At our church's weekly marriage builders' Bible study, we watch Dr. Emerson's videos where he talks about the crazy cycle, where a husband reacts unlovingly to his wife's disrespect, and the wife reacts disrespectfully to her husband's unlovingness, and it fuels a crazy cycle in the home. That was my biggest takeaway, I can't tell you the many conflicts, my husband and I have averted by avoiding the crazy cycle.
We are absolutely thrilled! My partner and I have delved into the Love and Respect book, and now we're each engrossed in our respective chapters. The timing of this discussion couldn't be more perfect. 😇
Respect. The word is thrown about quite a lot, but not fully or basically defined/explained. I'm finally learning that Respect means to show the man that 1) he is likeable; and 2) he is capable (that you believe he is capable). So then disrespect would be to show him that he is dislikeable/obnoxious, and incapable. And, as discussed in this video, it is hard for me to show someone (male or female) who has really/continually hurt me that I still like them; that they are still likeable to me (in that moment that I'm feeling hurt), and I still believe in their capability, even in this circumstance that they have disappointed me... I appreciate you pointing out that dishonorable needs to be addressed in a respectful way (calm n civil way); vs what would be seen as "Enabling".🙏
When God transforms you, it’s so simple to follow Him and be accountable. We are all sinners and when we have to answer for them, He won’t really take the “but he…” “but she…” excuses. Aim to live to worship Him and own your sins with repentance and be spiritually healed by Him. No one can shake you, making you feel slighted. All respect and love 😊 I don’t need to yell wanting to be heard anymore. God hears me ❤️ place God before your partner and build marriage with Christ as the foundation. It’s so glorifying ❤

Another scenario is, that a selfless man that is being disrespected would be emotionally deflated and tries extra to please his wife to a fault because he is wondering whether he is not showing love enough to her. On the flip side, a selfless woman, who is not being shown love/affection sufficiently, gets emotionally deflated because she wonders whether she is not respecting him enough and so tries to submit extra to him to a fault. I think this is the state of abusive marriages
