I just got back from punta cana it’s a beautiful island and I missed the excursion but I was told that’s where the pirates of the carribean was filmed, we are definitely going back and def going on that excursion.
I had the same experience there at Isla Saona. But we stayed at a hotel minutes from that excursion area and ate at this restaurant very close to the loading area. I never think about what I did until I look at videos like yours . Your “watch out for this” point were correct. And, I did notice a lot of intoxicated people there. I have lots of video but haven’t done a damn thing with it yet. Good times.
Wowwww!!!!! I love your video,I’m Dominican and I have been in Punta Cana but not that resort, but your video inspire me,I went to Mexico recently live in Jersey but I can’t wait to go overthere,I love the hotel and everything!!!!! Thanks 🙏🏼 ❤️
You did a great job capturing this excursion. I took it in 1994 and I see it hasn't changed at all! It's still one of the prettiest Islands on that side of the DR. Samana ( Cayo Laventado ) is also beautiful.
Thank you for your honest review. I am enjoying all your video. Can't wait for our DR vacation next month. We will be staying at Excellence El Carmen. ❤
This is an absolutely amazing video. I was debating on if i need to go to Saona Island & i think i should. Only downside is that i don’t know if i can drive there instead of taking the early morning bus. If you made some research on that please let me know! Overall, great video, great review! Definitely worth a SUB! 🔥👍
Thank you! Definitely go!!! But I’m not sure about the bus ride or taking a taxi. I’m assuming you could absolutely drive yourself. But you would still have to pay the $99
Hi there! Thanks for sharing your experience! May be you would like to go with us next time? We will show you other side of the island (even more beautiful, without speedboats & catamarans in front of the beach, more time on the beach) :)
You can take cab to the Punta Cana airport and rent a car for a day or two. I negotiated the price once at the port and payed around $35 USD per person for the same tour everyone gets. Prices from Punta Cana are the highest, the closer you get to Bayahibe the less you pay.
I grew up in the Dominican Republic and went to Isla Saona just one time. It’s truly amazing how you describe this tour and above all, how beautiful the water is. Did some of the tourist passed out? Some seem a little drunk haha
Great review and breakdown. curious how long the boat ride was to and back from the island (guessing back was quicker). I'm assuming time at the island was about 3 hours if it was almost a 11 hour trip and its 3 hours just to get there. I'd guess 1.5 hours on the boat there, 3 hours there, maybe 45 minutes on the way back, and 3 hours drive home would be about 7am to 6pm. Sounds like personal transportation would be ideal.
So you could get to the port in 1-1.5 if you went yourself without the stops. It was an hour 1/2 ride to the island. 2 hours on the island then 45 minutes back. But then in the ride home you are stopping at all the resorts dropping people off
2 hours is not enough time for that amount of money! That’s why I like boat tours in Mexico and Thailand! It’s way less expensive and you get more time on the boat! Also the boats have an open bar and buffet!
i went 3 years ago and miss it! i’m glad i could relive the experience through ur video. i totally agree that it was a bit annoying that the bus had to stop at 4-6 resorts on the way there and back for pick up/drop off. my resort was the farthest, so we had to stay on the bus the longest. it got a bit frustrating at the end of the long day when we just wanted to be back in our hotel room. plus, resorts had very long drives from the main road into the actual drop off area so it was so time consuming. that was the only down side. the overall experience at the island and natural pool was phenomenal
Yeah, I totally feel you. On small islands, it's not a big deal, but when I was in Turkey for instance, I had already been on a bus for 14 hours, then we finally got back to the tourist zone, a 2 hour journey turned into a 4 hour one, because the bus kept stopping to drop off other passengers, the literally just sat in one spot for 15 minutes, because someone got lost. I was exhausted and frustrated and almost lost it. I almost got off the bus and hopped into a cab. I think for larger tours like this, they should have one or two pick up points, because they don't understand that people are tired and this constant stopping to drop off other passengers is extremely annoying.
