Well said, Mimi. It’s hard to give immigration advice though. No two persons situation is the same in Canada. It’s not about age. I remember relocating to Calgary 12 years ago at the age of 48. Yes 48. My situation however is comfortable to say the least. I moved into my own house from day one. Bought a brand new suv from day one. Three kids attended private school. Trust me, this is the situation for many of us at that time.
Am I still paying mortgage right now at 60. Hell no! Fully paid. Are the people we landed together still paying? May be…yes. It’s how you plan and package your life. The opportunity is there but it’s left for individuals to make the ‘mess’ a message

Mimi please stop putting a time table on people's life especially as a Nigerian. Most Middle class Nigerians started working on building their careers from their teens in secondary school but Nigeria is in a free fall and the middle class are fanning out to the 4 corners of the earth to find better opportunities. Once abroad, we are all starting afresh. Whether you're 25 or 50, what matters is how smart you are in utilizing the opportunities available to build wealth. The problem with our people is that they don't want to put in the work and don't want to take time to understand their new country.
Retirement age is 65. Health care in Canada is free and life expectancy is 61 in Nigeria and 82 in Canada. So, relocating can potentially add up to 20 years to your life.
In Canada, you can get your papers from Nigeria or within a couple of years through a masters. So this makes the transition very easy.
If you are wise and you relocate at 50 you need to go into a career that requires a short training and pays well, not the highest or most glamorous job. Nursing takes 2 years, trucking takes a month. Both pay relatively well. Focus on one career. Avoid chasing high paying, glamorous careers where you aren't sure of making the big money or making it early in your career.
Live below your means, save, invest in real estate and the stock market. Pay off your mortgage early, and buy at least one good rental property abroad. Forget about investing in Nigeria or showing off back home.
In 15 years of consistently building wealth, you can retire comfortably while living well all along.
Honestly, the focus should be on doing the relocation right vs moving young. Some people that came at a later age are even making it better than the younger ones. I personally came to the US in my 30s. I got my green card 6 years later and I decided to go into trucking instead of returning to my original profession as a lawyer. You won't believe how many people came to America, went back to practice law and spent decades working here without being a millionaire. I chose a profession that will give me the opportunity to become a millionaire by 60. It's all about the knowledge and the discipline.
It's not about age. No job will make you rich, being a medical doctor in America will never make you rich, it's how you manage and invest your income that will make you rich. The largest study of the millionaires in America revealed the list of 10 professions that had the most millionaires, doctors and nurses weren't on the list. Teachers were on the list even though they earned less than nurses.
50 is a perfectly OK age to migrate to Canada if you know what you're doing. Meanwhile, there are Nigerians who came here as teenagers that are still floundering here.

Abeg it is young as long as there is good health, sound mind and ability to understand the environment you are in or about to move to.

The thing about mortgage is that even if you start your mortgage at 50 and you are given 20 years to pay it back, it does not mean you have to take 20 years to pay it. You can always pay it sooner.

With the present $ rate to Naira and level of poverty and insecurity, even at age 60 many would still want to leave, if given the opportunity. Useless leadership in the country has destroyed a rich country called Nigeria. Some 9 yrs back someone on monthly salary of N1m was about $6k converted after tax. Many go abroad for holidays but fast forward to today N1m is less than $1K. This has affected living standard and this is why many want to leave at any age. If by miracle $ drops and it is now N200 = $ , many abroad would start relocating back to Naija to look for jobs.

I think there is no age limit to start all over again.
The important thing is the means. If you can afford it and you have a good solid plan, go for it.
Those children for whom you are relocating late, will be there as your support system in no distant time. So you are not really alone in this journey.
You come to this world once, so why don't you make the most of it while giving your children the best opportunities to thrive as well.

I feel making reasonable amount of cash for "me" to buy a house is what i have to do to avoid stress at my age.

If you live one year in Canada and you have built your credit and met the income and other requirements to buy a house in Canada, sell that property in Nigeria and use the money as a down payment to buy a multi family unit in Canada and finish the basement nicely. Your tenants will pay the mortgage for you and you can rely on the rent when you retire. Property in Nigeria is not an asset to someone living abroad.

