What makes the main character already more enjoyable than 90% of romcom best boys? He already assumed they're friends and aren't going to get into an internal struggle on what does it mean to be friends for 70% of the season! I also appreciate that they're already a year into knowing each other. A director once said, the best pilots starts 3-7 episodes after the story actually started.
