This song brings me back to my happiest and darkest hours...this song has been with me through some shit folks. From lying there cuddling with my girl and having deep conversations with this in the background, to when I was in my room empty inside after being cheated on. Either way, this song made me feel better. THIS IS MUSIC!! Thank you Rob Scallon for this beautiful masterpiece.
Dude I feel the exact same way. I even feel extreme nostalgia if I accidentally put this on a regular night and start tearing up for no apparent reason
Its funny how, from the same music, you´ve fed fillness and emptiness feelings. Does this tell anything about your psychology love setting to you? Hope you´re okay already
On the day of your death, many who were touched by your music will return to the internet and listen to the songs you have done and feel your very essence. This is your immortality Mr.Scallon.
Can't believe it's 10 years old already. I was still a schoolman going in my senior year living at grandmas old soviet bloc unrenovated room. With laptop and this music I felt hella futuristic. Wow time flies.
i agree man and its so ambient and clean i love it!!!!! kids you don't have to get an 8 string plug it into an axe fx and then tight chug people need to be original like Rob is. Kudos to you rob :). I love that tone man its so clean and pure sounding, great job.
As a fingerstyle guitarist myself, I really appreciate this piece. I'm so happy to see somebody *truly playing an extended-range guitar* instead of using the low tuning like a percussion instrument like so many metal-heads are doing. It's wonderful that fingerstyle and classical styles of playing are becoming more popular and getting more attention from guitarists who otherwise would just be chord-chopping. Music has to evolve to stay relevant, and this is an excellent example of that ideal in practice. Hopefully more musicians wake-up and stop all the copy-cat crap and carve their own path like Mr. Scallon here. Fantastic!
+Brandon Veracka Because your way to play an 8 string guitar is the only right way. No matter how you look at it, the only way an instrument can be percussive is if it involves some form of a stick or hammer whacking something else, and I don't see many deathcore and metalcore bands whacking their guitars with sticks and hammers. I love this beautiful piece for what it is, but I still think that the badass djent style is more for me any day as long as there's lead guitar played over it, like The Raven Autarchy or Ascariasis do. I love the sound of a distortion and to me it sounds great as long as you don't play more than 3 or maybe 4 max notes at the same time, but having a lead guitar, a harmony guitar playing a generic third above it, and a rhythm guitar playing a breakdown, is what sounds the most beautiful to me of anything. I don't think that everyone needs to do this to play right though, and you need to get your ego in check because you haven't stated anything but your opinion yet you also claim everyone should be doing as you say. Just give it a rest, because people like what they like, and as long as they don't impose it as the right way like you do, then it's fine.
Alucard the Aichomancer You are assuming my comment means that anyone who doesn't play fingerstyle is stupid; that is NOT what I said...not even close. In metal, flat-picking is *definitely* the most popular method because it works well with the genre. I never said there was a right or wrong way to play your guitar, nor did I say everyone should play that way. You completely misunderstood that comment.
Brandon Veracka Sorry for the misunderstanding but I was misled by you saying "truly playing an extended range guitar" so yeah my bad I suppose I want to get a 7 or 8 string just so that I can do my djenty stuff without having to constantly switch my 6 string back and forth between standard tuning and 6 semitones down in drop G#. I love shredding and making breakdowns, and even if I had just a 7 string I just need to tune it half a step down and drop the lowest string to have the exact same range as my guitar now but I can still shred without my higher strings bending like rubber every time I touch them (by the way breakdowns and solos sound badass when you sandwich them in between eachother man)
+Brandon Veracka I actually play in standard tune. I don't like going a half step down, because it would be a pain in the arse to tune it back. Besides, I have learned over the years to play in the standard tuning. I am not anywhere close to Rob's talent. But I play with heart, and do my absolute best. I have a long ways to go though. All aside, Rob is an amazing and talented musician. What a huge inspiration he is. Makes me want to pick up my axe, and try much harder.
