Hi Jason, the connectors are called "Car Wire Tap Connector". You can get them from Amazon or many local stores. As far as which cable for the D2b wake up, I think I just used a voltmeter to figure out which one would give electricity when I turned the car on. (Sorry it's been a few years and honestly don't remember! I read a comment in this thread that someone already had a coupler in their system when they opened it, and they used that. So I'm not sure if there might be one in yours as well when you take out the components. The thing is, if you take everything apart and have to wait for delivery of a coupler, you either have to put it back together while you wait for delivery or leave it all open during that time.
This is such a great video! I think I'm going to finally upgrade my head unit! I have a question, how did you get your start/stop button to work without the card? Thanks
You need to turn on the car headlights. If you turn on the car headlights and they still don’t light up, it means that the CAN decoder does not recognize the headlight turn-on signal. You can connect the ILL line on the power cord of the Android radio to the ACC line or pull one cable from the fuse box. Wire the ILL and the car headlight wire together. When ILL has DC 12V. The button light will light up.
thank you got it still having problem with the sound is there anything else i have to by pass with the fiber optic and do i have to connect the 2 green wires from the unit to the canbus? hhank you
Hi, there are two different types. D2B and MOST. I think after 2004 they are all MOST, but you should double-check that as it's been a while since I installed mine.
I'm not a 100% sure but can bus helps the car communicate with the stereo. So maybe it's possible to use the stereo but it wouldn't turn on and off with the car. Also I don't think any of the steering controls will work without it. This article goes in detail about it: android-headunits.com/what-is-the-can-bus-box-with-an-android-head-unit/ Hope that helps.
Good video, I have mounted a radio just like yours and I have a problem that you may be able to solve: the four buttons on the left side of the steering wheel change stations at the same time as the instrument panel menus change.
Look under setting/car setting/factory settings. There are options in there for buttons. I haven’t played with them much yet, so can’t be sure it will work. It will require you to enter a password to get into factory settings. On mine it’s 318. Might be the same for you.
Thanks Amir for the video. I'm looking to change my command system in my 2003 SL which is the same D2B as yours. One question. My car doesn't have the premium sound option so I'm guessing it doesnt have any amplifyer installed and the fiber optic cables in the back of the existing stereo are just going to the CD changer. Do you know if this is right?
HiAmir. really thanks so much for the great video i have been looking into upgrading my audio system for ages but could not justify replacing speakers, amps and rewiring because of the D2B technology Now with this new D2B decoder we have a choice. i was also considering the purchase of the Chinese head unit vs a name brand unit such as alpine Finally i decided to go with the Chinese unit just because it will maintain the look of the car So i ordered it and now waiting to receive it. i have a few questions /issues that i am still puzzled with 1. the current command system controls the setup of time and as i realized this unit does not 2. carplay is a must for me and need to see how to achieve it with this unit 3. reverse camera : what are the best options given the complexity of the trunk due to the cabrio roof 4. i have also read some comments regarding the unit booting up time and/or not shutting off when car is off. i would really appreciate any help or comments BTW i have replaced my ABC system with struts and sway bars and can offer info to anyone that is considering it
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll try and answer your questions the best that I can. 1. The head unit won't control the time. I actually unplugged the rear battery and re connected it at noon during the last daylight savings! Lol I have read on a forum that you can change the time using the instrument cluster, but haven't tried looking for it yet. 2.The unit comes with two USB ports and when you connect the phone, it can mirror your screen. But I hardly use that because it shows everything in portrait mode and you can't interact with the phone from the head unit, so it's kinda pointless. I have played around with an app called AirScreen on an android phone using to cast from my iPhone and it looks promising as far as showing navigation in landscape mode without the phone having to be turned to the side. AirScreen works wirelessly using a WiFi network. I haven't installed it on this head unit yet, but if I do and get good results I'll post it. But keep in mind that you still can't control the phone from the screen. I think I've seen some CarPlay units out there for sale. 3. I think the reverse camera that comes with the unit is an eyesore, so I ended up buying a license plate frame that has the camera built in and it looks much better. As far as installation, it is a bit tricky. I did a video a while back with a Wifi Backup camera and the wiring for the trunk is exactly the same. Here is a link for it: ruclips.net/video/kqGj_9rEls4/видео.html The only extra thing you would need is to feed the cable to the head unit, which is not too hard. I have a video that I never fished showing that process. I'll try to get that one done and post it as well. 4. The unit's start up time was a concern to me at first. But there is a setting that makes it go to sleep instead of shutting down and having to reboot every time. I mention it in this video, along with some other thoughts on the head unit itself. ruclips.net/video/nzeYK2gzYPQ/видео.html Hope this helps. If you have other questions feel free to ask. As far as ABC system and struts, I may take you up on that when the time comes. So far I've been pretty lucky with that.
