I have always found it quite curious how even for the Japanese, kanji are quite confusing. xD

I think it is because there are around 2,000+ regular kanji out there. Then 50,000+ total kanji overall iirc

The reason it may be confusing is because all kanji can be read in two ways. The Chinese way or the Japanese way.

I think it's because of the way the characters retain their Chinese meaning while having Japanese pronunciation.
It's a bit like if English were to use French words for writing, so you'd write "poisson" but still pronounce it "fish".

@@chialuenlis5931 and more often than not, more than just two ways. they just group the different readings into two groups, on'yomi (from chinese) and kun'yomi (from japanese)... some kanji like 生 genuinely have 25 readings, not including nanori (readings from names, where people can legit just make up new readings)
