Right now I'm more of a gamesense player because I don't know a whole lot of even beginner mechanics, but I can still judge roughly where the ball is going to end up and where I should be to take advantage of that. Helped me get to Gold 3 without even learning to dribble lol which I should do asap... Anyway, this video was really helpful to shed some light on exactly why some of these things are super important and very helpful, so I will definitely remember this info!
I'm having an issue with positioning. In Diamond 1 1v1s, I'm finding it's best to not challenge the ball unless my opponent is about to shoot. Instead I find it better to lead the ball (shadow defence) and keep making occasional touches on the ball in an attempt to make my opponent screw up so that I can take it safely. But I've started playing 2v2s lately. I've gotten to Diamond 3 and I've hit a wall here. I'm finding that my teammates like to challenge the ball in a 50/50 a LOT. Even if there's no chance of them even getting to the ball on time. Sometimes this works out in our favour, but more often than not it results in me having to face 2 opponents solo while my teammate is recovering and rotating. I don't know how to deal with these frequent 2v1 scenarios and what I can do to prevent them from happening. It used to be even worse when I was first man and I decided the challenge isn't worth it so I slow down to see what the opponent is doing and my teammate rockets past me to challenge putting both of us out of position. I've stopped this now by simply rotating behind my teammate whenever I decide the challenge isn't worth it. Sure it means that the opponent has lots of space to do whatever they want and nobody's defending against him, but it's better than both me and my teammate being put out of position to protect the goal from long shots. There are a few times that my teammates have said I'm useless and just sit back and let my teammate do all the work. So I decided to oblige them and challenge 50/50s unconditionally like they do and all that resulted in was my teammate ending up in 2v1 scenarios. And honestly as arrogant as it sounds, I don't think many Diamond 3s are better individual players than me. They panic too much when the ball is near the goal and they over-commit every interaction they make. Diamond 1 1v1 players feel like significantly better players than Diamond 3 2v2s in my opinion and I honestly feel like I'm a better individual player than others in Diamond 3. I just can't seem to figure out 2v2 positioning and gameplay. Too much of it seems wasteful and pointless. You say first man needs to challenge for the 50/50. But why? Why can't you just simply let them make their play and take the ball from them when they inevitably screw up? This leaves the second man free to be a fine backup if things go wrong or steal the ball if it roams free. If first man challenges for a 50/50 all the time even if he knocks the ball away from the opponent, he still might not gain control of the ball. That means the second man is forced forward into play while the first man stumbles around boostless and out of play. Often leaving the second man in a 2v1 scenario. Sure sometimes a 50/50 makes sense. But making it a rule when it should be an exception sounds stupid af.

The main thing that helped me in 2v2 is fake challenging. I was so used to just taking a 50 whenever I'm first man (in 3v3) but just driving up and turning without going for the ball is much safer and often gives posession to your teammate while you have a better recovery

