Thank you for bring this up. I've been locked for 6 month end of this April and forgot I did deep dive in what products safe to use ,myths and listening to my body/ hair. I searched asap today for polysobrate 80 but found some other details of long term effects : inflammatory, gut issues and other side effects I don't want applying to my hair. You asked and forgot I studied for 4-5 months on hair care before locking. I use ROSEWATER ,GLYCERIN ❤ WITH many essential oils in my hair spray. "GLYCERIN" is more natural emulsifier. Works well with water n oil base.. Liked being tested to do better. Thanks for bringing awareness 😂❤🙏
Hi! I appreciate you so much for watching and commenting! I love that you did your research and came to a conclusion that’s best for you🥰 I encourage everyone to do the same! thank you so much!!!!🙏🏾🥰❤️❤️❤️
Just did some research. Yep Tween/polysorbate20 for water and essential oils and Tween/polysorbate 80 for heavier oils like carrier oils 👍 So maybe use the 80 if you want to mix both carrier and essential oils to your water.
Hi Denise!! Thank you for researching this!! I did not know this regarding using the 20 for lighter oils and 80 for the heavier🤯 I appreciate you so much!!!🥰❤️❤️❤️
I'm new to the sisterloc world I very much so appreciate this video as I wasn't aware of polysorbate80 😮.I was just using Rosemary and teatree oil😢. Thanks to your information, I'll be adding 2-3 drops of Polysorbate80 to my diy spray bottle. Thanks again ❤
Hey girl! Welcome to this wonderful community and congratulations on hair freedom!!! I first learned about mixing oils (mainly essential oils) with other other liquids to help my little sister who had lupus at the time. I appreciate YOU so much for stopping by and commenting ❤️❤️❤️
With the understanding that oil and water don't mix, I usually add jojoba oil to my daily spray to at least dilute the essential oil. But you've got me curious about emulsifiers now and I'll research the polysorbate 80. Thank you for your video.
Hi Joy! I find that it helps a lot in mixing my essential oils with my rose water☺ and yes, I encourage anyone to do their research, I've found articles that have pros and cons to polysorbate 80. But we use this product in a lot of cosmetic and skin products as well as some vitamins we take😁 thank you sooo much for visiting my channel and commenting ❤❤❤
hey girl, A LOT of people do not know this information…it’s WILD!!!😂😂 I appreciate you so much for stopping by and commenting and I’m so sorry for this laaaaate reply😩❤️❤️❤️
I just subscribed thank you because, all these hair mist videos and none of them say add an emulsifier or how much to add....especially if you plan on selling it , you need an emulsifier and preservative
Hi!!! I believe it’s beneficial especially when you are mixing oils and water. I’m so sorry for the late reply😩🥰 but I appreciate you so much for stopping by and commenting ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Poly SugaMulse D9 is a natural alternative to polysorbates that do the same thing as a solubilzer not an emulsifier. You’re creating a consistent, stabilized suspension, not an emulsifier
@@JDris08 Hi! Thank you so much for this info. I’ve never heard of Poly SugaMulse D9. This is something I will definitely look into. I appreciate you for stopping by and commenting 🥰❤️❤️❤️
@@LenasLovelyLocs1 You are so welcome and thank you again for the love on my video as well. I was told not to put water and any oils on my hair or scalp just yet. I had a bad reaction to oils after my installation so I just wash and do an ACV spray to calm down the itch.
Sis! I got this and love it. I was wondering if you had any reccomendations for a preservative for a DIY hair spray? I keep mine in the fridge but would love to keep it in my bathroom.
@@mamab4931 no that won't work. I make my own organic rose and rosemary water. It'll def go bad. I'm just sticking with a cold hair moisturizer for now. 😰
Any diy product you make that contains water HAS to have a preservative to prevent mold and bacteria. I use liquid germall plus and optiphen for my water based products.
Hi! First, Congratulations on hair FREEDOM, girl! If you're in the beginning stage of having SL, I wouldn't suggest putting any oils in your locs. You definitely don't want unnecessary slippage or unraveling. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey girl! You are absolutely right, glycerin is an emulsifier. But I’ve read that using glycerin in the winter will attract the dry, winter air to your locs, which could dry them out. I could be wrong, I’d have to research it more. I appreciate you so much for stopping by my channel and commenting!🥰❤️❤️❤️
Hey Frankie! You can store your DIY spray in the fridge, which would help to keep its shelf life. but I would keep it no longer that 3-4 weeks. it also depends on the ingredients you put in it as well. I hope this helps🥰❤️❤️❤️
Hi Ms. Porter! I made the mistake of using Tea tree oil on my skin neat and it caused a bad reaction, needless to say, im never doing that again😩 I appreciate you so much for stopping by and commenting ❤❤❤
Hi Kadistou! I would say the conditioner will help mix all of your ingredients together. It's when you're just using only the water and oil that it won't mix properly, I hope this help☺ and I appreciate you visiting and commenting ❤❤❤
Hi! It most certainly can be mixed with your essential oil mix (you only need a couple drops)! Thank you soooo much for visiting my channel, I appreciate you❤❤❤
No offense sis, but I think that people should really research for themselves before using things like this. I'd especially be concerned about recommending such products to others.
Hi! Thanks for your view, comment, AND concern, it's much appreciated. I absolutely encourage others to do their research on this subject, like they should with ANY RUclips recommendations. Love and light❤
Hey girl! You are absolutely right, you can use vegetable glycerin as an emulsifier, but you have to be careful because it IS a humectant, which means its drawing water from the air and into your locs....remember, in the beginning, we don't want to overly moisturize our locs due slippage and unraveling. I appreciate you stopping by to comment ❤❤❤
I'm so glad someone has finally said this. I've been saying this for so long. Thank you thank you thank you for educating everyone.

Glycerine isn’t an emulsifier it’s a humectant in can stabilize the mix but it’s not meant to bond the elements together, you’ll need an emulsifier
Polysorbate 80 = an emulsifier / use this in your diy water & oil mixes

Polysorbate 80 is definitely not a safe product to use continuously. Not good to consume either.
They also make food grade polysorbate 80
