I was happy to hear Russell T Davies was coming back but it sounds like more of the same virtue signaling and lecturing we’ve come to expect as of late. Totally agree with Connor. The retcon was a complete disaster. William Hartnell is the FIRST DOCTOR WHO. PERIOD!
RTD will write better stories but what kind ? My worry is that people remember him from 2005 that was before these woke times. Looking at his output in the intervening time, it's all about pushing social identity, sexuality, gay , lesbian, trans etc and I fear he will so to speak 'push our faces in it' to make his point. If he wants to make his point DO IT SOMEWHERE ELSE not in MY Dr Who. Bill was brilliant and I've hated everyone since !!! because there weren't The Doctor HE WAS, then everytime THEY became by good acting and writing The Doctor, this is something Jodie never did. I disliked her and the writing from the start, EXPECTED TO, but then she Never Grew into the Doctor, that is almost ALL down to the ***** that is Chibnall, she had no chance ! so to this day it colours my view of her in the role.
God knows I'm fearful of what is to come for I fear Russell T Davies the saviour could very easily become The Destroyer Of Doctor Who, it's in the balance
Totally agreed! Hartnell was my first doctor when I was a child.

Well that, and it’s too woke.
What? The stories and characters are the way they are BECAUSE of the woke agenda.
No, they are changing the lore BECAUSE they are woke. If the rumours that the First Doctor isn't William Hartnell - besides causing a shed load of issues - they have alienated every single fan who understood the lore.

It’s not one of the UK’s most loved television shows anymore, as stated it’s ratings are through the floor and still falling … wonder why? 🤔

No, it's not. Ratings are down across the board. It's chart position is still healthy.
@@CromCromCrom But when RTD will be back, there will be a boost in the viewing figure.
We need Stephen Moffat back, if nothing else but to keep RTD in check, let’s not forget, Stephen wrote some brilliant stories too. The two writers bounced off each other, each one pipping the other to the post. I think there are smarter ways of introducing black time lords and alien assistants, Romana was a fantastic character and a time lord. There was also Kamelion, an android who was never fully realised due to ( as Peter says ) poor special effects. It’s a science fiction show, a show that allows us the time to forget about all the earthly problems and was an healthy distraction! prove us wrong!
tv is dying in general
Connor is right, and tells some interesting truths.
But the camp black person (didn't catch their pronouns) said he had his knickers in a twist, so it doesn't count. Yet again the left goes on the attack because they have no arguments to support their ideology.
don't care if they cast a black or white person in a role, in fact I'd go as far as saying I like more black actors cast in roles that portray a positive image. I mean Idris Elba as Luther was great and is a positive image of a black man on television. But if you are suggesting that in a 90% white country that you must have 49% ethnic minorities, 49% LGBTQ people and 2% white straight people then I think you're just being ridiculous.
I agree with you but I must say that we really have moved on now, from black actors only being cast in negative roles, for you to feel the need to still espouse it.
I don't mind being inclusive as long as its because the said actor is the best choice for the roll and not just cast because of their gender, race,or sex
Which he's not as far as I know
The Doctor is British - it should have been a British actor. The fact that Adrian Lester and Paterson Joseph passed on this or weren't asked - both excellent actors with universal appeal - indicates the "best actor" for the role wasn't selected. Maybe the "best we can afford" but definitely not the best for the role.
@@rubix4195 oh I never said he was the best for the roll I just ment I'm okay with diversity If the actor is the best for the roll

The retcon was absolutely appalling. William Hartnell will forever be the First Doctor in my book, no matter how the Woke BBC want to spin it. The Doctor isn't even a Timelord anymore according to the retcon. It was designed to alienate old viewers of the show and in that it was very successful. It's almost like they hate the old fan base and want them to get lost.