@@SkydiveSim thanks again for the info and the answers. i will take all that in consideration and continue my research until the unit arrives. As far the ABC i had enough of the unstable system and replaced it all. Saved about 150 lbs of weight as well . I also added a smaller pulley and a software update that pushed the hp in the 600 range So i am pretty please with it. So now i need to bring it to a current century with the audio upgrade.
I got mine from AliExpress because it wasn’t available anywhere else at the time, but I don’t recommend them. If you have issues they aren’t easy to deal with. Pretty sure eBay has them now.
Hi, mine was already set for Mercedes logo. But if you go under settings then all the way to the bottom (I think) look for Factory Settings you can change it in there. If it asks for a pin try 318
The previous owner had taken out the park sensors so I never actually had them. What’s happening with yours? Didn’t think the command has anything to do with the sensors.
Hello Amir, great video very helpful, could you answer a few questions? Did you have any connectors from the original radio that were not used? Also, my radio came with two canbus connectors, called special canbus # 1 has 2 green wires the second called special canbus #2 this one is wrapped in foam and has the 2 green and two white wires, that same as in your video, do both of these get used or only the foam covered one? Did you use the GPS antenna that comes with the radio. Thanks
Hi Tami, it’s been a while so I can’t remember for sure if there were connectors that were not used. If you have the same head unit as mine, it did come with some extra adapters so not everything is used in every installation. I didn’t use GPS antenna that comes with it. I’m so used to using my phone for GPS that I don’t ever use GPS from any of the cars. Lol Hope I was able to help. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
You have to experiment to see which canbus you have. Simple enough, plug one in and if the stereo stays on when you turn the car off - it's the other one.
You can change the volume and change tracks. I did see a mic input on the back of the unit. Going to connect a mic and see how the Bluetooth calls work in the next few days.
I’ve now tested the Bluetooth with my iPhone and it works fine. Didn’t need to add a separate mic. Also you can answer and hang up from the steering wheel buttons.
The fiber optic decoder will support the factory Bose sound system. usually, Mercedes-Benz cars use the D2B fiber optic decoder for the production year 2001-2004. the Most fiber optic decoder for the production year after 2005
I’ve used the phone Bluetooth a few times and it sounds fine while I’m in the car. I will test it by having someone else in the car and me listening from a phone and let you know how that sounds.
Hi Amir, Great video and very helpful. At what point were you able to get the head unit to light up? I understand the fiber optics issue for the lack of sound currently, but I have connected everything (I think) and the head unit will not light up. Mine is a 2003. I believe I have the correct location for the Can Buss wire from the D2B box. I have used the +/- from the lighter to power the D2B box and all power tests correct. For the the D2B wire, I used the location you identified on the locking connector. Still no light up of the head. What am I missing? Could I have a fault in the Can Buss module that is blocking the can buss signal? I would have expected the head unit to light up after the original power connector was attached to the car and the Can buss adapter installed. Looking for suggestions to trouble shoot. Is pin 10 on the connector the correct can buss signal for the SL500? Also is the "key" connector used anywhere? I dont see a matching connector. And lastly, on the main connector bunble when I plug into the OEM connector, the other half of the connector is not connected to anything. Is that expected?