My friend and I did Saona in Aug 2018. Its definitely a beautiful island and because at the time we were there it was during a large influx of seaweed in PC so we did not get a normal sea for the two weeks we were there so this was nice to get that Cuba beach I am so used to even for the short time. As for the overall trip here is my review. I felt and I know others would agree that the time it takes to get there and the time they give you at the island is not worth it as your spending longer on the road than the actual island which was like less than 3 hours factoring in lunch they give you. Also they should give a disclaimer for the speed boat rides. My friend and I found ourselves a bit sick at the end of the day as we were not used to speed boat. When we got back to the resort was around dinner time we went to the buffet and the entire night we felt like we were still on that boat and felt a bit off and like nauseated I don’t know, was really weird I think we were also really tired from the day but definitely felt the motion for hours after getting off on land. I recommend the trip if you never done it. Personally I would not go back as I already seen it I would try other excursions before.
@@3Days3Noches no problem thank you for the reviews glad I found your channel. My friend and I are looking to try Mexico for the first time in July hopefully. We are set on Barcelo Maya Palace not the adult one. Been watching your Barcelo reviews and Mexico tips its very useful thank you.
So let me think about this I fly to the Dominican Republic which is an island which I have done numerous times and I pay $99. to go to another island that has a lot of people standing in the water that is in the same sea I just came from? Even better my hotel has a beach with virtually the same sand there...the only exception is there are no hotels...Ok I am sold......and Oh by the way my Hotel gives me free drinks too.
If you were visiting for 6 days and 5 nights, considering that two days would really be for travel, would you still recommend using a full day on this excursion?! Fantastic videos by the way. Getting ready to surprise my wife with this trip for our five year Anniversary. You are very helpful!
Love your video and thank you for sharing. Our family of 30 will be there in June and we are looking for a family friendly excursion. Our group age ranges from 2 years old to 67. We actually have 5 kids under the age of 8, 4 teens from 16 to 17...and the rest are over 18. Would you recommend this tour for a group with young kids? I am concerned of the whole day event and the speed boat ride back for the younger kids. Thx for your help!
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching and that is absolutely incredible - 30 people! I actually would not recommend this for young kids. I think they would be bored with it. I don't know where you are staying but the Majestic also had excursions for a safari and adventure park that seems more fun. Omg would love to hear more about this trip! Where are you staying?

Hi! I don’t think this a good trip for kids. They will be bored out of their minds if they are anything like my kids. I think the only other option was a private tor which was $1200 I think!
Awesome video! I’m going in May for 3 nights. Would you recommend us going on this excursion even though we are staying on the resort for a super short trip? Thanks!

Wow so beautiful! Our honeymoon is in September in la romana, and this excursion is on the list to do. We land in and punta cana airport. Is it better to rent a car and drive from punta cana to la romana?or use their transportation service? Thanks!
You will love it. I would NOt drive in DR unless you’re from there!! Literally crazy drivers. You can contact our partners Diamond Transfers and see if they do it too! (849) 919-0260
Got it !!! Have you ever flown into Santo Domingo Airport? If so do you have any hotel transportation that offer sprinter van? Amstar only offers mini vans from That airport location
Thank you so much!! Pretty much all day by the time you get the bus, pick everyone else up etc. the actual tour was about an hour or so Catalan ride to the island. An hour and a half on the island then speed boat back around 30 minutes.
@@3Days3Noches i was asking because my return flight from punta cana is at 7:30PM so i was trying to see if can do this tour on my last day and still be able to make it the airport by 5:30pm .. u remember by what time they drop u guys off after the tour
Definitely for Punta Cana but I live to do it for the experience and the people. But not for everyone which is why I do these videos!!! Just got back from Mexico. Next video coming soon 🤗🤗
Looks absolutely beautiful! I’m planning on doing this next year however, wanted to know, I get extreme sea sickness whenever I’m on a boat and it stops ☹️ apart from stopping in the shallow water where you got out, and then the beach shoes themselves, did the boat stop at all? for the party etc.
Eh......just as I feared, it looks like they took you to the Playa Bonita section. Do you know if there are any tours or public ferries that take you to the Mano Juan section?
We are looking to go to DR in September and are heavily considering this excursion. Did you pre-book the excursion through an agency or on-site at your resort? I've heard you can save money by booking on your resort but I don't want to miss the opportunity to book.
You definitely have to do this trip! We prebooked it through the on-site tour company at The Majestic called Majestic tours. However I didn’t like the fact that you had to pick up other people at several different resorts so I know there are better options out there.
