I like the vinyl peaks, it gives the mountain a 3-d look. Nice project.

Just to ask a question, so I watched your staining video and clear coat video to follow up this one-- am I correct that you stain all sides including back and bottom, but you only clear coat the front and sides?

No I clearcoat all around. Its been a while since i made the video so i am not sure what I said but that is what I normally do. Thank you for the comment.

@@jascogoods maybe i didn't watch all the way through that section -- maybe you started with the front and sides, let it dry, then did the rest, to avoid fingerprints? It's the live one on clear coating

I always use a pre-stain conditioner, especially on Soft Woods

I’ve used them a few times but they seemed to mute the colors a little so I stopped using it. I try to use the premium stains when possible but there are some colors that look best in the classic stains.

This is a worthy project for any to-do list, on the flipside, have you seen some of the curious projects in Woody Hyezmar’s Woodworking Bible? Try go’gling his latest stuff before he publishes it.

G'day I just found your video, very interesting. One question when talking about wood size, you say 1x3, 1x5,1x6, what would be the actual timber size? I am from Australia and cannot find 1" x5", 2"x6" etc. Very confusing. Thanks.

Its about to get even more confusing because our lumber sizing is weird here in the states!! 🤣 All of our 1x construction or pre cut lumber is referring to 1 inch by 2, 3, 4... inch but the actual size isnt 1 inch its only 3/4 of an inch. and the other number is roughly a half inch smaller than the actual number. So a 1x4 for example is actually 3/4 of an inch by 3 1/2 inches. Then if you buy hardwoods that haven't been milled its a whole other sizing system. I hope that made sense.