Hey Thanovic, great video, but i think some things need to be said that should have been said. Let me share some of my constant struggles. For Example, How many times you do you see a teamate (usually 3rd) man cross the field to play the ball on the wall in the offensive zone. For example: you've just cleared the zone, and 1st car is taking the ball downfield along the wall, but the defensive team is ready to hit that ball back towards that wall again. Usually you have 2nd man playing wall back up for this play - so he can play the ball back into the goal or set up a cross field pas to 3rd man while 1st man rotates back. But often what happens is 3rd man comes across the field and essentially tries to beat his own 2nd man to the ball resulting in a double commit, and an exposed net. So i think as dos and donts on team play rotate Video would be awesome, cause its one of my biggest pet peeves to see happen in 3s rotation. The other issue i see a lot is 1st man in rotates back to 2nd position and thus cucks 2nd man, and often means a bad play from the 1st man going back to position 2. Essentially i see 3 man team play 2s rotation while 3rd man sits back waiting for when he can go in and take a touch, while the 1st 2 guys in never clear the zone. This is especially bad at Diamond/Champ level, which is sadly where i am. Lastly in 2s, the one of the biggest and dumbest moves i constantly the following scenario: 1st man plays the ball into the corner, defensive team blocks sending that ball upward into the corner. 1st man needs time to clear out, but i often see 2nd man come slamming in to force the ball back to the middle, and now you have both of you in the corner with the defensive team having a wide open field to play back against your goal. If your that 2nd man trying to force that ball back to middle, ask your self - Who are you passing to? I mean really? there's only 2 of you. You cant be going deep into the corner as the 2nd man, without seeing your teamate run back. Its just plain dumb and Selfish players that are too ball focused.
Can you make a video explaining how to rotate in the lower ranks because no one will usually rotate. What can I do to be a good “3rd man” without staying in net all game?
What are your thoughts on cutting rotations, when for example a teammate isn't there to fill in a position? When I was lower ranked I had some problems with this issue. Would like to hear your take on that.
I know this is an old comment and you have probably already figured this out on your own… BUT if you are solo qing your goal is to control the game by playing around your teammates. If they aren‘t rotating, then there‘s no point in you rotating, you‘ll just get dunked on. If they‘re ball hogging, be defensive. If they‘re too defensive be aggressive - fill the gaps left by your teammates in order to increase your chances of winning.
Great video, most of the tuto that i wached start with talking about p1 p2 (and p3) but just saying tht rotation depend on the rank and the abilty of each player is great !
lovely video! I needed a refresher on positioning so this video is perfect. usually try to learn from the pros, but these sorts of breakdowns are awesome. cheers Thano!
I see many pros defending in the goal and staying near post but slightly looking far post. It covers back post so you wont get flicked over and will get faster to far post and avoid hard shots. Definitely something important that nobody except pros does.
Hey, ich really love your channel. Could you do a video about backflips (better use, pro use, how to), because I searched for it on RUclips and I didn't find any material on this. It is a prominent aspect in my gameplay and even though I'm not ranked that high, I think it can be useful even for very good players. If your that 2nd man trying to force that ball back to middle, ask your self - Who are you passing to? I mean really? there's only 2 of you. You cant be going deep into the corner as the 2nd man, without seeing your teamate run back. Its just plain dumb and Selfish players that are too ball focused.
u are rlly helping me become a better player
The quality of your videos lately is amazing bro! Love it
I have an amazing editor. Tornado steps it up to a new level
@@Thanovic you guys are doing well together man! Keep it up🔥
Can you make a video explaining how to rotate in the lower ranks because no one will usually rotate. What can I do to be a good “3rd man” without staying in net all game?
That is the video about rotation. If they don’t rotate you cannot force them, just play it safe
Great vid, come back to this now and then if I feel my positioning has been crap, so so helpful honestly, thanks for the great tips
WE NEED PART TWO WITH MORE ADVANCED STUFF ON THIS SUBJECT PLEASE
you make very good video then pro rocket league youtuber when ever I see your tips and tricks or any other think video i learned from your video
Your videos are chill and enjoyable to watch and quite helpful as well. As a F2P player I took a lot from those videos especially when i started
Great video, most of the tuto that i wached start with talking about p1 p2 (and p3) but just saying tht rotation depend on the rank and the abilty of each player is great !

im a plat solo player that plays and win mainly by rotating when nessicery but I still need lots of work so so this video helps.
I really apppreciate your attention to quality visual presentation. Keep up good work, u helped me a lot and probably im not the only one :)
I think this video impacted my lobbies poggers
This was very informative thank you
this video was coaching level content w thanovic
I see many pros defending in the goal and staying near post but slightly looking far post. It covers back post so you wont get flicked over and will get faster to far post and avoid hard shots. Definitely something important that nobody except pros does.
I like how you said near post and far post. Like real soccer. Ha ha
I love youre video's and I always learn from them
thanks alot i found perfect video for my friend
Thanks Thanovic I really enjoyed it and it helped me to
Thank you so much for this video.
Hey, ich really love your channel. Could you do a video about backflips (better use, pro use, how to), because I searched for it on RUclips and I didn't find any material on this. It is a prominent aspect in my gameplay and even though I'm not ranked that high, I think it can be useful even for very good players. And I can't imagine that I'm the only one of millions of players who thought about it, so what's the deal with backflips? (outside of half-flips of course)
Damn I was searching for this kinda video this week and had a hard time. Appreciate the content bro, love for the vids
I'm honestly grateful, helped a lot. You deserve so much!
