I love Dave. Every video is just "Here's this stupid thing someone said, and here's every reason why it's wrong and stupid" while still being calm and respectful the entire time. I learn something new in almost every video.
Which is a nice comparison to Flerfer videos that often are 50% ranting and cursing and calling others liars. Dave and many other science youtubers actually focus on facts and theories because they love them.

Look at the ‘black swan’ where they take extreme atmospheric conditions and try to claim things that can’t be confirmed because of how distorted the image is, the horizon is here when it could be truly anywhere in the image. Some who are just copying others ‘homework’ even try to say you shouldn’t see the platforms at all on a globe.

In July, 1987, I sailed from Hawaii to California aboard the US Navy helicopter carrier USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3). From the flag bridge, about 120 feet above sea level, I could see the masts of the two destroyers leading the convoy, about 100 miles ahead. Using the large binoculars, I could clearly see the cables (no more than a couple inches across) securing the masts, and all of the small scale structure of the masts, everything on the order of a few inches in size. The upper portions of the masts stuck right out of the water, with no sign of the ships under them, at all. There was no hint of any mirage effect, and under the circumstances, well out to sea, one would not have expected it anyway. So I have done the round-Earth verification observation myself. But the flatties will never Surrender.

I highly doubt those destroyers were 100 miles ahead. I know from experience on the destroyer I served on we could not see Hawaiian islands from 100nm away. Now the signal bridge was not 120 feet above, but we still could not see it from that vantage point. At 120 feet of elevation and 100 miles distance, those ships would have had to been almost 1 mile tall in order to see them. And that is not even including refraction. Sorry but no. This varies, but typically US fleets travel just beyond the horizon distance from each other. So more like 15 - 25 miles apart. At 120 feet observer point and 25 miles apart sounds better as depending upon height of those particular destroyers, but the bottom ~90 feet would have been obscured and so would likely only have seen the top of the superstructures.

Ah, no. The math just doesn't support your text. If you were 120 feet above the water, the easy math is to multiply your 120 feet by 1.5 giving you 180. Then take the square root of that and you get 13.4 miles you can see unobstructed. To see 100 miles away, you would have to be about 6,700 feet up. Take the 6,700 times 1.5 getting 10,050. The square root of that is 100.25 miles. Why do you think the Air Force flies their U-2 airplanes 70,000 feet up? For the fun of it? No. Take 70,000 X 1.5 getting 105,000, and the square root of that is 324 miles. They can film about 324 miles away without flying directly over their target. Hope this helps.

I recently bought a cheap microscope on Amazon just to play with and show things to the kids. It claims to have the ability to do 1000x magnification. I put a coin case designed for 1oz silver rounds 1.8 inches in diameter under the microscope and looked at the edge. It's fairly straight! Imagine that, when you get close enough to something round, it becomes rather flat. Just for good measure I put a quarter under the microscope and I can only see a slight curve. I traced around my thermos lid, 3.8 inches diameter, and the line at 1000x was perfectly straight as far as I could see! What magic is this!!!

Well, the problem right there is that on a flat Earth, there is no horizon to begin with. Looking out from the shore, the ocean and the sky recede for...ever - hundreds and hundreds of miles until they (the sea and sky) disappear into atmospheric haze. There is no clear horizon line _ever_ on a flat Earth.
Strange that on a globe Earth, the crisp horizon line on a clear day is the edge of the "spherical sector". Once again, what we observe matches a globe. Flat Earthers ignore what they see, and somehow see things that don't exist.

Your comment does not make any since there is a horizon no matter what you want to say the Earth is flat or curved, the bottom disappearing because of perspective, has nothing to do with what you are saying , all you have to do is get A P 900 which is a camera with a zooming lens or something similar, you can bring the object back into view, mirages have nothing to do with that, just because you have 50 likes, basically means nothing, I'm sure more than that agreed with Hitler.
Horizon is the apparent line where the surface of the Earth meets the sky. So yes, sadly, even on a Flat Earth, there is still a Horizon, because even they would have an apparent line where Earth's Surface meets sky.
The problem isn't whether the Horizon exists or not, but rather what happens at that apparent line.

What???? Look down any long hallway. The walls compress in as well. Ceiling appears to lower, floor appears to rise and the walls will appear to close in. Nothing is "busted". The fact of the matter is that an object on a flat floor (flatter then the ground or ocean on average lol) will begin to disappear bottom first, depending on distance and eye height. Your floor doesn't need to be curved or a ball to do that. Laser level flatness will still do the same. Anyone can demonstrate this themselves. Dave is just really good at omitting majority of the video and strawmanning so his fan boys will just eat up each time.

