- Hey friends, in this video you'll learn how to transform your voice using the vocoder plugin inside MainStage! This is one of my absolute FAVORITE things to do for fun in MainStage. I've known how to do it for a while but never got around to doing a tutorial video, until now! Once you learn how to do this you'll be trying out all sorts of crazy new sounds!

Your room lighting is so cool
Thank you!!
If I actually set this up, I'll be too tempted to break into "INTERGALACTIC, PLANETARY.....PLANETARY, INTERGALACTIC!!!" during run through. Awesome, thank you for sharing!! Constantly amazed at what this $30 program can do.
Right? MainStage is so deep, much to keep discovering :)
love the background music at the end!
Thanks!
you were constantly closing in on something emotional while singin, and at the end you kinda hit the right string man... sounded pretty heart felt that falsetto:)
Great stuff! I’d love to use this in SK, and I totally would use this!
Try it out! Let us know how it goes :)
It’s so cool last Sunday night I was talking to my wife about connecting a microphone to Mainstage 3 through an audio interface, and by doing that I could add reverb and compression to my mic. I even could possibly create a Talkbox effect to my mic. BUT THIS WAS JUST A THEORY IN MY HEAD, open up RUclips this morning and on my feed the first video was This video, I am so excited! Great tutorial very informative!
So cool! Love that timing, thanks for sharing! :)
Thanks for this! I’m definitely trying this out for some solo projects I’m working on!
Cool! You'll have to share some of what you're working on with us later, we would love to hear about it :)
thank you!!! Very Smart lesson!
Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the tutorial, i had already discovered the vocoder but I had a hard time setting it up
Your video really helped :)
So glad to hear that!
Awesome! I'm starting to get into MainStage
That's great!
Wow. Thanks! This is really helpful.
I'd love to give it a try as a pad. With the reverb effect, it sort of makes it very unique from other pad souds
Yes, absolutely!
Super! I had no idea !
Would totally use this live in worship. The idea is getting the lead vocals bussed back to my rig so I can utilize that instead of having to sing and match our worship leader.
Very good stuff!
sir! you are a blessing haha thank you for these videos!!
Interesting! Thanks for the info. It wouldn’t fit in our style of worship at this time but, I could see this being used if done tastefully.
It isn't for everyone, but it will be interesting to see if it's used more and more.
Hi David
You remember me, don't you? I asked you 2 years ago if we could use Mainstage to process certain voices (audio tracks) through Mainstage. And now this goes here exactly in the direction.... I'm curious how it will go on or we'll come back to my ideas...:-)
Greetings from Switzerland

Thank you so much!!!💯💯💯
So it doesn't work for me, I have a USB mic and when I choose voc for my signal it shows my midi keyboard working but there is no sounds. Pls help
Hi, if you're still having trouble feel free to reach out and let us know what you've tried so far and we can help! sundaysounds.com/contact
@@SundaySounds Make sure the levels are way up in the vocoder on the right side of it: did not work for me until I did this.
Oooooh!! I'm about to unleash a whole other level of sound. Stay tuned
We are here for it! Sounds awesome :)
It's so helpful. Thank you so much. Do you have any idea to setup as a vocal harmony sound in the app?
Was so excited to use this but can not get it to work. Set my Scarlett 2i2 as audio input and followed the instructions but just can't get it to work. I can hear my voice but it does no work as a vocoder. :( Am currently using my Juno DS vocoder but feel the Mainstage 3 one is better. Anyone else run into this problem?
Hi! Are you playing keys on the keyboard while speaking or singing into the mic?
@@SundaySounds Yes. I can hear my voice in SYN and VOC. If I set to SYN I can hear the sound. If I put it VOC I get my voice but no sound. Thought it might be the Scarlett but it is I can't figure it out. Thank you for your reply.

