    My Dad ordered a 62 Chevy but way plainer .It was a Bel Air Black red interior 283 p.g. P.s. radio heater and a ( padded dash a 17.00 option at list price ) He believed that it was the most reliable trouble free car that he ever owned and he owned a 57 with a 283 ! In freezing Chicago winters parked outside this car started faithfully. This will always be a special car to me.

    One of the prettiest Chevrolet's ever produced. It's too bad this was year before vinyl tops were offered. A cream colored one on this car would've looked amazing. I always thought it was odd that prior to '61, factory AC was more integrated into the dash. In '61-'62's looked somewhat tacked on or aftermarket. To think that in the early '80's there was one of these parked in one of the unused bays at a service station my brother worked in. A loaded one too! I remember admiring it as a teen.

    Always loved impala,not too big ,not too fancy,perfect style right down to the 2 tone carpets,spinner hubcaps & engine turned styling on the ss. They even had a delicious smell until they were smoked in.this one is a beautiful example w/the firemist gold color.

    Had one almost like it. The color I had was the "fawn gold" same looking interior, same spinner hub caps, 62ss didn't have the counsel shifter. Had it on the column, Did not come out till 63. I had the 327 turbofire. Awesome car. Last time i saw it was in pismo around 7years ago. The guy was asking 30k for it. I wont say what i sold it for in 1984.
    When peeked inside still had the same smell. Really miss that car.

    One of the church goers at my church had one exactly like this one. Hers was loaded as well and had the very RARE tilt wheel. In the late '60's it was already showing it's age and wasn't well cared for. I tried to buy it for several years, but to no avail.

    In High School (1968) I owned a red '62 Impala SS "409" 4spd with black interior. It had the high performance heads, close ration 4spd, dual 4bl carbs and 411 rear end. For some reason it did NOT have PS or PB and the clutch was VERY stiff. It passed everything on the road except a GAS STATION!!! Terrible mileage and it would only gulp the highest octane Ethyl gasoline (Chevron Custom Supreme) which at that time was a "ghastly" 45.9c a gallon!! ;-)

    they actually built thousands of anniversary gold in all models for 62.. and 62's came out in 61 so that's why they celebrated with the new 62 body style... very nice cars

    • @Thomas63r2
      @Thomas63r2 3 года назад

      @@johnnywilliams8162 That would make more sense - because that would be close to the number of Chevrolet dealers in existence in that era. At that time there were tons of very small Chevrolet dealers, before dealer agreements required big showrooms and expensively equipped service departments.

    Great video, but John Mahony is way off with his figures. There were 16,925 Anniversary Gold Impalas produced in the 1962 model year and there was a very significant anniversary to celebrate for Chevrolet - it was 50 years since the company was formed (Nov 1911) so the 1962 model year was chosen to celebrate this milestone. I have one of these cars (SS Impala sport coupe) and I have documented another 92 of these anniversary gold cars. I'd love to document this car if anyone has a photo of the cowl tag and VIN.