Yes!! I just uploaded a video on Las Isla Mujeres! And I have a ton of videos on Cancun. I will do a comparison video in the fall because I’m going back to Cancun and doing a full excursion to Isla Mujeres. But La Saona is a lot better than Mujeres bc it’s more like a virgin island!!
@@3Days3Noches nice. Thank you for the response. This was a fun video. I did Isla Mujeres twice, one time during the day and another at night. I enjoyed the daytime trip much more. I am going to Punta Cana in May and quite sure I will give this a go. It looks amazing

Hi, Thanks for the video. I was curious as to how much cash you would recommend bringing to the Majestic Mirage+ Saona (for tips and such), assuming we have the all inclusive package. Also, would we need to exchange currency or do they take American currency there?
Thanks for watching! No need to exchange! They love the US dollar. We averaged about $20-40 in tips per day depending on what we were doing! Also for the Saona trip they have things you can buy etc. we spent about another $100 or so on tips, island drinks and massage etc
$1 USD is actually worth a lot in the dominican republic! my family always tipped $1-2 to our waiters or anyone who helped us at the resort! we gave $5 whenever we were feeling generous
Depends how old! There’s a lot of drinking and dancing and a little bit of shenanigans but not too bad. There was one child on ours and they seemed bored lol. Maybe look for one that does snorkeling etc
It was a private tour so they assured us that everything was safe and that the attendants would be watching over everything. I didn’t think about that honestly but there were no issues!
My country is wonderful 🇩🇴 😍
It’s Amazing. Muy hermosa

@@3Days3Noches thank you!!
🌞🌞
Such an amazing and thorough review!! thank you for sharing. Are you able to tip them in USD?
Thank you so much for watching!!! Yes! They love USD!!!
❤️
🤩🤩🤩
Thank you for this video. I’m going here on Tuesday. What time did you get to the island and what time did you guys leave
Thanks for watching! Omg I’m jealous lol!! We finally got to the island around 12:30 and then left around 2:30
Is there anyway to visit isla or saona without be there for the whole day ? I mean there is any excursion for half day ?
I guess it depends where you are staying. But I’m sure you go to the port and find a trip there
Thank you , this video was great, very informative!! I have a question, how long was the ride back on the speed boat?
Thank you! It was about 40 minutes. The catamaran over was 1 1/2 hours I think lol
@@3Days3Noches great, thank you so much!
You’re Welcome!!
My question exactly. I am.going next year
Do you think excursions should be booked before or once you get to the resort ?
I usually book them before but have waited too long
Going in Aug with children and the speed boat is my only concern are their other excursions to the island that you recommend?
I think most of them incorporate the speedboat to make it a shorter day
Got it !!! Have you ever flown into Santo Domingo Airport? If so do you have any hotel transportation that offer sprinter van? Amstar only offers mini vans from
That airport location
@RaaavingReviews I have not!
@@3Days3Noches aww man.... you should before aug and do a review lol jk thank you for responding !
how long was the tour? impressive review by the way
Thank you so much!! Pretty much all day by the time you get the bus, pick everyone else up etc. the actual tour was about an hour or so Catalan ride to the island. An hour and a half on the island then speed boat back around 30 minutes.
@@3Days3Noches i was asking because my return flight from punta cana is at 7:30PM so i was trying to see if can do this tour on my last day and still
be able to make it the airport by 5:30pm .. u remember by what time they drop u guys off after the tour
We got dropped off right around 5:30. But if you got your own transportation to and from the dock you probably could
$10 for a coconut, $40 massage? You been had!
Definitely for Punta Cana but I live to do it for the experience and the people. But not for everyone which is why I do these videos!!! Just got back from Mexico. Next video coming soon 🤗🤗
How did you book this trip to the island? Im staying at the majestic elegance and was wondering the best way to book.
We booked through the Majestic. They have an on-site tour company called Go Majestic.
Thanks for watching! The boat only stops at the island!
Eh......just as I feared, it looks like they took you to the Playa Bonita section. Do you know if there are any tours or public ferries that take you to the Mano Juan section?
Yes there are! There are lot of tour companies! We wanted to review the resorts tour so we stuck with that
@@3Days3Noches Thank you. I found one ;)
Awesome! I’m jealous lol
@@3Days3Noches agree needs to be done once. 🏝️
You said $10 for coconut is that US dollar?