Dan, Peter Purves's surname is pronounced Purvis, not pervs.
The Doctor was always a white male. If he were to be regenerated, logic tells us he would be regenerated as a white male. It is regeneration, not transformation. Some animals can grow new limbs or even be cut into pieces and regenerate. They regenerate into what they were before. They don't change colour or change sex.
The writers of Doctor Who have taken huge liberties with the overall story. They have made it political, espousing left wing ideology and all manner of perversity (remember the inter-species marriage in the episode with Ardal O'Hanlon, of Father Ted fame, and the lesbian relationship between a human woman and a lizard female). The last series got a rating of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. I have to admit, it was the first series I couldn't bring myself to watch. I didn't care any more. I doubt if I'll watch it ever again. It's too far gone.
Sadly, I won't watch it either, after watching it since I was 10..
I started watching at 11 in 2005 and stopped after the Timeless Children destroyed the foundations and haven’t seen it since, and from the reactions to the decline in viewership it looks as though I’m glad I didn’t waste my time. Initially I was hoping RTD would bring it back to how he had made it, but it’s clear he’s carrying on the same narrative from the Chibnall/Whittaker run, the 2 best outcomes for the programme now is for it to either go on a long hiatus or it gets cancelled.
The only time I’ll ever watch Dr Who again is when the Timeless Children is erased and acknowledge William Hartnell as the First Doctor.

Just a little info on falling rating, When the companion Bill was bought into the series in 2010 there was barely an episode when she didn't announce that she was a Lesbian (Identity Politics) Steven Moffat was told by the BBC to add in WOKE nonscience and they pushed Capaldi out he wanted to carry on but they wanted a FEMALE Doctor .
Moffat and Capaldi were the last line of defence against the woke bullshit. Unfortunately, they couldn't hold the line forever. At least Moffat made sure all the loose ends were tied up and brought the series full circle. The fanbase at large agrees that Capaldi was the final Doctor.
I don't remember an episode where we had her going on about her sexuality. It was used in Pilot, Extremis and the Doctor Falls. 3 times, is that too much? Edit: do you research it was 2017 not 2010.
Watching a BBC nature programme about the disappearance of butterflies from the countryside they managed to work the Notting hill carnival into it
"nonscience"? About a two hearted alien from another world who travels regularly through a time vortex and is effectively immortal through regeneration? I think you might find that's science fiction. Also, when asked on the matter, the Doctor points out "we’re billions of years beyond your petty human obsession with gender and its associated stereotypes."
Bill Potts was a lesbian. That, however, was never the main point of the character. It was just one part of her identity and contrary to what's been implied above it wasn't rammed down the audience's throat just for the sake of making sure we didn't forget who she was. There was much more to the character than simply being gay, just as there was more to any straight character than simply being straight. Bill Potts wasn't presented as being "better" because of who she was, Bill Potts didn't lecture anyone on why there is something wrong with you if you're not like her. In fact, during Bill's tenure as the Companion, it was the Doctor who started getting lecture-y in what proved to be a softening up of the audience for the vicious attack on white hetero maleness that followed. Pearl Mackie did a fantastic job with Bill Potts, who was a genuine strong female character with NO agenda, and that's precisely why she was killed off the moment the Chibnall monster took over.
And if it wasn't obvious before, the writing was most unmistakably on the wall in Capaldi's final story, when the First Doctor was outrageously re-written as a misogynist, just so the Big Brother Corporation's virtue-signalling department could berate him for it.
Whittaker's Doctor is clearly just a vehicle for the sexual frustrations of Chris Chibnall - a straight, white man who is so creepy and ugly he can't get a girl and is so desperate for a shag he pretends to be a militant feminist in the hope that one of the man-haters he seeks to mollify will take pity on him.
I laughed when Dan pronounced Peter's surname "Perves" and not "Pur-viss".

Actually, both you and Connor are so incredibly wrong you make the rest of us collectively groan at your ignorance. I disagree with Peter Purves. Casting an actor as the Doctor, is not just giving someone a job, its not like saying "my doctor is black". The Doctor is a CHARACTER, having been played by more than a dozen different actors, all playing the SAME character, albeit with varying eccentricities, but basically the same person. Its not like the companion who is a different person and can be anything or anyone. Its not like being a newsreader ho can be whatever you want, as its a NEW person. And science fiction is no excuse for doing "anything you like". There is a "Whoniverse" in which the rules are well established.
Its the BBC, does that answer your question

For me it started losing its way when Matt Smith's doctor started snogging his companions. The problem isn't the actors, it's the weak, insipid, politically loaded story lines with poorly constructed characters. The writers only seem to care about placating the Guardian TV critics.