There are TONS of examples of bottom first vanishing on a flat plane. On and off a table. Tell Dave to get a longer table and not have the boat so close for starters. What a poor example that was designed to fail! HE EVEN SHOWS ACTUAL EXAMPLES in the video but that gets swept under the rug of course.

My standard go to is: Why are lighthouses tall? If the Earth is flat, short lighthouses would be just as effective, much cheaper, and easier to maintain and less work for the keepers. If dangers are further out at the, the lighthouses are taller. Down here in coastal NC we have the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" off the coast and we also have several of the tallest lighthouses in the country.

There I stood on the Cliffs of Moher, armed with a Gleason's map and a Psomethingorother, beautiful day lit by the small and local sun that somehow was also small and local in a bunch of other places while not visible at all in other places on flatardia and try as I might and I just could not take one clear picture of Greenland or Newfoundland. It's just like.. the earth isn't flat. But some guys in videos have said that's just the gubmint lying, so that must be the truth. 😂

Midday for Paris is 6am for new york so while the sun is directly up for Paris it's rising for new york. The sun should be even further away than paris because its also high off the ground. Personally, I think that's a little unfair, you'd need a pretty good telescope, so I'll propose something different. Stand on the cliffs of Dover, on a clear, cool, sunny day, and use a telescope to bring the Eiffel Tower into view. Those cliffs are 350' above sea level, higher than most of Paris' buildings but lower than the 1200' point of the Tower, so surely you could do it, right? Right? 🙃

No footage exists where the proportion obstructed on a distant object changes with the amount of zoom employed. You've never seen it. I've never seen it. Nobody has ever seen it. Yet, flat Earthers still claim a partially obstructed object can be brought back with more zoom.

As someone who sails this argument is ridiculous. Sailing towards a windmill, land or a lighthouse it always appears top-down as you approach.
This is why we have lighthouses, on a flat earth you'd just need a lightshed.
Interestingly, on certain smaller bodies of water (e.g. Narragansett Bay), there are lighthouses whose lights are set quite low, more or less at the height of the roof of a single-story house. They don't need to be taller since they look out across only a few miles of open water.
I totally agree as a sailor since 1975, I've done many long distance blue-water trips and seen a multitude of sunrises, sunsets, moonrises and moonsets at sea. There are no flat earth yachtsmen, I'd stake my life on it.

Secondly, the sun or moon moving into or out of our personal azimuthal grid of vision is in no way evidence for a spinning spheroid.
If you've been sailing, and therefore navigating, in the 70's then you'd be aware of how celestial navigation and magnetic declination work. As you maybe aware, obtaining your position at sea using celestial bodies and a sextant has you measuring angles from a level or flat base line, one cannot measure an angle off a curved surface, that is not possible. The celestial bodies that move above us have remained in a precise 15 deg p/hr sidereal rotation above us for all recorded history. This is a measurable and observational fact that wouldn't be possible for a spheroid moving in at least 3 different vectors as it allegedly blasts through the ever expanding universe at incomprehensible speeds.
As far as mag dec is concerned, if you're ever sailing south of Tasmania in the vicinity of Latitude: 72° 10' 54.5" S Longitude: 140° 9' 48.9" E, be aware that the magnetic compass variation for this position is +179 55' Which is a absolute joke.
Some people will have the intellectual capacity to discern fact from fiction and discover the truth, and then there will be some who'll simply seek contentment in the consensus of their ignorance. @@petergaskin1811 well there could be flat earth yachtsmen if their experience is local and on smaller bodies of water. The same with a pilot, which is why there are no flat earth pilots with international experience. Only those that have local short flights, like helicopter pilot.
As a surveyor who works with photogrammetry software, nothing the software produces is useful over any real distance without ground control points. Not because the landscapes appear flat in the uncorrected models, but because they usually appear concave, or saddle-shaped, or otherwise heavily warped.

It's crazy cause the sun actually goes under the horizon at 12:00AM which is supposed to be midnight yet its still sunset bright, only for the sun to rise again at roughly 4:40AM based off the light shining on the buildings. Also, it takes place in Anchorage, Alaska. Anchorage is populated by 288k people why does this matter? Because in the flat earth model the sun goes over Anchorage, which is really strange considering what that video depicts. In other words, saying the sun goes over Anchorage every day is basically saying 288k people didn't experience that, ever. Ah, but wait, I forgot, anything that disproves flat earth is CGI, my mistake. Anyway my brain hurts from all this thinking, I'm gonna go play Roblox or something... Cya

I've been up that thing (rode speedy elevator...didn't climb😮)! That was one hell of a time to find out how my fear of heights had grown exponentially 😰 (2009 or 2010). I get anxiety just imagining going up the Burj when I see it on TV/video! I believe/know the Earth is spherical without getting high! I've sailed over about 3/5ths of the world's oceans on the USS Nimitz and the USS Theodore Roosevelt back in the late '80's. Sailors just know! 😁✌️🌎⚓

There is not one single piece of evidence for a flat earth. Not one. Properly understood, every single piece of evidence points toward the reality that earth is a sphere, orbiting a sun, amongst other planets. There is simply nothing that points toward any other conclusion.