Trying to set this up and having some trouble. I have signal from the keyboard when I play the synth, but when I swap to VOC I lose signal. The keyboard still registers visually in MS, but there’s no audio coming out. My interface is set as the input and I’m using an SM-57. Ive also tried different mics.
Hi Taylor, check out these tips: support.sundaysounds.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034816454-I-can-t-get-the-vocoder-in-MainStage-to-work
Love it!
This will be way cool to produce some tracks. Awesome effect! I'm guesing it can be used in Garageband/Logic
Yes, Logic shares all the same plugins that MainStage has.
love it so funny
:)
We're using vocoder on a record that's being mixed now :)
Awesome!
Hello, we are using this in our worship service this Sunday, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to designate the vocal input for only one patch as we are using it for only one song?
Yes, you could.
Hi. Cool idea.
I don’t have an FX Processor in my current setup, so could I conceivably use this same concept to run my vocals into MainStage, but instead of running the Vocoder plugin, simply bypass the keyboard notes entirely and simply have my voice pass through MS but add a reverb plugin to it? How would I go about that?
Thanks.
Hi Duncan, there is an included stock MainStage template for processing vocals I would try out first. Send us an email if you need any further help or ideas!
Is there a way to split wet/dry so that both are playing within the plugin, or would you need to have a separate channel for dry vox?
I don't think there's a wet/dry option inside the plugin- but you could do it a few ways. If you have a sound engineer and an extra channel the easiest way is just to have two channel strips, one with the plugin, and one for your dry vocals, then just make sure they go to separate outs and let the sound engineer mix between them. Or, if you want to have the control and only use one track, I would create a dry vocal track, and then create a bus for the vocoder and then just mix in the amount you like, you could even map a knob to control the mix in real time so you can bring it in/out for certain parts of a song.
Thanks!! Came here because of Piper Jones’ version of “In The River”.
Yes! You're welcome :)
Hi David, Great stuff!
Quick question, I'm running Mainstage on mac Air and with 2 usb ports: 1 for my key board and 1 for the nanokontrol ... how can i extend another connection for the microphone? any ideas?
Hi, you can use a powered usb hub for more ports.
Great vid David! Really appreciate your help with Mainstage for newbies like me. Had a question for you. What type of audio interface do you need for this plugin? Would the Scarlett 2i2 work? And to follow up, is this setup feasible to use live? I'd only need the vocoder for a single song in my set.
that interface is perfect for this. And this tutorial is made with live performance in mind, just make to you have a little extra time to practice it
@@SundaySounds awesome! Following up, could I also use the vocoder microphone as a standard vox microphone during the live show?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Is there a way to use this on the Sunday keys iPad app?
Can I use a USB mic instead of a mic through my audio interface?
That should work.
How can I save it as a pad or software instrument?
You can save your plugin settings or you can export and save a patch.
I have an Apollo Twin and I can’t get the mic to route to main stage any ideas? Help!
Hi, if you'd like help troubleshooting this please reach out to us at sundaysounds.com/contact
Is there a way to route microphone through mainstage that's always on instead of having to click on it to activate it? So I can use plug ins in real time?
Hi David I use Kataoke tracks for my live solo gigs so all I need is a good vocal... can I do this through main stage ? Thnx so much
Yes, you can.
@@SundaySounds David could i hire you over a skype
call to show me? I'll have all setup and ready using macbook pro 2018, apollo MKII and speaker
I’ve searched through RUclips for a tutorial on how to setup mainstage for live vocals and if all the videos, not one has mentioned this.... ???

What’s that stand you’ve got? I want ONE!
The keyboard stand or the laptop stand?
The laptop stand for your MacBook?
@@jamesowen8446 David uses the Quik Lok LPH-001 Laptop Stand, you can find it here: sundaysounds.com/keyboard-stands/quik-lok-lph-001-laptop-stand
What about Vocal Synth 2 from Izotope? Couldn't make it done with Reaper... There must be a way!
What model of microphone you use on this video ??
David uses an AKG P170 but I wouldn’t recommend a mic of that type for live performance. An SM58 or similar will work really well for this.
It’s not working for me please help
ruclips.net/video/emK7fbUY2g0/видео.html This is what brought me to this tutorial! Thanks David!
Ableton?
Ableton has a vocoder too!