just admit youre racist. The guy is a terrific actor and isn't qualified in the racist eyes of GB news and Dailymail readers on the basis of his hue
What's woke about it?
@@Dan_Therapist feeble to try pulling the slanderous racist card but I lost interest when capaldi was on 🖕
@Henry Andrews yes all the wokeness haven't you heard? Ask Google if you dont watch it, wouldn't waste my time arguing with someone who pretends wokeness isn't a thing.
@Henry Andrews if you read my comment which I'll stand by you'd understand I've watched Dr who over 40 years so if you have more knowledge than me about Dr who that's something you'd have to ask yourself. I won't argue with someone who promotes what the bbc are doing so I'm wise enough not to waste my time doing so. Good day.
Yes it is to do with what they are, that's what the the BBC do!
Peter Purvis saying that Jodie Whittaker was very good says all you need to about him.
He is getting on a bit .He was probably thinking of Jodie Lawrence.
Exactly what I thought. The idiot clearly wouldn't know a decent actor if they punched him in the face.
Bye Bye doctor who …..
RTD is mayor of woke, he is completely deranged now, not the same guy who bought the show back with a bang in 2005.
Yes he is. He's exactly the same guy; but now instead of being subversive within the mainstream BBC, he's part of the Twitter-pandering, Guardian-reading management.
The woke stuff has always been in there, from Episode 1: Rose, but it just flew under the radar for most, then when he left it went away largely in the Moffatt era (unfortunately the writing also took a downturn) before the BBC management shifts and general wokery started to push the agenda more in Capaldi's run.
Just take a look at Mickey, at Donna's fake husband (then her real one after her memory loss), the copper in Blink and the eventual husband of Sally - all have one thing in common... Then look at the "best actor for the role" new Doctor. All RTD's time.
Noel Clarke perhaps was just considered a standout in terms of casting - could easily be understood, but two of the others are just pictures on a mantel and in a wallet; so they are deliberate, conscious choices by the producers to portray those relationships.
We need to stop funding the BBC until they give us what we want and that includes stopping buying their magazines. Would you go to a shop that sells nothing that you want and still buy what is sells? Of course you wouldn't so stop funding the BBC until they give us what we want.
Wonder why they don't make a totally different program with these same actors instead of hijacking other programs..
Put it thus way if they made Mr T white in the 80s A-team I would of been really annoyed !!
Switch off BBC full stop !!
Dr Who reached peak woke in an episode in the series before last, where they had a black male character, Ryan, an Asian female character, Yaz, and of course a female Doctor in a storyline revolving around two main characters who were gay men. I can't think of any more boxes to tick apart from trans.
That didn't bother me near as much as the forced transgender, doctor already has to deal with being male and female enough did they have to scream "were woke BBC?!?!"
@@Michael-yx3np By forced transgender you mean Yasmin Finney, a relatively small actor picked up because she just had her big break and isn't even confirmed to be a trans character? Good fucking god the amount of straw men in this comment section could supply a farm for an eon.
@@gruntskome366 no i wasn't actually, I was referring to next incarnation, but an lgbtq has played a major part in dr who since Jack Harkness. Represented by a small very very whiny portion of the population.... too woke!
@@Michael-yx3np What the fuck are you on about? It took you two months to come up with this incoherent babbling where the only thing that makes sense is you spewing out Woke because you have no other fucking argument?
Hmmm, Bond is going to go the same way. This is just Cultural Appropriation, Downton has already succomed
Used to watch dr who with the whole family then cappaldi left and we watched one episode with Jodie Whittaker then sadly no more.
Its time to rest WHO for a while
The next person to be cast as the Doctor will be disabled. In a wheelchair.
I'm not even joking.
Will be great to see them battle Davros . . . evenly matched . . .
Will the next Doctor have a severe learning disability as well? perhaps a non English speaker?
It'll be a russian transgender.in the bag
a handicapped small person asian thats transgendered with a lisp
Davros and Doctor in wheelchairs would be awesome if they duel like the wheelchair scene in Scary Movie 2
Has there been a left handed Doctor Who ??? If not then its important this is brought to the publics attention .
Why woke decide another uk classic gone
What makes this "woke"?
Why are so many of you illiterate
Dr.Who is gone.
Went too woke with Chibnall, Whittaker and Walsh.
Acting like Moffat didn’t make the master into a female with Missy series 8-10 so why is it any different if Chibnall made the doctor a female too?
Walsh was the best part of it
yes it's gone totally woke don't watch
Excellent discussion. I remember William Hartnell, terrified me as we all huddled on the settee as kids. I agree totally about the script, Connor is spot on in his comments.
I remember him, I was 11 years old, I identified with Susan, and my grandfathers had both died before I was born, so I wondered if grandfathers were always grouchy!