atranfanatic Practice, practice, practice; it's the only way to hone your skill. Not to mention, at some point during hours of practicing, you come to really enjoy it--at least I do. I've been (strictly speaking) unemployed for a couple of years now and I play so much that I've come to really like it--almost like "second nature" or whatever you like to call it. I've definitely found quite a bit of inner peace (and honed my playing skills a lot) since I started practicing more seriously. Even if you've got a full-time job if you set an hour a day aside to practice--and be sure to really practice and not just jam with yourself--then you'll grow in ways you never thought possible. As for talent, while some of us are undoubtedly born with a flair for music, you CAN become talented through sheer dedication. I always try not to let the "amazingness" of my guitar heroes get me down and thinking "I'll never be THAT good". We can ALL achieve amazing things! Good musicianship and playing isn't all about technique, it's about heart, and if you've got that (as you said), then you're gonna go places musically if you keep on truckin'! Finally, when it comes to tuning, I've personally just enjoyed messing around with different ones. More recently I've met several guys who tune to either a higher or lower A standard. A friend of mine tunes to A444. I read an article about how tuning to A432 instead of A440 is apparently more pleasing to the human ear (as well as a whole bunch of weird pseudo-science-y stuff). Years ago--around the time of WWII--when A440 became the 'concert standard' many people protested; lots of French and Italian classical musicians wanted it to be A432. I've tried playing in both and it could be the placebo effect working on me, but I did find that playing in A432 had a "certain something" to it. If you'd like that article I can post the link. But anyways, it doesn't matter what tuning you play in so long as your music puts a smile on your face. ~Happy Playing to Ya!
I stumbled upon this song just mindlessly wandering around RUclips. I have found myself in a pretty depressing spot and I have listened to you play this about 7 times now... It's really beautiful brother. Thanks for sharing this with us
As soon as I saw 8 string I assumed it was gonna be some djent heavy stuff, but I'm amazed this has beautifully taken advantage of all 8 strings and not just for chugging! XD This is such an amazing piece of music :)

Five years after hearing this song for the first time, when I close my eyes and listen, I still get chills, butterflies, and tears building. This is truly a beautiful piece of work. I found this when I was going through a very deep depression, much like it seems others have, and Anchor, as well as many of your other songs, helped me get through it. hey thanks! glad you found me. I'm a bit fond of this location too. We actually wanted to film somewhere else this day but due to lack of equipment and limited time we couldn't. While bringing our things back inside we went through the laundry room and I was like... well...
Literally the only album I listened to during 2017. Sitting in my room on a cold winters night listening to a collapse, sitting out in the sunlight listening to anchor during the summer, and watching rain fall and lightning shoot across the sky while listening to Le Gentil & the Transit of Venus during the spring. So amazing and perfect.
I bought my son a Schecter sls 8 string, blackout pickups, dot inlays (no skulls or batwing shit) for his birthday. Awesome guitar, best present he ever got he reckons, plays gjent/metal in a band but is now watching the master, Rob Scallon for ideas and the capabilities of this guitar and styles. Let the young explore and create their own music and not be stymied by what we think guitars should sound like. Learning to play and improving is a life long journey that bring us endless hours of enjoyment. Keep the faith, we are all part of the guitar community, cheers.
I never get tired of your stuff, Rob. Every time I'm reading a good book, feeling relaxed, or just contemplating things, I always pop open your playlist and the minutes turn to hours. Keep doing what you do.
How did i run into both Sam and Rob here haha XD Like Rob said, dude, you honestly inspire me haha XD alot of my song writing style is inspired by you haha
It's been officially 10 years today, on July 3rd 2023 that this beautiful song was released! 🎉 Man time flies by... 😢 Thanks for all the great work and the music you do Rob; keep going and never stop! 💪😁
Imagine going to Guitar Center asking for their 24 fret 8-strings and when you want to try it out, instead of hearing Hardass Djent, you play beautiful clean stuff like this.
The dryer to Rob's left is a (approximately) 1995/6 Whirlpool Dryer and for a brief second at 1:03, you see that it isn't a matched washer, as its an Estate (also by Whirlpool, but a cheaper model). Probably around 2001-2002. That means the washing machine was older to Rob sitting on it than this comment is to Rob making the video. Cheers.
Here I am back again 4 years later.....I listened and shared this with so many people and It was the sound track for so many memories made. Listening to it now just brings it all back. Thank you again, Rob for a magical piece of music that now has a special place in my life forever/
When I first started learning how to play guitar back in 7th grade, I remember coming across yours and Jared's channels. I was amazed how both talented you guys were and remember how one day I would be able to play good as you guys. Now, here I am starting my senior year of high school, able to play this song and write my own music. I know you probably won't see this but it was because of your channel that I was wanting to learn how to play your songs that made me want to continue.
I just discovered you...This is musical instead of a shred fest. I'm feeling the summer right now here in Washington, I can hear the river here and in this tune....
No lyrics, no words. Pure melody, and it keeps me here. Like an anchored vessel. Thank you very much Rob, your music helps me to keep moving, even though the process is very slow. Thank you very much.

