    It's basically a protest song about the standardized and sometimes propagandized education system that does not allow individualism and free thought. We are suppose to learn and follow the rule of society like everyone else, hence the term "all in all you're just another brick in the wall".

  • @PaulSmith-bb7lv
    @PaulSmith-bb7lv Год назад +2

    I think some other people have said this before. So please excuse me for saying it again. The "brick in the wall" is the common person. Vitally important to keep the wall intact and strong. But often not acknowledged for their contribution. Some teachers get a bit full of themselves and alienate their pupils. This is the message of the song. Teachers leave them kids alone.

  • @thefixer1905
    @thefixer1905 Год назад +2

    The "Wall" , referred to by Pink Floyd, is the wall of bias and prejudice every human develops in their lives (arrived at by their individual experiences through time). "Another Brick" is just the forced/directed experience designed to create particular bias and prejudices desired by the person using the force/direction (teachers/school in this case).
    The entire album is about the "Wall" we build around ourselves, either intentionally or through outside intentions (as the song 'Mother' illustrates).

    The term "Another Brick in the Wall" was a phrase used before biblical times. In general it is symbolic of describing a small part of the much larger whole. I believe the song is from the album/movie that is telling a story from the fictional singer named "Pink" and how he hated being subjected to being just another product and pushed through an institutional and cruel education system just to become another small part of society.

  • @lubos1207
    @lubos1207 Год назад +2

    I'd like to give you some guidance: Another Brick in the Wall pt.2 is actually a critique of the school system that all children in the UK experienced after WW2 in the 1950s. And it really wasn't pretty. Fortunately, in the late 1950s and early 1960s, school reform was introduced in Britain, which in turn helped enormously in the development of young people, and at all levels of education. Not everyone knows that all the members of Pink Floyd are university graduates (they studied architecture and art at Cambridge). And it is the new concept of schooling in secondary schools and universities that has enabled unprecedented development in all aspects of science, art and culture. Had it not been for this, there would probably not have been such a huge number of excellent books, plays, films and, of course, great bands.

    Now you need to see the movie! "The Wall" album is like a rock opera, and they made a movie of it directed by British filmmaker Alan Parker who passed a couple years ago. It's basically like the longest music video that you'll ever see, but it's a trip, and a real experience to include some pretty amazing art work and animation. When I was a teenager, it was still a thing. Seeing "The Wall", particularly under the influence of some sort of substance, was like a rite of passage.
    I don't want to spoil anything, but to answer what you said, the wall is basically the wall you psychologically build up inside to protect yourself, but that also completely leaves you isolated from the rest of the world around you.

    This song is from The Wall. The wall is a rock opera. Pink, a young man, is building a wall around himself to isolate himself because of frustration. In the second part,
    the wall tumbles down.

    Hola Bisscute, Cuando puedas deberias ver la pelicula the wall, alli tendras una idea mas profunda de lo que trata el tema, en el disco the wall una cancion es la continuacion de la anterior, todo el disco es como una sola cancion, y es un tren el efecto del comienza.

    This is actually 'Another Brick in the Wall' Part 2. This is how most radio stations broadcast it. The entire song is set up in 4 or 5 parts. I hope you'll get to listen to the entire album someday.

    Korn did a cover of this, and it did have faster moments in it if I remember right. Class of 99 also covered it, but that was for the soundtrack to the movie The Faculty, so I doubt it was that version.

    "You! Yes, you! Stand still, laddie!" All and all you're just another reason to build my wall and keep you out. I highly recommend two things: 1. Listen to Pink Floyd The Wall in it's entirety. 2. Listen to Another Brick In The Wall Parts 1, 2 (this one), and 3 from the album to gain a fuller context. It is pure genius.

    When you hear it on its own, Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) sounds just like an "I hate school" song that every schoolkid would agree with. Taken in the context of "the Happiest Days of Our Lives," which precedes it on the album, you realise that the teachers were genuinely cruel and sadistic, and psychological abuse was as much a part of school life as any class.
    Moving on to "The Hero's Return," (from the Final Cut) you get an insight into the teacher's side, trying to teach a bunch of unruly kids while fighting a lonely battle with PTSD in post-WW2 Britain.

    It is a 25 minute long song ( the whole song ). Most people only know of the first 5 parts ( it has 9 parts total ), Just get lost in the sounds. Enjoy your journey down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole.

    This song literally is "just another brick in the Wall" in one of the greatest concept albums ever written. Difficult to really understand without hearing the whole album (or watching the movie of cause).
    Many do not remember that soon after the release of the album young black kids in Soweto used these lyrics in protests against new rules about increased learning of the hated Africans language of the then still existing Apartheid regime in South Africa.