Your underestimating the size of the earth and overestimating the size of the sun.at the right relative size and distance all of these objects will dissappear below the horizon. Because the horizon is just how far you can dee not due to the curveture of the earth

They do not change in apparent size through the day. You can clearly see half the sun and moon half way through rising or setting. You do not need to know the size of any of them to know the earth cannot be flat.

I've lived in the part of Michigan shown for 40 years and I can promise you that it's NOT even close to being over 200 miles to the top of the picture. That picture was taken from just south of Kalamazoo, where 131, which is the north bound expressway, intersects with I-94. You're looking more NNW, then slightly north his graphic shows. The bend in lake Michigan in the upper left is likely Ludington. As the crow flies it's about 120 miles, taken from probably 30,000 feet, so that's certainly attainable in a photo. I have flown that route from Chicago to New York a number of times and recognized it instantly. His marker on the map is east of where he actually was. It's not much, under 20 miles, so there's not that much difference. His map is basically south of Grand Rapids, and not east. If you look at Googlemaps you'll see that the bend on 131 north of I-94 is pretty sharp but on this it's almost straight on his image, which shows that you're looking slightly NNW instead of north as the map he shows.
The fact remains it's well under the 200 miles he gives. Even if you go north, towards Frankfort, it's still well under the over 200 miles he states. I'm not sure if he's just guessing, or making the numbers up, but he's wrong, very wrong. His map and measurements would show the Leelenau Peninsula if it was what was shown, and you'd see Grand Traverse Bay, which would very present. but it's not present at all. If the end of his line lined up with Lake Michigan would be Frankfort, which is also a bend. But Frankfort is relatively close to Grand Traverse Bay which would certainly show up at that angle north but it's not there, so I'm sure it's Ludington. At that angle Grand Traverse Bay would be visible NNE of the bend on the Lake Michigan shore.

Flat Earthers don't understand how observations translate into models. You can point to what you said, or point to how stars circle a point in the northern hemispehere and a different point in the southern hemisphere, and keep a blank stare, because they don't understand how one thing relates to the other thing.
I'm pretty sure most genuine flat earthers have some sort of condition. For example, in the past, we tought some children were just dumb, but they had dislexia or discalculia. I think Flat Earthers can have something similar. That would explain why they fight every single model they don't understand while providing none of their own.
They literally don't know what people are talking about when they refer to a spherical earth, because they can't picture that, so they think everyone is mad or deceived. It's rather sad.
I used to take my geography students to Clinton Lake, a large reservoir in Kansas, when the lake was about 10-20 feet below capacity. There was nice, bright limestone between lake level and the vegetation above, especially visible near the dam. It steadily narrowed and became invisible in the far shore, upstream.
That a Midwestern prairie lake could be used to show the curvature of the earth always made an impression on these landlubbers.

In several of JTolans vids he uses a theodolite to measure vertical angles to distant objects like San Jacinto mtn. He then shows his math. And by ignoring the shape and dimensions of he gets the wrong elevation of the mtn. And when the correct math is applied to JT’s measurement the true altitude is returned and agrees quite well with published elevation of San Jacinto. He further says he doesn’t know why his calculation returns the incorrect lower elevation.
And none of his drooling flock of subservients worry about it, understand it, notice it or care.

It’s not just software, but hardware too. I’ve yet to see a flerfer who knows how to use the focusing ring on a camera, so whenever they point at a star or planet, and it is out of focus (thus appearing somewhat “watery”) they claim that it somehow proves anything except their inability to use a camera correctly

Just come to where I live in the red river valley on the border between Minnesota and North Dakota on a January day. No distortion caused by heat when it's -25F outside. And the land here is flat - and I do mean flat. Drive along I-29 and watch the buildings appearing top down as you approach, and disappearing bottom up as you move away from them. You don't have to be the brightest bulb in the bunch to figure out there's curvature involved.

As a video game programmer, I can tell you that the worlds in our physics simulations are definitely flat, however I wouldn't go as far to use them as proof that the real world is. I have actually seen, due to super refraction, the image of a ship emerge upside down over the horizon, as the ship gets closer of course the actual ship appears over the horizon, from the top down, the hull being the last to appear.
I also did some research on waves, Our Dave. After several hundred hours of reading and experimentation, thusly leading to an honorary diploma from NASA, I have discovered that waves... right .. waves... actually go away... yet the ships don't come back into view... Weird.