The first time I have ever heard Rob's music was tonight at the Dallas show. He opened with this song and I immediately fell in love. After the show I bought the Anchor EP. I'm just in such awe of the talent he has. Please keep playing music, man. This is so great.
I came back to hear this song after about two years and damn it fucking hits like the first time. Thank you rob for uploading not only funny skits but also this beautiful music. You've been one of my favorite youtubers since I found your channel :)
You will take away my heart Sir....i've been following you and your playing style for two years now and it helped me a lot to uplift my playing skills.
This song couldn't be any better...its so...perfect. like it has reached its full potential. I don't get how someone can make a guitar sound sooo beautiful. A very excellent piece of work Rob! My all time favorite 8 string song
This song is one of the milestones that mark the beginning a very musical and happy part of my life, which I am still living right now. Thank you so much, Rob, for being one of those musician who taught me that making music was fun, not about technicality, not about money or fame, labels or audience, but just about expressing whatever you want however you want, and living a happy life.
My girlfriend just put me in the friendzone after dating for almost 16 months. This song is the only thing getting me through this...Thanks Rob for the amazing song
Thiago Peres I know what you mean, it sounds simple in terms of some of the melodies, but playing with both hands in sync, nailing the timing, and mastering his 'sprint' technique, are more difficult in my opinion :). It is a great song.
I remember going to Chicago to finally see what's like to be in the place you grew up in .... I remember going out for walks and sharing the earphones just so we can both jam out .. it was the best thing ever . I'll never forget the fun amazing times I had with you , cause this song will always remind me of you
Rob, I've been following you for a few years and I think I've seen all your videos, but only tonight I cried, is been a hard day and your music is flowing! Thanks!
nice to see an 8 string used for something other than djent
+Logan Finn Clearly you've never heard of Mestis or animals as leaders
animals as leaders is djent you have lost

Animals as leaders only has a couple of songs that's are djent ish like CAFO for example but most songs like physical education are not djent at all

Sooo can we get a reupload of Anchor on your signature?
you deserve a cookie. a big fat cookie!
+Fernando Mateo Aww thanks.
+Jake Thornton He plays it on his new signature for a second in one of Jared's recent vids. But yes I'd LOVE to see a full rerecording.
+metalmusician6798 Yeah I saw that. A lot of his ambient clean tunes could use a signature re-upload.
+Jake Thornton Definitely! A lot of times the EMG pickups don't work to the cleans' advantage (specifically in his 9 string stuff).

You're a super talented guitar player btw Sam!
seen a few of your videos before while searching the web for 8 string stuff
Hi Rob, sorry for the late reply! Thanks dude means alot coming from you :)
How did i run into both Sam and Rob here haha XD Like Rob said, dude, you honestly inspire me haha XD alot of my song writing style is inspired by you haha
Maybe the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
It's been officially 10 years today, on July 3rd 2023 that this beautiful song was released! 🎉 Man time flies by... 😢
Thanks for all the great work and the music you do Rob; keep going and never stop! 💪😁
Even the gentle buz of the drone is soothing.
Still listening to this 10 yrs later your still killing it love it!!! DONT GIVE UP!!!!
Imagine going to Guitar Center asking for their 24 fret 8-strings and when you want to try it out, instead of hearing Hardass Djent, you play beautiful clean stuff like this.
watching this reminds me that I am not a musician, merely a guy with a drumkit.
This is real beauty man, you're a gem !
hey man, percussion is still music. don't down yourself like that.
Still one of the best guitar songs I've ever heard, what a masterpiece.
dude yoour tapping is so flawless
Almost 7 years later, still can't stop coming back to this masterpiece of a song. Thanks Rob.
Listening to this song for so many years now. Wow the time flies
I keep coming back to this song, It's an all time favorite of mine and you're an inspiration for me on guitar rob \m/
this is really chill and relaxing
The dryer to Rob's left is a (approximately) 1995/6 Whirlpool Dryer and for a brief second at 1:03, you see that it isn't a matched washer, as its an Estate (also by Whirlpool, but a cheaper model). Probably around 2001-2002. That means the washing machine was older to Rob sitting on it than this comment is to Rob making the video. Cheers.
I haven’t listens to this in forever. And I’m now taken back to a time where I was happy and calm :)
i would have never guessed that you'd actually use more then one string.
Great stuff
What happened with your videos man?
