I've been thinking about buying a Steyr for a while. I agree with you with use and damage in the field with walnut but what a beautiful piece of wood that it. Always very pleasing to the eye in my opinion. I don't know if can but I do appreciate when there is BOTH a desk top and range / field test. That would be very beneficial to see how the head sits in rifle when prone ....live firing to see how the trigger actually feels as many dry fired feel very different with your eye through the sight. PLEASE more field tests too.

Lovely looking rifle and as much as you could interesting review.I feel it’s bit like being given a Ferrari but no ignition key’s,, needs to be used in the field and a full review given,
    Regards Gary

That is a great traditional looking rifle, would be great to see a full review, and how the Monte Carlo stock compares to the more modern looking offerings.

Thanks for the review! The wood on your rifle looks much nicer than the videos and pictures I’ve seen of the SM12s sold in the USA. It also looks to be an oil finish versus lacquer? But maybe it’s just the lighting?
In all fairness I haven’t seen an SM12 in person. But from the pictures I’ve seen of samples for sale on Gunbroker and other sources here in the USA, the quality of the wood and metal finish looks disappointing for the price which is around $4000 USD. Don’t get me wrong, Steyr makes a great rifle and I own an SSG69. But in the USA I can buy a mint 1980s vintage Sako AV with beautiful wood and a high polished blue finish for half the cost of the Steyr.

Ideally a full review video would be better, I like unboxing videos, but they don’t show it’s true colours. I mean as the saying goes don’t judge a book by it’s cover! I’d like the nitty gritty please.

I have the Steyr CLII in 3006. I saw it on display at a gun store and purchased it. I had another 3006 but that kicked like hell. Was very uncomfortable to shot. When l shoot the Steyr l could not believe how well it shots. There was barely a felt recoil. Only wish is l could have done with a single set trigger.

Matte finish, pretty nice wood, basic oil finish. Not sure why these command such a premium.

really nice gun, but that safety absolutely sucks. why wreck a gun with that garbage safety, why try and invent the wheel again and make it more complicated? what is the point of that?
