By the looks of that reel. You are going to have a lot of great fishing trips with it. Hope you take us along so we can see you having a great time. Be blessed. My friend.
It looks impressive, but I have a feeling it will be very similar to the Shimano Alde 22, which i didn't like. But perhaps I can tune this reel this time and end up liking it? It's a sexy looking reel after all ya?
If it's anything like my 17 Conquest was when I first got it, then you're probably right and that resistance you feel when spinning the handle is from excessive grease inside. After I opened it up, cleaned it out and re-applied less grease, the handle spun like your Salamandura. I'm waiting to service my 23 until I find some good videos or blogs detailing the process. Hope you can get your hands on a 17 to compare! I haven't fished the 23 yet, but just from winding it I prefer the feeling of my 17. I think it may be due to the factory grease, or maybe it's the new aluminum gear. I need to do some cast testing to know for sure. The factory bearings seem really nice after I flushed them and re-oiled but I'd still like to try ceramics once Roro makes some in the correct size for this spool.
Thx! I really want the 17 since I love the Aldebaran! I will give it a good cleaning when time is due and hopefully things will get better. The bearings could get flushed first tho lol
My Aldebaran BFS has that resistance feel at times. It is extremely smooth but occasionally will feel tight. Not grindy or rough, just not ice smooth. The Conquest 100HG and newest Zillion have both always been butter smooth though.
I'd probably prefer old one. I was not keen of Shimano going to a smaller diameter spool. But I can understand that they want to cater to as many anglers as possible and not just bass anglers. But being all rounder reel now makes it not as good for the heavier larger stuff. I'd likely get further casting distance on the 17. But I see they are making a size 30 reel dropping in 2024... Perhaps that can fill the power finesse and versatile finesse gap
I agree the 22 aldebaran is way under breaked...I still love it though. I use it for bass and pike bfs yea I said pike lol. With 1.2 ygk upgrade I can put like 100 handle cranks (75m) on it. Jerkbaits cranks and small swimbaits it cast that 5 to 15 grams better that my 22 bantam so that's what I used it for power bfs. I don't prefer the 22 aldebaran for that 1/16 oz wit a b-vibe which is also my bread and butter and it's disappointing cause had high hopes for that being the intended purpose...but oh well I still love it just for different techniques than I planned.
lol, it's like the opposite of the kestrel. Over braking on that end and under braking here. Although I prefer less brakes on some reels, this one is to a point where the braking is so inconsistent that I have no desire to bring it on a kayak. although the newer reel feels super refine with great ideas, I feel the smaller spool was a bad idea! I feel that Shimano tried to cater to two different anglers at the same time, trout and bass folks. So basically an all rounder approach... By making the spool smaller, it allowed itself to throw lighter lures, but what about the bass folks who they originally catered to? now the spool dispense less line per rotation... Although I have not tried Power BFS fishing with this, I have a feeling it won't do better than my 16 Alde nor my curado bfs when it comes to larger lures since those reels have larger diameter spools. So I sold it quickly, gotten this to see how it fairs and perhaps i can turn this guy into a trout reel. Like video games, especially MMORPG where you add stats, no character ever can survive MVP or PVP doing all rounder stats! Everyone pumps INT into mages, DEX into archers and STR into DPS chars until it's maxed and then spread the rest around based on their play style. NO ALL ROUNDERS! With that said, all rounder reels are usually not good out of the box! I actually made a video somewhere for a "good bye review" to the shimano alde 22.. but it's like lost somewhere in my drives. I might have deleted by accident lol...
Love it Jimbo! Can't wait for your fishing video! Is it saltwater approved? I suspect it is (like the non BFS Calcutta) so Shimano can expand more into the saltwater market.
Tension knob is constant and stronger. Magnetic only happens when it's spinning. Some reels such as this is also dynamic on the brakes. So it will apply stronger brakes when it's Spins too fast. Then when it slows down.. It will ease off the brakes, so ur lure can be able to achieve longer casts. If you are new to baitcasting reels, here's a video I just released on how I tune magnetic braking reels such as this ruclips.net/video/rvqlt1yLDC8/видео.html
U can't buy it at the store. It's JDM. But it's a good thing as yen is down. Importing will save u. This reel I got under 400 shipped... Normally be over 500 shipped. If they stocked it here in the US.. It will be well over 500 plus tax Id applicable. Digitaka is a reputable store

Would like to see a Daiwa SS AIR unboxing and review. That's the the BFS reel I'm looking forward to the most this year.
That would be a fun reel to try too

I have aleady forgotten the Aldebaran BFS 22 lol. But this reel is legit good
That reel is gorgeous
It sure does look good
I like the Calcutta but i think it’s cool that it has a deep sea reel type of look.
The beauty of round reels :)
Cant wait to see you slap it on a rod and make a few cast! Enjoy your family trip!
Thx man, it Will likely be my stream setup
How’s this reel so far? Was thinking of the 17’ Calcutta tho tbh.

But.. For my fishery... Its been good for the UL and L tackle fishing
@@rawrfishing Thanks!! You’re a fast replier! lol. But omw to get me the 17’ conquest for 220$! 😁
Nice
Nice video and nice job on unboxing the reel. Thanks for sharing! #raWrFishing rocks!
Thx mate! It's a good reel. Just fished it and wow. I love it
I got mine the other day, nice reel
Sweet man! I won't be able to use it anytime soon. About to head out for another family trip!
How do you like the round reel compared to low profile ones?
Finally gave ultralight a try. Caught two ozark gold and a smallie.
Sweet! Bfs UL?
Bass pro stampede.

Oh yes sir! But I don't think I would do it. I will take my cheap KK reels out and let them rust out first lol
@@rawrfishing You're too funny!
Just being real and protect my gears lol
@@rawrfishing I feal ya, that's an expensive piece of equipment.
this is the REEL deal
It looks impressive indeed
What does the knob on the left side under the handle do? (I’m just learning about baitcasters)
Spool tension knob. To loosen or tighten the spool so the spool can spin easier or harder
@@rawrfishing - thank you for the reply. doesn’t the magnetic system inside the housing do the same thing?

wat was the lure that he gave?
No gifts from digitaka

Digitaka, as mentioned in the beginning of the video :p