Hi Richard, to be honest it’s been a while since I installed mine so I’m not too sure about the details. You should be able to see the unit light up without connecting the fiber optics adapter. One thing to check might be the buttons on the Canbus are set correctly for you model. Also I would say double check the wiring for power against the parts in video. I would think it should be very similar. Mine is 2004 SL55.
@@SkydiveSim Ive check all the voltages and they are at 12.4v where + and the pin 10 D2B signal is 3.4v. looks like 3-5v is normal. I have power to the D2B fiber box also. I've also direct wired 12v to the positive from a desk power source with negative and nothing fires up. is there anther post that needs ACC power, or CAN BUS signal ie like the fiber box does to fire up? It does not close all the way. So now the car is at a specialist hoping that he could fix the roof.
Oh man, do you mean he damaged the hydraulic cylinder? As far as not getting sound in the rear speakers try this. Go to "Apps" then select "Amplifier" app. Once in there on the left side select "Fader". Make sure it is set to "All". If that doesn't do it, try moving the target icon on the vehicle image and see if that does anything. Let me know what happens. I'm curious to find out.

god.. though that just buying d2b adapter gona solve my problems... I got bose audio system and i am wondering if i do need to do bypass on amp too as you did? I do not have phone system in car but got cd changer.. is there away to skip amp bypass?
I read a comment in this thread that someone already had a coupler in their system when they opened it, and they used that. So I'm not sure if there might be one in yours as well when you take out the components. The thing is, if you take everything apart and have to wait for delivery of a coupler, you either have to put it back together while you wait for delivery or leave it all open during that time.
This is such a great video! I think I'm going to finally upgrade my head unit! I have a question, how did you get your start/stop button to work without the card? Thanks
Thanks. As long as the key fab is in my pocket the Start/Stop button works fine. I know some models used the card but mine came this way.
thank you for the video how do you get the lights to work on the unit my do not come on thank yoi
The button light will light up.
thank you got it still having problem with the sound is there anything else i have to by pass with the fiber optic and do i have to connect the 2 green wires from the unit to the canbus? hhank you
thank you so much i finly got it the fiber optic cupplers must be in perfect my was not that was the problem thanks agen
Hi, congratulations for the video. Does the decoder have to be specific to the car model or is any one fine?
Hi, there are two different types. D2B and MOST. I think after 2004 they are all MOST, but you should double-check that as it's been a while since I installed mine.
Hello amir, i just bought the headunit without a canbox that will be a problem ?
I'm not a 100% sure but can bus helps the car communicate with the stereo. So maybe it's possible to use the stereo but it wouldn't turn on and off with the car. Also I don't think any of the steering controls will work without it. This article goes in detail about it: android-headunits.com/what-is-the-can-bus-box-with-an-android-head-unit/
Hope that helps.
That doesn’t sound right to me. The fiber optics must be going to an amp. Are you saying you opened it up and didn’t see an amp?
HiAmir. really thanks so much for the great video
i have been looking into upgrading my audio system for ages but could not justify replacing speakers, amps and rewiring because of the D2B technology
Now with this new D2B decoder we have a choice. i was also considering the purchase of the Chinese head unit vs a name brand unit such as alpine
Finally i decided to go with the Chinese unit just because it will maintain the look of the car So i ordered it and now waiting to receive it.
i have a few questions /issues that i am still puzzled with
1. the current command system controls the setup of time and as i realized this unit does not
2. carplay is a must for me and need to see how to achieve it with this unit
3. reverse camera : what are the best options given the complexity of the trunk due to the cabrio roof
4. i have also read some comments regarding the unit booting up time and/or not shutting off when car is off.
i would really appreciate any help or comments
BTW i have replaced my ABC system with struts and sway bars and can offer info to anyone that is considering it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Here is a link for it: ruclips.net/video/kqGj_9rEls4/видео.html
The only extra thing you would need is to feed the cable to the head unit, which is not too hard. I have a video that I never fished showing that process. I'll try to get that one done and post it as well.
