    Fun fact: In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Devils Tower is the location where Monarch contained a kaiju called Abaddon.

    I think many non-tribal people not in Wyoming area would have learned of this from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, where it features in the last part of the movie.

    We visited Devil's Tower this summer. It was incredible to witness such beauty. I could feel spiritual presence as we hiked around the tower. I get goosebumps just thinking about itm It's a must vist to anyone visiting the blackhills.

      I also felt the energy while walking around Devils Tower. Never felt more positive while visiting a place. This stone creation is sorely misnamed.

      Freedom of religion my dude, nobody can tell you to believe shit. Also, it's pretty common for bible stories to be called myths, I found this video googling "tower myth" which is just the tower of bable/egypt.

    I've grown up in Wyoming and I learned the general variants here in school. The rendering at about the two and a half minute mark was in one or more of my textbooks. I've wondered who drew it and why it was given a much longer tail than bears have.

    Since it looks like a giant tree stump, I wonder if there is a legend about a giant tree?
    It's interesting that both stories given say it rose higher and higher out of the ground. Since it's volcanic, that's exactly what it did.

    I've been to Devils Tower. The picture in the Thumbnail for this video was on postcards in the gift shop.

    Bear Lodge is where all the tribes put the criminals then the devil would come for them in the form of a bearcat. The Bearcat had black teeth inside of a black mouth as well as black claws and it had a great long tail like a cougar. But it's eyes burn white like the stars. It breathes smoke.

    This story is all just a myth. Everybody knows bears can easily grow up to 5,000 ft. tall, and therefore have no problem climbing this.

    There is something very biological about that tower and the surrounding area. I visited this place. It looks like a severed ankle. Tendons, etc. Like something really huge got stuck (in mud or whatever), keeled over and died. Leg got snapped and this all that remains. The soil in that area is a deep red. Something bled out.
    While this might sound ridiculous, it makes more sense than the story of a large bear claws causing the marks on that structure.

      @@tempus_164 nah you see I have a 11 inch petrified tree piece at home. The petrified tree piece does not have the pillar columns that come from igneous rock and crystal structures. (I’m a rock collector)

    I will offer another option for what the Devil's Tower is: Very Long ago, when the Firmament existed and the oxygen content of the atmosphere was much higher, Plants, including trees, grew to enormous heights. The Devil's Tower is the petrified remnant of one of those trees...............

    The Kiowas were the original habitats of Black Hills until the Sioux were to lose their land to the Colonist who wanted them removed and the govt furnished them with guns to drive the Kiowa from the Black Hills their homeland which they did so the original story you told was the Kiowa belief in the sacredness of the mountain of the Seven Sisters. Your version was very close but just a few things left out

      By the way tree stump was never mentioned volcanic neck was mentioned not tree stump look up what volcanic means and I can assure you it does not mean tree stump it is a rock made substance ftom moving rock that built up layer by layer some sentiment washed away which made the devils tower over time and nature is still working on this volcano not tree stump that was never mentioned here books are in the library that backs my claim
