone from $5000 per acre in Bradley County to $16,000 or more per acre and if you want to buy land in Sevierville, especially near Gatlinburg, expect to pay a minimum of $40,000+ an acre. I don’t care where you look East of Nashville the land prices are now out of reach for most Tennessean’s. If you are going to come here, please stop paying so much for raw land and homes, you are pricing those of us who are from here or have lived here for decades out of our own market!

We had the American dream in Southern Oregon and 10 years ago, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. The then governor resigned and Kate Brown was installed and that started the end of our way of life. Taxes and ideology went crazy to the point that 5 years ago we sold our small ranch and moved to Texas. We live a life now, financially and with freedoms that we know that could not be possible in Oregon. Fun fact: even though I'm a registered Republican in Texas, I still get mail in ballots from Oregon.

Hawaii is generational Democrats. Hawaii is also a very liberal state. So as a Christian Republican I’m just so so discouraged by the politics. I did my time trying to promote traditional family values and our basic freedoms. So much in fact that I burned out.

My favorite was when we got our property tax bill this year, and there was the "inflation multiplier" calculated in. Like what the heck is that even? Our taxes literally doubled from last year because of it.

Fellow Butte Couny folks! I'm staying here and fighting as long as I can. These foothills and woods are my home. I worked for BCSO during the Camp Fire and remember that time period well. I was driving to work in Chico when it kicked off and it's crazy how fast it spread. By the time I got to Chico from Biggs, the smoke was already covering down Skyway and the street lights were coming back on.

@@Uncannysius2023As a resident of Shasta County myself, I'm not convinced that any of them are. Perhaps Siskiyou or Del Norte, but Butte and Shasta are getting a little dicier each election cycle, and Tehama probably isn't far behind.
And sadly, I'm someone who can't afford to leave, or else I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

      @josephcrook9921 22 дня назад

@@Uncannysius2023 hard to say. Most of Butte is still more small town rural minded, but Chico is just so much bigger than every other town and the state is making it impossible for the localities to fix any issues, especially the homeless issue. I'd still say it's better than the Bay Area or any big metropolitan region.

@@jeffreywinters8060eh, I'm not convinced Butte actually went for Biden in 20 like they're saying. Chico, by far the left stronghold in Butte voted out their liberal city council in a big way. All the other towns kept their conservative incumbents and the county went majority for Congressman LaMalfa. The college students and a chunk of the staff were gone because of Covid. Now they're saying we went Red everywhere except for the President? I don't buy it.

We are in central IL, far removed from Chicago. The thing here is that theres a pretty stark divide between the northern part of the state and the southern part. The southern part is very conservative, full of small towns and farmers with conservative values. We are fortuante to live in a small community where the people and the schools align with our values, unlike further north in this state. I pay very close attention to what is taught and the policies within our schools and, so far, theyve remained conservative and refuse to be coerced into pushing certain agendas. Also fortunately, we live in a wealthy community who can afford to sustain the school system if the state withholds funds. We have no current plans to leave, but we monitor the temperature in our area and if things start to change here, we'll do what we need to. 😏
One benefit of living in IL is that it has one of the most lax homeschool laws of all the states. There are very few limits on homeschool currently, and you dont have to report to the state until high school. Of course, it would not surprise me at all if that changes in the near future.

Oklahoma is very lenient. It was built into our constitution because of the lack of schools. Everyone loves to shout truancy or school not actually being taught but with learning to take tests being the norm I would say how do public schools not neglect many more students. My own 60+ uncle didn’t know how to read when he left high school. The homeschoolers I know that had the least education, knew how to read. When you can read the sky is the limit on what you can learn. 😊