Here I am back again 4 years later.....I listened and shared this with so many people and It was the sound track for so many memories made. Listening to it now just brings it all back. Thank you again, Rob for a magical piece of music that now has a special place in my life forever/
rob scallon quite possibly is the best musician I've ever fucking seen!
This song and the Scar Tissue Solo always make me emotional.
Saw him play this live last night, it was amazing!
No lyrics, no words.
Pure melody, and it keeps me here.
Like an anchored vessel.
Thank you very much Rob, your music helps me to keep moving, even though the process is very slow.
Thank you very much.
This is amazing. Great work Rob.
is it really you, they said you died 7 years ago.

Well lay low off the snow this time Billy, we need you to sell more Oxy-Clean and Kaboom !!
I came for metal on random instruments. I'll stay for this. Subscribed.
You've been one of my favorite youtubers since I found your channel :)
i wonder how cool it be if rob had his own math rock band...
He could single-handedly bring American football back.
+Thomas Higgins lol
Thomas Higgins European football is better
+Xiao Lang do you mean football as in kicking and flopping or football as in American football played in Europe?
Underrated genre. Btw the guitar tone sounds very similar to Clever girl ;)
You will take away my heart Sir....i've been following you and your playing style for two years now and it helped me a lot to uplift my playing skills.
first ever non d-jent 8 string video
Hardly.
Nope, the band Rings Of Saturn, they use 8 string guitars.
Lezz be honest, there is defiantly djent in animals as leaders..
Animals as leaders
***** >AaL
>not djent
Kek.
so i'm assuming you have a HUGE taste in music
always good to have a variety
guitar of the dead I agree, variety is good! Rob's songs definitely opening up my guitar playing in terms of playing different styles, genres.
i started playing latin before i played metal
+guitar of the dead A lot of metal guitarists learned to play classical music as well.
This song couldn't be any better...its so...perfect. like it has reached its full potential. I don't get how someone can make a guitar sound sooo beautiful. A very excellent piece of work Rob! My all time favorite 8 string song
Nice to see an 8 string used for something ohter than chugging :) Great job!
That moment at 0:47 :o
I like 0:55 better.
I really like 0:00 - 4:00
EXPLOSIVEDURP r/woosh
The moment when he played the guitar was amazing.
2:30 too
Never realized how good an 8 string sounds clean. Has a really warm sound when you strum all the strings.
im gonna have to practice this song in guitar center haha
I still come back here after so many years.
This song is one of the milestones that mark the beginning a very musical and happy part of my life, which I am still living right now. Thank you so much, Rob, for being one of those musician who taught me that making music was fun, not about technicality, not about money or fame, labels or audience, but just about expressing whatever you want however you want, and living a happy life.
this is beautiful music!!! that bass tone!! nicee
it's nice have the bass built right in haha
This is video is his profile pic
oh shit
Rowan Indgjer now with his signature guitar😑💛
even all these years later, this song is still very soothing to listen to. nice job.
My girlfriend just put me in the friendzone after dating for almost 16 months. This song is the only thing getting me through this...Thanks Rob for the amazing song
Simple, but yet, beautiful!
Simple? Far from simple!
Yes it is😂
Thiago Peres adtr is simple. This is not.
Thiago Peres I know what you mean, it sounds simple in terms of some of the melodies, but playing with both hands in sync, nailing the timing, and mastering his 'sprint' technique, are more difficult in my opinion :). It is a great song.
Rob makes me cry at times.Such a nostalgic piece of music .
Don't stop man
Thanks for watching!
*stands up* *5 minutes applause*
I always come back to this one. Great job, Rob!
Another absolutely beautiful song..Thank you,Rob.This reminds me of a very dear and close friend of mine that i love so very much.
:)
виртуоз..
супер..уважаю..
I also play on my washing machine from time to time.
I remember going to Chicago to finally see what's like to be in the place you grew up in .... I remember going out for walks and sharing the earphones just so we can both jam out .. it was the best thing ever . I'll never forget the fun amazing times I had with you , cause this song will always remind me of you
The whole time, I was imagining how good this would sound with some sax in the background. Then I thought about how naughty I thought that sounded
Rob is his own genre
It takes some balls to open tune an 8 string and play such beautiful tunes. Love coming back to this, such an icon of a song.
I listened to this with my boyfriend stoned a few months back. Amazing.
Imagine Rob doing a soundtrack for an anime or a video game.
Rob, I've been following you for a few years and I think I've seen all your videos, but only tonight I cried, is been a hard day and your music is flowing! Thanks!
emotions , butterflies..