4. The unit's start up time was a concern to me at first. But there is a setting that makes it go to sleep instead of shutting down and having to reboot every time. I mention it in this video, along with some other thoughts on the head unit itself.
ruclips.net/video/nzeYK2gzYPQ/видео.html
Hope this helps.
Hi Amir where can I get the radio?
I got mine from AliExpress because it wasn’t available anywhere else at the time, but I don’t recommend them. If you have issues they aren’t easy to deal with. Pretty sure eBay has them now.
Hi there ! Just bought the same radio and I was wondering how did you do it to make the mercedes logo appear on the startup??
Hi, mine was already set for Mercedes logo. But if you go under settings then all the way to the bottom (I think) look for Factory Settings you can change it in there. If it asks for a pin try 318
@@SkydiveSim I’ll give it a try !
@@SkydiveSim thanks for the pin, I was able to enter the settings . However I don’t know how to change the intro logo . Do you know how to do it ?

Hi Amir, can tell me if your park sensor are working after installing the gps ?
Lol
Hope I was able to help. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
You have to experiment to see which canbus you have. Simple enough, plug one in and if the stereo stays on when you turn the car off - it's the other one.
What about handsfree on steering wheel?
You can change the volume and change tracks. I did see a mic input on the back of the unit. Going to connect a mic and see how the Bluetooth calls work in the next few days.
I’ve now tested the Bluetooth with my iPhone and it works fine. Didn’t need to add a separate mic. Also you can answer and hang up from the steering wheel buttons.
Can you change tracks on Spotify ?
Great video. Thanks
Nice video! A bit much for my level of mechanics. I am in Florida where are you?
Thanks. I’m in Houston.
Great video, thanks. Does this work with the Bose amp?
Yes it will work with the Bose amp. Depending on the year of your car you will need either a D2B or MOST fiber optics decoder.
@@SkydiveSim mine is an 02 so has D2B. Thanks for the reply
The fiber optic decoder will support the factory Bose sound system. usually, Mercedes-Benz cars use the D2B fiber optic decoder for the production year 2001-2004. the Most fiber optic decoder for the production year after 2005
Can you send me a link from where I can order all the necessary parts, including the player range.
I went ahead and added it in the description.

I have a 2003 with Bose. Do you know if the d2b converter works with Bose amp and speaker combo or only Hartman Kardon? Thanks Mike
@@mpearson2166 mine is the Bose amp and it works fine. From my understanding D2b was used on 2001 to 2004 models.
Great Video, Thank you! Can you comment on the quality of the Phone app?
I see an ACC post on the bottom of the radio listing, but this harness does not seem to need it. I've also direct wired 12v to the positive from a desk power source with negative and nothing fires up. is there anther post that needs ACC power, or CAN BUS signal ie like the fiber box does to fire up?
I am going to run a direct single longer Fiber Optic cable to the AMP. Any reason that would not work? Amp is under the CD player, right?
Hi Amir . Hope you are well . I need your advice/opinion on the installation. I have done the same exact install as you did(had a professional do it while watching your video) . Unfortunately i get sound out of the front speakers only and even though i connect Bluetooth and can make and receive calls i cant get Bluetooth audio. Emailed the chinese company and still have not received answer.
To add insult to injury the installer tried to pass a camera wire under one of the hydrolic pumps and damaged the roof .
@@SkydiveSim hi and thanks for the reply. I think he damaged the hydraulic cylinder. Awaiting for my mechanic for updates. I have tried the fader up and down but still no sound from rear speakers. I will try again once I get the car back hopefully with working roof.
@@aacyny8768 It would be more likely that he accidentally disconnected one of the switches for the roof. Does the roof not move at all and says visit workshop?
For the audio of the fader isn’t fixing it, it’s very likely that he plugged into the wrong RCA adapter.
@@SkydiveSim I hope you are right. I will check with him tomorrow As far as the RCA he connected the front left and right from the unit to the D2b decoder. Anyway. I don’t want to bother you more with this. The important sport is not to get the roof fixed and then I ll worry about the unit. Worse case scenario I ll either put the old command back or replace amplifier and speakers