Most of the people I know who are moving at that age are starting a business not going to work a 9-5 so that is another perspective to consider. They have savings already and can comfortably move without the pressure of getting survival jobs to make ends meet. I think this is ideal for anyone moving at that age. Like you rightly said, a 9-5 is not what will make you "hammer" in Canada BUT for someone who is a business owner, Canada is a great place to be. There are a lot of tax breaks and government grants/assistance that encourage/ support small business owners etc and ofcourse earning potential is unlimited.
However if the person is planning to leave "Good morning sir" in Nigeria to start hearing "Hello Femi" in Canada in the name of 9-5 😂😂 RESPECTFULLY please don't do it

No no no girl I disagree with you on this one my aunt and her husband relocate to the US when her husband was 55 years they had only a piece of land which they sold before leaving Cameroon, but now after five years, they have two four story building and they have bought a house on a house on mortgage which they will be paying for 20 years. As of now, they have already been paying for five years.

The intention of this video is not to discourage anyone but to let people know that it’s a YES and NO answer. I’m surprised at how this is discouraging because I ended by saying people have more compelling reasons to move regardless of what I think.
What exactly did I say in this video that discouraged you? I will like to explain better.

Nice video! But theres absoiutley No age limit for a restart.. at this age people move for the benefit of the next generation .. their kids..,. You shouldnt look to move and start entry level at that stage. Life is in stages.
Ypu shd definitely know where you will be placed when ypu japa. Also you shd be established back home. You shdnt sell off what you have backhome.
You absouletly shdnt think of starting from scratch! My 2 cents!

Why are you very pessimistic and negative in this video? My neighbour who retired as a Professor at 70years just migrated to Canada after retirement with his wife and he is good over there. You need to understand that many successful people who are 50years and above migrate to Canada and USA not seeking to buy many houses because they probably built houses in Nigeria. They simply want to give their grow children opportunities or even settle as a family there not not be wealthy. So they are able to adjust with even lower job. I know a Daddy friend in USA who is 73years, who told me he works as a sales Representative for a company and he looks younger than his age full of energy. Anybody who want to migrate to Canada or USA should not listen to this negative opinions but humble yourself to adjust and you will be fine because that place has opportunities for all age group.

You are not doing good to impose on age limit. Age is just a number, and in any case life in African is a much greater risk, North America is well advanced. Your advice can be misleading if you keep insisting on age, leave it open for one to decide based on the factors surrounding .

Hi Mimi, thank you for sharing this great info! Guess what, myself&hubby are in our early 40s&have 3 kids who are below thirteen.
We have lived in S. Africa for 19 yrs,the crime here's a nightmare! My hubby was followed as he had withdrawn money from the Bank, thank God the money was in his socks&they got away with the car key. He was blocked@the gate&&as they were searching for the money,he run towards the house screaming and thankfully an old white lady opened her house& he managed to enter. He survived cz they actually had started shooting and the old lady called the son who is a police officer.
Another time, thieves jumped over the complex electric fence and stole our bikes, this traumatized my kids that they couldn't sleep well.
Another incident happened when I was going shopping with my kids 10:00a.m and we were approached by gun men who were pointing guns at us. They wanted to use my car as a gate away since they had robed a stand alone house. God was on our side,I told my kids to duck& drove to the opposite direction like a mad woman.
This traumatized my kids up to today, they're always suspicious when they see our black brothers moving in a group. We took them for couciling and even moved from that location to another. Nothing has changed for them.
I love S.Africa, but to tell you the truth, the crimes committed are so abnormal;we basically live looking behind our shoulders at all times!
Have decided to migrate to Canada,I don't mind the long winters. But I can't live to see my kids grow up here. Getting jobs alone as a foreginer here is not that simple, unless you have your own business. Sorry about the long message,I just never thought,I would leave S.Africa because it's a very beautiful country with great economy, weather&culture.
So at 43 am so ready to migrate! Godbless you Mimi✨️🙏

I must say that this topic was very difficult for me to speak on and I understand that there are more compelling reasons that people choose and you just gave an example of it. You alone knows what is best for your family and I pray God will perfect your plans.
