- Rangers moved fifteen points clear in the league with a four-nil humiliation of Celtic whose fans streamed out of the ground long before the final whistle. Jorg Albertz headed in to give Rangers an early lead while Andrei Kanchelskis raced away to make it two just before half-time. Celtic threatened occasionally in the second half through 'Player of the Year' Mark Viduka but two late goals from Albertz and Giovanni van Bronckhorst sealed a deserved win.

I am a celtic fan and can remember this game very well, i was only 7 and it was my dads birthday and we were in a pub which had three bars, one for celtic fans, one for rangers fans and one for neutrals. It was a horrible score but a great day of singing and banter back and forth! Long live the old firm

I was nervous as fuck before this game...and even after Albertz scored I was still shiting buttons. However, the 4-0 result flattered Celtic. How we taught them to play football that day.

Celtic did improve, but at the same time rangers underperformed in the 2000/2001 season. Rangers had a month of 4 defeats, defeats from st Johnstone, hibs and even a 3-0 defeat from Kilmarnock! This was a bad rangers squad. O’Neil did beat rangers 6-2, but rangers then beat Celtic 5-1. Celtic were nothing special even with O’Neil in charge. Good for Celtic winning the league that year, but rangers played some diabolical football.
The great rangers team I’m talking about this one right here beating Celtic 4-0. Rangers might have had the same players the season after, but as I said, they played a lot worse than they did in this game - and I’m talking about most of the season. Celtic defeated a rangers team who were defeated by Kilmarnock 3-0 and St Jonstone and Hibs. Rangers lost the plot as a team and sucked really hard the season O’Neil took over. They lost drive and ambition and the quality went down hill as was evident in the cheap losses and draws that season.
If rangers played like this the season after this game, they would’ve done so much better. But they were very disjointed and below par the season after.
“Totally outplayed” by a Celtic team who got pumped by Dundee at Celtic park the same season and were beat by Killie as well. I’m not saying Celtic we’re bad, they just won most of their matches by a baw hair. Like they’d win 2-1 and 1-0 and get a penalty and win 2-1 again. Sometimes they’d have spells of genius and destroy teams, but they couldn’t keep it going all the time and would mostly just scrape a win each time. They were nothing special. Rangers were awful that season. If you see the results or watched them play like I did as a fan, they looked so hopeless that season like they are this season. I’m not biased. Celtic were great with Larsson being such a genius upfront and probably the best striker I’ve ever seen in the SPL, but Celtic were pretty bad from set pieces a lot of the time and conceded cheap goals that could’ve been avoided.

Rangers have appeared in 3 european cup winners cup finals, A european super cup final and UEFA CUF final. The most recent of which was 2008.
You slag off the SPL and i suppose you have every right as its not the greatest by any means but despite that it has managed to produce two teams in the last 8 years capable of reaching European finals. Lol you must be joking, there was a 21 point gap at the end of the season. And Larsson played in the Old Firms in 1998/1999 and 2002/2003 seasons but Rangers still won the league.

+AFCADaan9 perhaps, but that particular rangers team = was certainly not. they competed against some of the best in europe. in addition, we are realists and understand that 5 million of population, small amount of revenue from TV, no over priced tickets, and a weak pull towards attracting top players equates to not the greatest league in the world. in spite, the old firm games = well perhaps bara and real are better, but there is no other for sheer rivalry. Bar none. Lastly, its important to have a degree of self efficacy about your domestic league. You know, accept, and acknowledge its relative position with world football. the scottish media certainly has never aimed to beguile, over sell or shall i say brainwash us that its something that its not? I could not say that about the english premiership. Its without a doubt the most over rated league in the world despite the large amounts of money form TV etc and ticekts. You just need to look at Germany - clearly many more higher quality and performing teams or spain = every final in europe its spanish teams that end up in the final. Bar none. German league is the closest in quality, you have to consider Italy, France and then perhaps the English league. But of course, its realitive to the economic dynamics of each country. Nonetheless - scotland punches way way beyond its weight with the charm, excitement and emotion of its famous old firm. regardless of how good the players are. Rant over. Scotland isnt brainwashed. England is.