I have seen a mirage at sea in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Superrefraction of the atmosphere allowed us to see a container ship *beyond* the horizon and it was vertically stretched to make it FAR more visible than it was once it got closer to us.

If a ship is sailing away from you, the front of the ship is further away than the rear of the ship, but the front of the ship is still visible, while the rear of the ship, is obstructed by the horizon at the bottom. The only way this can be explained is by curvature of the Earth's surface, mirages/refraction is clearly NOT what is causing this phenomena
Or it could just be that you can't see any further. I mean if you don't move and can zoom in enough you will see it again. How am can you see it if the curve have cocompletey hid it ?
@@raloed.363No, the ships lower aft would not optically rise again when zoomed in on. It sits below the horizon. Therefore anything below that line of sight will be obstructed from view. The author of that post you refere to does not say the ship has moved so far away its totally covered. Take a soccer ball and a smaller marble as an example. Place that marble down on the soccer ball and roll it away from you so it eventually will be partially covered by the bigger ball. You cannot see the lower hidden part of that marble without moving up or change your view in any way. You can zoom in on it but it will still be partially covered by the soccer ball. Same applies to earth (the soccer ball) and the ship (the smaller marble). Obviously it is NOT to scale and the proportions do not fit the earth-ship proportion but the same principle applies.
One thought struck me when I was sitting down by the beach eating fish and chips a few weeks back.... If the earth was flat would you not always see a gap between clouds and sea out on the horizon?
Exactly. No matter how much you zoom, that gap would be there. This is why there is a curvature formula for calculating distance to the horizon, but no such formula for doing that on a flat plane. Fe'rs think geometry means Gee, I'm a tree.

As far as the objects on the floor in the hall . As someone who does commercial construction . Those floors are rarely level . There is quite a bit of waves ( low and high points ) in a floor . Sometimes quite a lot

Recently I've been playing this game called Elite: Dangerous, it's a space simulator, you fly your ships through stars and planets in Milkyway galaxy sized 1:1, or close to this. OFC there is a lot of game mechanics, that simplyfy things for us, but yet you can observe how the curvage works. You can choose the planet you want to land on, and as you getting close you can clearly see, that the horizon is getting closer and closer to you, you can fly above surface pretty closely, and see the curvage on a smaller planets or moons, and you can't on Big ones. If you struggle to understand how it works, just try playing it, you can also understand, that there is no up and down in space

A friend of mine who is a fanatical flat Earther tried to explain this FE tripe to me. He said you take a coin and put it on its edge close to the edge of a flat table. Then, with your eye right at the same level as the table, you slide the coin away from you. When you do this, the coin will appear to disappear from the bottom up. Only... it didn't. Of course the coin appeared to get smaller but I could still see the entire coin from across the table. Gotta lie to flerf.

Ask any licensed professional land surveyor if they submitted all of their work after a 5 month job starting with using a (Control Point from any monument with US Geographical Survey Coordinates stamped into the brass circle with the exact position of, feet above sea level and Northing and Southing or Lat. and Long degrees, along with the center punch and a well defined arrow pointing at true North)…and said survey was a job for the sake of reestablishing a country property line that stretched for over 15 miles and even if you had to occasionally document a defined control point, even using a 3 tack triangulation off some trees just to justify the stake you pounded into the ground at the end of a shift for the sake of finding it. Then after the job was completed you said to the Civil Engineers or even other L.S.’s if it was ok if they drew up the blueprints without taking the curvature of the Earth into consideration I guarantee you that they would either say….you are joking right?…..or laughed so hard and said, sure, if we are putting our engineering firms name on these documents and we do that, we will never work again and probably be sued.

No lol the visible horizon does rise with the viewer. Camera is level but it's irrelevant to demonstrate what Dave couldn't debunk. On a globe you'd have to tilt your camera as you increase elevation in order to keep lined up with your horizon. You don't have to do that in real life though. As demonstrated with any drone or way high up with the redbull jump. There can be a slight drop, due to hazy conditions and the perspective between the gap of the camera and ground, but nowhere even near the expected globe drop... AND it still rises with you altogether.

People often overlook the obvious factor that your MIND interprets the viewing of things as it thinks it should look like. I did an experiment to prove to my brother that most rooms in a house are NOT usually square as they visually appear. We were laying self-sticking tile on an older floor in his apartment. I explained you start in the center and not from the wall to get the best edge finishing and most visually even look. He didn't believe me. So, I measured the walls and he saw the room was not as square as it appeared. He was shocked to find the room was NOT as square as it looked. Trust the math and your knowledge of how vision works. Your brain will fool you if you only trust your vision.