Yes US dollar 😄
Hi can you tell me what food was on the island please. I know you said Dominican, but what does that consist off please
Sure. Rice, chicken and beans I think!!
🇩🇴🇩🇴🤟
Thanks for watching :)
@@3Days3Noches gracias a ti Bombón
Is there a way to get there without all the pick ups and having to waste time at the store?
Yes you can get your own transportation to the port!
Was curious have you been to Cancun and Isla Mujeres? If so how would you compare the 2?
Yes you have to!!!!
Question ... how long was the catamaran/natural pool before getting to the Island?
Thanks for watching. I want to say it was like 20-30 minutes
How Long was the speed boat trip back to the port
25-30 minutes
I booked this trip. Do u think it's kid friendly? we have a 6 and 15 yr old
Fun! There were a few kids on it. There’s a lot of dancing and drinking lol. So if your kids don’t mind that or you don’t mind that lol.
Which way you suggest to book for isla saona? Front desk at the hotel i plan to stay ?
You can! I also
Love this app and book a lot of excursions because I can read the reviews. www.viator.com/?pid=P00070138&mcid=42383&medium=link&medium_version=selector
Is your area on the island exclusive to your excursion company? or do you have a whole lot of other groups showing up at your location?
You have multiple groups showing up but it didn’t feel over crowded
How do you book through the go majestic? I’m Booked for majestic mirage end of this month
Thanks for watching!! Through their what’s app 18295994937
Also if you liked this video we have more coming! I’m going to The Majestic in Cancun to compare so please subscribe so that you know when it’s uploaded 😁
Thank you for the info. I will be a subscriber
Thank you so much!
I heard there’s a really cool sea turtle sanctuary on This island. Is it accesssible to tourists??
Oh really? They didn’t mention it!
I would do this IF I can get my own taxi to the port and bring me back. No way will I spend 3 hours picking people up and being rinsed in shops. I will enquire if it is possible
Me too never again!
I saw everyone in the Dominican Republic turban.. was it complimentary?
Thanks for watching! I don’t understand the question!
@@3Days3Noches the thing that was on your head with the colours of the Dominican flag
Oh!!! Yes they gave them out on the boat 😁
Were they able to bring kids on trip
Yes!
We went to Saona and there was a lot of coral where we could hardly walk. Did you experience this?
Really?? No not at all! The sand was white and smooth
They probably took us to a bad location.
:( I’m sorry
Very unfortunate. The sandbar they should take you to should have a nice sandy bottom with some starfish around mainly. True ocean paradise!
I'm overweight. How was the ladder to get back up on the cat?
Thanks for watching! We had all shapes and sizes on the boat and it seemed okay!!
how long were you actually on the island?
Hi! About an hour and a half.
What currency do they take on the island? Dominican Peso or US dollar?
Hi! Both us and Canadian & peso and also Euro but they prefer us. Currently $1 us =.50 pesos
Thank you!
Was there a toilet on the boat to the island ?
Yes there was! But it was tiny and nasty lol
Did you bring a backpack or beachbag with you?
Yes! Each one of us were allowed to bring a bag. The backpack was perfect! We brought sunscreen, towel and change of clothes etc
🥳🥳
Is it adult only? I am going with my 12-year -old
It is not! There were a few kids there
Hi, Thanks for the video.
Would you say it’s kid friendly ?
Depends how old! There’s a lot of drinking and dancing and a little bit of shenanigans but not too bad. There was one child on ours and they seemed bored lol. Maybe look for one that does snorkeling etc
Is there a link for this particular tour company?
We booked it through the hotel so I’m not sure!!! Sorry :(
Is there a safe place to put your bag and wallet while swimming?
It was a private tour so they assured us that everything was safe and that the attendants would be watching over everything. I didn’t think about that honestly but there were no issues!
Hi, how long is the boat to island?
Hi! We took a catamaran out which I think was a little over an hour. But then the speed boat back was like 30 minutes
$10 for a coconut???!!! 🌴 🥥
Those are 50 pesos ($1.00 US) everywhere on the island. 😅☹️
I knowww. I didn’t mind supporting the cause lol
What day did you ? On a week-end ?
It was a Tuesday!
2 hours on the island??????
Not even!!
